Dammit, Bobo

I’ve heard this story before, but mainly heard about the treatment Dwyer received at Tech versus Georgia from the player hosts…but this is the first time I heard that Kirby had been his initial recruiter when he was a RB coach at Georgia, but when he left, the new recruiter for Dwyer…was Mike Bobo.

Makes me wonder how much Bobo is actually involved in recruiting at UGA, ya know? I really, really hope that Hartley is being coached up to become an OC, that way Kirby could have the complete package.

That’s just assuming, and you know what happens when you assume things, though.

Thursday Thought Provoker: Armchair OCs

Let me whet your appetite with this.

If it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right. Let me say that Heupel deserves every level of disrespect he receives, ditto Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day. I kind of agree with Swinney, I have to admire a man and his principles. Never mind what those principles might’ve been pre-NIL, when the dealing was under the table and not over, but I digress.

The rest of them, meh. Of course, there’s our beloved Bobo.

The questions for today would be this:

  1. If not Bobo as our OC, then who?
  2. If you could sit down with Bobo and have a conversation with him about one thing he needs to change with his offensive philosophy, what would it be and why?

Discuss, and behave, you scamps.

Your Friday Rage Baiting

We haven’t had a good old argument in the comments in a while, so, here’s some chum for the sharks in the water…

To sum:

Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo received a significant pay increase in February 2026, raising his annual salary to $2.2 million from roughly $1.5 million the previous year. This boost follows Georgia’s consecutive SEC championships, a CFP return, and Bobo being a finalist for the 2025 Broyles Award.

Let me throw kerosene on the fire:

To say that, I’m not doubting Oscar’s evaluation. But where were the spectacular plays on game days (he made a great one in the Sugar Bowl) and why was he not utilized more when healthy? I can recall an old spring practice reel showing the endzone fades from Beck to Young that gave hope he was going to be the jump ball/back shoulder fade solution for Beck like Wims and Holloman was to Jake Fromm. But that never materialized, to the best of my memory.

I’m just going to roll the ball out on the field, y’all crack each others heads in the scrum.

Be civil, scamps.

51.3% of the Time, It Works Every Time

Here’s an interesting infographic that should come as no surprise to anyone around here, Bobo apologist or not.

Considering how Branch could actually generate positive yardage and touchdowns out of a screen pass more than I’d say your average receiver, it’s a safe play and a good call given the results.

But those receivers don’t grow on trees, so let’s see if we can work the ball a little further downfield this year, shall we?

Of All the Awards Shows Out There…

The Broyles Award show was one of them.

I noticed it was on so I tuned in on YouTube, thirty minutes into the broadcast. Check out the viewership.

112 people were all opting to skip the melatonin and tune in to get a good night’s sleep.

Admittedly, I had nothing else to do so I watched. And watched, and watched. It went on and on was one part political rally, another part sales conference, and it ended with Holly Rowe impromptu questioning coaches around the room. Ugh.

Anyway, Mike Bobo didn’t win…that went, predictably, to Coach Bryant Haines from Indiana.

You’re welcome. That’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back again.

Number 19

I’d like to call this the Bowers Effect. Note that things drop off not with Bobo Year 1, but year 1 post Bowers.

Or maybe it’s the offensive line. I’m no football expert, so I don’t know.

What I do know is we have a stable of great tight ends, so maybe let’s use them a little more in 2026.

Everybody’s OC is Stupid

Case in point.

In case you missed it, Miami had successfully manballed Ole Piss all night, controlled the clock, and getting six yards and a cloud of dust behind their top shelf offensive line. Suddenly, Cristobal did Cristobal things: they ran a failed flea flicker and the drive stalled.

All in all it worked out for the Canes and Carson finally got his chance to shine.

Once again, Carson Beck is 2-0 as a starter in the CFP.

Weird how life works out sometimes, huh?

Screened Out

Ladies and gentlemen, the undisputed COGAT (criticized offensive guru of all time) speaks on his strategy with short runs (on like, 2nd and 23 to go) and screen passes.

It’s a set up! Some of y’all came to that conclusion already, although many of us have different interpretations of what a “set up” means.

Kirby achieved his fall goals of establishing the run and stopping the run. Our defense averaged a shade under 3 yards per carry while our ground game production was better than in 2024. So what’s the goal for next year?

So Much for a Rebuilding Season

Considering we lost one game by three points, and that many of the predictors were determine Texas as the new king of the SEC, Stockton couldn’t win games, Kirby can’t beat Alabama, Mike Bobo is a hindrance, yadda yadda…what a year it turned out to be. And the accolades are coming:

And…Bobo is one of the finalists for the Broyles Award…

And Georgia landed eleven on the All-SEC team:

And to think, we have so much youth. Here’s a breakdown of who made what level of the teams:

I’d beg to differ for Woodring and Thorson, but to be fair, Oklahoma had to use their special teams a good bit more than Georgia did from the offensive side of the ball.
