Let all the Bulldog faithful rally behind the men who now wear the red and black with two words, two simple words which express the sentiments of the entire Bulldog Nation: Auburn Sucks.
I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).
As an add-on to JP’s MBG post this morning, I came up with a question. In the NIL era, what player do you wish we had done more to retain? That eliminates a certain QB in 2019. As an addendum to that, what player who transferred would regret his decision if subject to this?
For me, the answer is one and the same although I think the decision at the time was deeper than money.
Bear Alexander would have probably been the next Georgia DT first round selection in 2024 if he stayed and got with the program.
Fill it up. I’m planning to be there … free tickets.
🚨Soccer is coming to Sanford! 🚨@UGASoccer will host James Madison on August 20 at 6:30pm in Sanford Stadium. It will mark the program’s first-ever contest between the hedges of the historic football stadium.
Spring Kirby is much more fun to listen to than Fall Kirby. I know some of you really don’t like Pate (I have my problems with him, too), but this is a pretty good discussion across a number of topics.
There are people all over campus in Athens whose job it is to make a student’s life a little bit better when someone’s daughter or son is away from home for the first time. Thanks to all of you (same goes for the staff at Furman, too).
If there was someone on campus who was special to you or to one of your kids, give them a shout-out here. Mine was Tom Cochran … he was our fraternity advisor and my daughter loved talking to him when he would visit Arch Society meetings in retirement.
If you have an hour to take a look, it’s worth your time to learn a little about Matt and Jon Stinchcomb. I’m honored the interviewer is my son-in-law who is getting a master’s degree from UGA in a week from the New Media Institute through the Grady School. He’s the sports information coordinator at Greater Atlanta Christian.
Needless to say, I’m proud of and for Chris. He’s a Seminole who loves the Dawgs.
The one benefit of the chaos of the current state of the college football NIL market is this:
"I talked to an NFL scout last week…"
"Last year rounds 6 and 7 wiped out from NFL, this year rounds four through seven wiped out from NIL."@AndrewBrandt discusses the impact NIL has on the NFL Draft on this week's Business of Sports:9 pic.twitter.com/ssnS9suUys
The union closed shop with a rookie salary cap and scale doesn’t allow players to be eligible for their league until 3 years out of high school. The owners and player personnel people of the teams have taken advantage of the college football system as a free minor league for decades are crying because the back end of the draft has dropped off due to free market NIL.
A player with eligibility remaining with a late 3rd round or later grade can improve his draft stock and get paid for it instead of rolling the dice in the draft and betting he can make a team. He likely is able to make as much or more with less risk by returning to college for that 4th or 5th year.
NFL insiders cannot let this stand.
The law of unintended consequences is still the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Pass the Kleenex.
Maybe this will bring the NFL to the table to discuss how they can work more effectively with the power brokers of college football.
I know many of you didn’t like Scott Howard’s style, but he lasted for a long time in the long shadow of the GOAT, Larry Munson. Ray Goff famously said while head coach that it was difficult to follow a legend, but he wouldn’t want to be the man to follow Larry Munson.
Howard is still going to be involved with Georgia radio.
He’ll always be remembered for this:
Jeff Dantzler is going to replace Howard this fall. I admit I’m not sure I like it. To me, he tries too hard to be the keeper of all things Georgia history, and some of his comments in 2016 still stick with me. It did with the Senator as well:
On the positive side, I love the selection of Jon Stinchcomb for color. He’s been good on Dawgnation every Monday morning every week but especially after a game, and he loves Georgia. He has been a color guy on the Saints’ preseason games. Of course, he knows a ton about good line play on both sides.
eeditor’s note: This wasn’t mutual. Scott has always been a DGD.
Thank you to everyone for all the messages. Didn’t know that many people had my number 😳. Just to clear up any confusion, respectfully, it was not my decision to step away from the football broadcast.
Josh Pate serves up a softball to Sarkisian. I understand Pate wants access over being a real interviewer, but the follow-up questions that could come from this were many (yes, he has done that with Kirby as well).
"High school kids have agents. How do we still motivate these guys to understand the value of team?"
Listening to Sark talk about culture of team first while he parks Lamborghinis in front of the football facility for high school recruiting visits makes me laugh.
