Old fashioned hate – Georgia tech preview

This afternoon the Dawgs face off against the enemy in downtown Atlanta in a game that will go a long way to determining Georgia’s playoff position. A win likely clinches the 5-seed and a home playoff game and keeps the Dawgs in the running for a first round bye whether we return to Atlanta next weekend or not. A loss makes the next 360+ days miserable regardless of the outcome of the season.

Let’s get to the preview.

When Georgia has the ball

The troubles of the Fech defense are well chronicled. They are giving up over 400 yards per game and are on the lower half of the ACC in every team defensive statistic.

In particular, the Georgia rushing offense against the Fech defense appears to be a big advantage for the Dawgs’ offense. I expect the Jacketasses to sell out against the run and try to force Gunner Stockton to make plays in the passing game where they are giving up 240+ yards per game plus a pass efficiency of 141.

I expect the Georgia offense to have a day later today.

When tech has the ball

There’s no getting around the fact that they have the best offense in the ACC statistically averaging over 485 yards per game and 35 points. Haynes King has been the straw that stirs the drink for their offense.

The Georgia defense in particular has been stout throughout the year against the run and has improved dramatically as the season has worn on against the pass. Staying in front of the chains for the defense is going to be important. That keeps the QB run in 3rd and manageable from being a large part of the game.

I really wish we had CJ Allen available at full strength for this one.

What will happen

I expect the Georgia offense in the absence of turnovers to control the game throughout. I expect tech to throw the kitchen sink at the Georgia offense to try to break serve.

The nerds have nothing to lose as they are heading to a meaningless bowl game rather than an ACC title game or to a CFP first round game.

Dawgs win, and I believe we cover.

Final score: Georgia 38, enemy 24

Lookin’ JACKET

Once again, I cannot take credit for this lovely bit of prose. If “impromptu tickle pile” is now part of your COFH vocabulary, this thinly-veiled venomous screed is the reason why. Last year, Derek and SlobberKnocker figured it was originally posted by SaxonDawg on the old Anti-Orange page, and FlyingPeakDawg wisely suggested that this be an annual thing, this ode to the “Hymn of the Bee”.

We Refugees are nothing if not traditionalists when it comes to Hate.

“Four Notes on a Trumpet”

You wake up in the top bunk, snug within your Star Trek bedsheets, with that feeling in the pit of your stomach. That pounding feeling, that giddy, nauseous rush that can mean only one thing. You rush to the potty and take care of business. The feeling goes away. But something about tinkling–the colors, the sounds–makes you remember: Yellow Jacket football today!
You put on your best yellow sweater and yellow knee-socks, though you call them “gold,” natch. Then, moving to the dresser, you specially polish your thick glasses, adding one final flourish–fresh tape wrapped around the bridge. Speaking of bridges, your braces are also polished to a fine sheen, new zits are popped, and you’re lookin’ GOOD! You’re lookin’ JACKET.
Heart pounding, you race up the steps from your parents’ basement. Mumsy and Pops are reading mail from the old home country in New Jersey where they hope to retire someday. You slip out the door quietly and pedal your 3-speed through the crisp autumn air, gameday flags a-flying from the handlebars. And there it is, just ahead–the MARTA station. It won’t be long now!
You climb onto a southbound train, your eyes scan the car, and–yes! There, sitting next to the chatty tranvestite–a man wearing YELLOW! You make your way over and wave your pom poms at him and giggle, and he says, “$#%^ off, %$$^&!” And now you feel it more strongly than ever–the essence of being a Tech fan. You giggle again more shrilly, dance away, then slide around safely under the seats until the stop at North Avenue, tee-heeing for all you’re worth as you elude the grasp of your tormentor and his switchblade. It’s sort of like Frodo hiding from the Black Riders, right here on MARTA!
You disembark at North Avenue, snatching quarters from a few homeless men, and take a deep breath of downtown Atlanta air–Tech air! Now you see swarms of other Jackets–two of them, three of them. It’s no wonder the stadium had to be expanded. You pause on the bridge over the Downtown Connector to indulge in a Tech tradition: spitting on cars passing underneath. It’s a massive traffic jam of red vehicles heading north, and you nail an RV with a big loogie from your morning Yoo Hoo Soda. Tee hee! Saliva, the GT calling card!
Then you’re on campus, a block from the stadium. You take in the grand pageantry that is game day. It’s the gray, smoggy sky; the deep blue of the police siren; the giggling of the frat boys enjoying an impromptu tickle pile on the sidewalk. It’s the sound of gunfire. It’s the beautiful women with their thick makeup, standing on the street corners and bantering with the passing cars. It’s the voice of Kim King, talking and talking and talking in his one-note melodic range; Wes Durham screaming about a one-yard gain. It’s the giant rubber bee, George O’Leary’s old bedroom toy, patched all over, making funny farting sounds as the air oozes out yet again. It’s Flag Boy, the aspiration of all Tech males. Tee hee!
Above all, it’s four notes on a trumpet. You hear them now, playing the hallowed music, the sacred music, the Hymn of the Bee. There it is now, and you lift your voice to join in, warm tears fogging your thick glasses. The whole stadium sings solemnly:
“When you say Bud…”
Those four notes on a trumpet, your call to Jackethood, setting your yellow heart aflutter. Deep down you know this is the year–the year you beat Duke AGAIN–you OWN Duke. The year you road-trip to a BRAND SPANKIN’-NEW STARTUP BOWL for the holidays. The year your first pubic hairs break the surface. This sacred moment cannot last. Someday, by the Great Pointed Ears of Leonard Nimoy, you will be in New Jersey. In Michigan. In North Dakota. Someday you will buy your parents a house with a bigger basemment for you to live in. But in your heart, you’ll always be a Tech Guy–a proud drop in the endless river of yellow!

Go Dawgs!

Tuesday Refugee Roundtable: Hate Week

This should be an easy one for today:

Let’s keep it centered on the NATS, and why we hate the Nerds so damned much. I have several reasons I’ve posted here before, but I can go back to 1991 and having an intolerable Chemistry teacher who wouldn’t shut the hell up about the Co-National Champions Yellow Jackets…and she was a Georgia State grad. Stuff like that just chaffed my ass, particularly for Tech fans. In all my years of encountering Tech fans, I know not one who is an actual alumni of the school who actually cares about the football team. Seriously.

While I know that’s not a requisite for being a fan, and I imagine we have several readers here who didn’t attend UGA, it’s more the privilege that the fans take from Tech being an “academic institution” and somehow making them smarter for rooting for them that gets me riled up. Like my Chem teacher. She postured as though she graduated from Tech, but did not. But wouldn’t have known that for all the talk about Tech athletes being smarter that Bulldawg athletes. Just bizarre to me.

Your thoughts? Why do you hate Tech?

The weekend that was at MBG – week 10 edition

Hahahahahaha!

I admit I was going to go full Lewis Grizzard and do this in this space if the outcome yesterday had been different.

Thankfully, it wasn’t, and I have an opportunity to take us on a tour of the message board universe. We saw at least one team eliminated from CFP contention, a lot of pain inflicted on our main rivals and a program with a delusion.

Let’s start today’s trip in Baton Rouge to check in on the Corn Dogs’ coaching search.

If Nick Saban wanted to coach in the NIL and transfer portal era, he would have stayed in Tuscaloosa until he collapsed in his office. He looks very happy to be doing media, enjoying his ability to play golf, and living the high life after a successful coaching career.

Cajuns, Nick Saban isn’t coming back to save you from your governor’s decision to choose the next LSU football coach. He’s 74 (yes, a young 74). No way does he have the ability to look a recruit (and family) in the eye and say he’ll be a coach for 4 or 5 years at this point.

For all of those fan bases who believe Saban is coming back to save them, just stop.

Let’s move on to check in on Coach Amazon Prime in Boulder.

Colorado gets absolutely smashed in Boulder by Arizona. 5 turnovers and fewer than 300 yards of offense (3 turnovers of which led to extremely short fields for touchdowns) will get you run out of the stadium. The Wildcats led 38-7 at the half and played like Ralphie running over the Buffs.

I don’t know if Deion can be a successful head coach long-term. His formula isn’t working and probably isn’t going to work to make Colorado competitive. I wonder how happy Juju Lewis is in Boulder right now.

Let’s head to Dallas to see how the week 3 national champions are faring.

The Hurricanes are down bad after their 2nd loss to an unranked ACC opponent. Carson Beck throws 2 interceptions including a backbreaking pick on the goal line in overtime. Miami’s defense gives up 365 yards passing as Kevin Jennings takes care of the ball and engineers a 2:00 drive for the tying field goal aided by unnecessary roughness penalty.

Miami probably has to win out including the ACC championship game to be in the field of 12 at this point. Does Cristobal get blown out if that doesn’t happen? Coach Oeaux in Coral Gables would be a clash of cultures.

Let’s head to Greater Opelika to say “Thanks for the memories” to Hugh Freeze.

To those who believe #FireEverybody is the answer to your football program’s problems, Auburn should be the cautionary tale. Lather, rinse, repeat, War Tiglesmen. Your job is 3rd best of the conference’s open positions by a large margin. You have to convince someone that they can be successful being squeezed between 2 of the current giants of the sport while your past advantage (cough, cough … Auburn boosters … cough, cough) doesn’t matter any more. How quickly does Cam Coleman go into the portal with plans to play in Tuscaloosa?

I wondered if this was fake news. If not, this is pretty incredible. If Hugh was playing golf every Sunday in season, that’s a bad look, and I believe these guys should have a life.

Let’s move on to the Upstate of South Carolina for another update on the Greater Anderson Cow College.

Fun fact: Yesterday’s loss to Duke was the first time in 129 years of football that Clemson has lost when scoring more than 45 points. (134-1 now) Ouch. For the IPTAY crowd that loved Dabo for doing things the right way and looked down on the rest of college football, it sucks to be you now. Georgia broke Clemson in Charlotte on the night of September 4, 2021, and smashed them in Atlanta on August 31, 2024.

Can Clemson afford to fire Swinney or encourage him to find a new employer? Do they want to jump into a football coach hiring frenzy that already has LSU, Florida, Penn State and Auburn looking?

Sorry, Clive, but I’m guessing Dabo will be on the sidelines when Clemson goes to the Bayou in 2026.

Let’s move over to East Tennessee to check in on the fan base and team playing Halloween dress-up in a CFP elimination game.

Bobby Hill and the Vols likely save Brent Venables job with a loss on Rocky Top. Tennessee’s lines of scrimmage get dominated giving up 192 yards while gaining only 63 on the ground. Joey Aguilar’s 2 picks were both bad. One took points off the board for Tennessee, and the other enabled Oklahoma to steal 3 points right before the half.

Those 2 picks eventually led to the winning margin.

We’re going to take a short stop in Jacksonville to check on the geniuses of the UGA message boards.

This team keeps finding ways to melt down the fan base. This time it was a couple of explosive plays allowed by the defense while the offense sputtered for portions of the first 3 quarters. The first TD was the result of a poor punt leading to a short field and then a blown coverage. The field goal was the result of a turnover and then another blown coverage on a short field. The 3rd quarter was generally garbage.

I would love for this team to come out and blow people out. This team isn’t that right now, guys.

Sad, pathetic and soft aren’t words I would use to describe a team that has fought in every game for 4 quarters.

Let’s wrap up today’s trip on Tobacco Road to check in on America’s darlings, the Nerds of the North Avenue Trade School.

StinkTalk is probably saying how great they are because a 4-4 team rushed the field after beating them. Alas, since their board is blocked, we won’t know. I’m here for you to find other sources of amusement.

Nerd reaction to getting a swirlie on Saturday night in Raleigh

While no one cares enough about the other nerd boards to send any #MeltdownAlert posts to MBG, this post encapsulates their team. With Clemson’s implosion, they haven’t beaten anybody with a pulse and almost lost to Wake Forest who allowed FSU to break their ACC losing streak yesterday in Tallahassee by the score of 42-7.

NC State lost to Duke by 12, Virginia Tech by 2, Notre Dame by 29 and Pitt by 19. NC State’s offense then pistol-whipped the Jacketasses’ defense to the tune of 583 yards of total offense including 243 on the ground.

I’m sure Kirby is licking his chops over what much better athletes are going to do on a fast track in MBS against their defense.

That’s what I saw this weekend. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Week 3 Fabris Pool Results: Winning the Middle 8

I’m sure most of you have heard about the importance coaches place on “winning the middle 8” minutes of games. The likelihood a team wins the game increases if they can outscore the opponent in the last 4 minutes of the first half and the first 4 minutes of the second.

What does this have to do with our Fabris Pool, you ask?*

To wit:

Your humble commish went O-fer the 3:30 slots, smack dab in the all-important middle of the Week 3 slate, stumbling out of the nooners to boot. Kirby would be most disappointed.

On (another) personal note, UGA frosh Dawgliciousette #2, took advantage of the away game to visit the Flats to hate-watch Tech and Clemson for her old man. First texts we exchanged while she was at the game:

I have raised her well, to be observant of her surroundings, and she left at halftime. Proud dad!

On to the results!

etdawgfan nails the tiebreak total to edge out Bulldawginsc for Week 3 honors
Tiledawg92 vaults into first place for the overall season thus far

Moving on to Week 4 and the off week. First chance to knock out those fall honey-dos, y’all. **

Games go up Monday, we know not the hour.

Your humble commish,

Dawglicious

*You didn’t ask

**Yeah, right

The weekend that was at Message Board Geniuses – Championship Week edition

I’m still on cloud 9 as I write this. After winning the SEC championship, everything from this point on is just gravy. I’ll get into the game in a bit, but I still have the privilege to share the misery and genius of the message board universe.

Let’s start our trip up in Charlotte where the Greater Anderson Cow College played 3D chess for the regular season.

“We have the smarts.” Yeah, right. I’m guessing this genius is making Beef & Cheddar sandwiches after getting promoted from the curly fryer at the Anderson Arby’s.

Clemson blows a big lead over SMU and then kicks a 56 yard field goal on the game’s final play to get their ticket punched as the 12 seed to the CFP. Their reward is a trip to Austin to take on a Texas team that knows it has a favorable draw to the semifinals if they can beat the Tiggers before Christmas. This seems like a terrible matchup for Clemson given how the Georgia front 7 overwhelmed the Clemson offensive line in Atlanta. The question is whether Sark can rebuild Quinn Ewers’s confidence over the next 2 weeks to have him ready to make a playoff run.

Let’s go check in on the state of mind of the Bammer Nation after they find that their dance card is sending them to (checks notes) Tampa for the Reliaquest Bowl for a Rose Bowl rematch with Michigan instead of their rightful place in the ESPN Invitational.

Bammers online everywhere are trying to gaslight the entire college football world by saying “they wuz robbed” and so Greg Byrne should cancel every high-profile OOC game for eternity. They lost 3 games in the conference to unranked opponents including an embarrassing loss to Oklahoma in Norman. The Vandy loss also hasn’t aged well.

SMU’s comeback makes it easy for the committee to make the decision take out Alabama. Once again, Finebaum should be a joy later this afternoon.

Roll Tears Roll.

Let’s head to downtown Atlanta to check on the Hamburgers after the Dawgs win the SEC and take the #2 ranking and overall seed.

Any Shorthorn making a comment about officiating and SEC favoritism just makes me laugh. To my view on the game, Texas had their chances to get total control of the game in the first half but could only scrape out a 6-3 lead at the break due to a turnover, penalties, missed field goals and Georgia pass pressure. When you really watch the game closely, Texas really only generated yards off big plays even a couple of improvising plays.

When the Dawgs went to Gunner, it was like the light came on for the offensive line. They started moving the Texas defense and the receivers seemed to decide to start catching the ball (Get well soon, Carson). The fake punt and the drive that culminated from it was beautiful … scoring a TD there would have been the only thing to make it perfect.

To me, the most valuable player of the game was the Georgia front 7. They dominated the Texas run game that had been so potent, and you can’t say enough about the 6 sacks and how those sacks completely affected the game.

To end our trip, let’s take the MARTA east and north lines to North Avenue to check in on the Birmingham Bowl bound Jacketasses of StinkTalk.

Those self-proclaimed geniuses don’t even know how the format of the expanded playoff is supposed to work. I can’t blame them … when they have no reason to understand it, we shouldn’t be surprised when some Dudd-like nerd tries to use the FSU argument to say we shouldn’t be in (note the time of the comment at 10 pm). That commenter was probably watching cricket or quidditch world championship reruns or participating in a tricycle race before a big tickle pile.

In summary, that bunch makes it really easy to hate them for the real inferiority complex dumbass little brothers they are. I hope Diego Pavia goes full Auburn on their asses in Birmingham.

It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!

What did you see on Championship Saturday? Let us know in the comments below.

The rest of the weekend that was at Message Board Geniuses – Rivalry Week edition

Will Just for Men keep paying me?

Rivalry Week had some interesting results to remind us what a great sport this is. The message boards didn’t disappoint. Let’s start our trip in Columbus to check on the mental state of the most obnoxious fan base in college sports.

The Ohio State fan base is at DEFCON 1 after a 4th straight loss to Michigan. The best team money can buy scored all of 10 points against their unranked hated rival at home and will not be in Indy for the B1G championship game as they watch Penn State to play Oregon. Of course, the pollsters don’t punish the ultimate media darling in today’s polls having them at #7. It’s going to be interesting to see what the Grapevine idiots do with them on Tuesday. If Ohio State hosts a first round home game, we’ll know this is truly rigged.

Let’s head to College Station for the battle of Texas.

First off, I saw Texas and Texas A&M have a trophy. How can you have a rivalry trophy for a game that currently is not likely to be played every year under the current SEC scheduling plan?

Let’s get to the game. Mike Elko fell prey to analytics twice on 4th and short calls. He didn’t learn anything from the South Carolina game where the middle of his offensive line showed its warts. The Aggies went for it on 4th and 1 on their first possession instead of getting an early lead with a field goal. They didn’t get it and then watched Texas march down the field for a TD, and they played from behind the rest of the night. Then, down 17-7 (Elko must have had a different 2-point card from Kirby) and with momentum after a blocked punt, he decides to go for the TD rather than kick a field goal (needed to get the game to OT). They get stuffed, and you could feel the air go out of the 12th Man.

I get the analytics, but you have to read your team. You kick both of those and have a chance to win or kick one of those and have a 1-score game with 4:30 to go. That’s my opinion, but YMMV.

Let’s head to Tallahassee again for the merciful end to the Conquered’s season.

This genius is what happens when you want to rationalize why your team sucks. I guess some FSU fans only think their team can win if their Heisman Trophy winner tends to have a problem with taking five-finger discounts at local retail establishments. I admit I missed on the Seminoles this year, but what this team has become so quickly is a train wreck you can’t look away from. 63-3 really did break the Florida State football program. Norvell convincing the Gus Bus to move to Tally feels like desperation. Don’t buy a house, Gus.

On the Handbags’ side, the Sun Belt Billy and Lagway hype train for 2025 will go into overdrive if they win some meaningless bowl game.

Let’s go up to the snowy northeast to see how Canes fans are after missing the World’s Smallest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

Miami blows a 3 TD lead to Syracuse. First, congrats to Coach Fran … he has become a DGD for his consistent love and respect for Kirby. I watched a little of this game around the Iron Bowl. Kyle McCord lit up the Miami defense and, IMHO, outplayed the likely #1 overall pick in Cam Ward. A shoutout to Jackson Meeks for another (that’s 5) 100 yard game receiving … the young man is likely to have 1,000 yards receiving after his bowl game … good for him. I’m not sure why Kirby encouraged him to leave. We could have used him.

Let’s drop in on Greater Anderson for the South Carolina state championship.

I’m sure JimmyHEYHEY is a major donor to the program. Clemson finds itself in the ACC title game with a chance to get a bye into the CFP quarterfinals if they can knock off SMU in Charlotte, but the Tiggers lose at home to the Poultry because they can’t score. The fact that Clemson is playing for a championship after being run out of Atlanta by Georgia at the beginning of the season and being physically beaten at home by the SEC’s 6th best team at the end may be a reason to revisit the entire playoff structure in 2026.

Shane Beamer probably should be SEC coach of the year based on how he kept his team fighting to the finish line. Enjoy Orlando, Gamecocks.

For a bonus Friday feature, let’s finish today’s trip to check in on the crybabies/nerds of North Avenue aka the denizens of StinkTalk. 7IAR, B!

If this happens, they may have to put all of the “Dodd-like”s at StinkTalk on suicide watch and will need lots of copium over the holidays. Buster, Norman sucks. You don’t want that job. Of course, Venables will be on the hot seat in 2025. Go take that job in Hattiesburg and be your own man.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Let’s go kick the Horns’ teeth in, Dawgs, and make this sad fan sad again.

Get a haircut why don’t you.

“I don’t think about you at all” – Georgia Tech preview

This is sort of true … we do think about them one week a year as little brother thinks about us 52 weeks a year. Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. Dan Magill called them the enemy. It’s the game I hate most to lose. This Georgia senior class has an opportunity to finish their careers undefeated against the traditional big 3 plus Clemson, Tennessee, and South Carolina. We need to be ready to start fast and remove all hope they have to pull the upset.

In honor of our content creator in perpetuity who did not care for the Jacketasses, here are a few of the greatest hits on the opponent … enjoy.

Let’s get to the preview.

When Georgia Has the Ball

As mentioned in the first look post, the Georgia offense likely will have opportunities in the passing game to create explosive play opportunities. Also, they gave up over 200 yards rushing to the offensive juggernauts of UNC and NC State. If the offensive line makes this game a dealer’s choice type of game for Mike Bobo and Carson Beck, the Dawgs should be able to control the game and get to 30+, which, as most people know, is the magic number for Georgia being practically unbeatable. I look for the Georgia tight end group to have another big night in the passing game as the match-up nightmares for Fech’s linebackers. This should enable the Georgia running game to get going as the linebackers will have to respect having the ball thrown over their head to keep the chains moving.

When Georgia Tech Has the Ball

Their best shot to pull the upset is the Miami blueprint, long drives that suck the life out of the game clock and end in points and opportunistic defense. That means the front 7 needs to play one of their best games of the season, and everyone need to play their assignments and tackle well … something that didn’t happen last Saturday. Their coaches know they have no chance against us if they get into 3rd and long with any consistency especially early in possessions. Winning first down is likely to be very important tonight to force them into situations where our superior athletes can cause havoc.

What Will Happen

Tonight is not the time for a slow start because anything can happen if this game goes to the 4th quarter undecided. I really do love the match-up of the Georgia offense against their defense. Protect the ball and make the plays that will be there. No cheap field position. No red zone field goals. Force their offense to keep up with us. Win first down and get off the field when the opportunity presents itself.

Kirby is much more focused on this game than anyone probably knows. I have a distinct feeling that practice all last week was focused on these guys and game planning for them.

Dawgs are focused and get it done. It may not be pretty at times, but superior athletes eventually win especially at home with an involved crowd.

Final Score: Georgia 38, Enemy 20

Hate, In the Key of G

It’s Hate Week and there hasn’t been an appropriate enough amount of hate for the North Avenue Trade School, so here’s this:

In the state of insanity? Hmm, to this I say:

Also, let’s not forget the wisdom of Erk here:

What’s the good word? Streaks. Kirby has lost five times to our traditional rivals since taking over in 2016, twice to Florida, once to Auburn, once to Tennessee, and once to Yech. He has a chance to make it seven in a row (would be eight, but of course we cowered and didn’t play them in COViD, per the Nerds). That would tie the series record held by Tech and achieved a long, long time ago.

How does Kirby feel about this?

He’s a former player and absolutely knows what it looks like to sleep on Tech and not step into the Paul Johnson world of PR gaffes by thinking we have a fish fry to worry about a weekend from now. But deep down, we all know the truth:

Kirby has a point to prove. As always, I’m sure he’s on the mother.

Go ‘Dawgs!

Speaking of schedules

I’m always happy when I know we are heading to Mark Richt field. A little throwback to George Pickens being George Pickens…

I know we have the GnaTs in Sanford this year, but hopefully we can keep the streak alive against an improving Yech program. We can make it seven in a row (should be 8, stupid COVID year).

Go Dawgs!
