Not the Junkyard Dawgs

This made me laugh.

Honestly, my first thought after the 3rd goal was that this was the soccer version of the Prayer at Jordan-Hare. Combine this with the offense of Schitty for much of 2015, and that’s what last night felt like.

Wake me up the next time the World Cup is in the US. Until then, I may go to a UGA alumni night at ATL UTD. Give me at least 5 other sports to watch before I’ll watch soccer.

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. As little as I know about soccer that reminded me of a pod of Orca’s playing with a seal. Tossing it around to each other until finally swallowing it whole. If I were a member of that team I’d never step on a field again. I keed, it’s called a pitch before someone makes a snarky comment.

  2. It’s really disappointing because I was just starting to get into the Worlld Cup and now I’m not sure I’ll care. I liken it to the Olympics, if the US isn’t in the hunt, then it’s just not something I give a sh!t about all that much. To be fair, it’s pretty much that way with any sport other than college football, I’m probably not watching all the way through unless my team is involved. Maybe I need to start betting more to stay in tune, but then it’s also way more stressful.

  3. Much like Chuck Brown charging towards the ball, Lucy pulls it away SAD I didn’t learn my lesson in ’92.

  4. Didn’t we lose to Belgium 5-2 earlier this year. Clearly the best team won again. Honestly it was fun while we had a team in the tournament. It was a fun diversion getting me closer to CFB.

Watching reminds me of the real meaning of fan. Personally I’m fine not investing that much emotional energy into any sport.

    • That was a Friendly back in March and neither team played its true squad and the U.S. made a bunch of odd substitutions to get guys on the field. Still, Belgium was the better team, but they aren’t that much better. U.S. played terribly.

  5. In the span of 3 months, a country of 11.8 million twice put on a clinic for a country of 300 million on how to play soccer. One day Team USA will get there.

    5-2 3/28/26
    4-1 7/07/26

  6. Whoever posted that was a genius! 😀

Last night was embarrassing. At least it was a team effort. They all shit the bed (except for Tillman and his free kick magic). Pulisic was a no-show the entire tournament.

I think the expansion from 32 to 48 countries this year gave us a skewed perception of how good we are/aren’t. We beat up on lower tier teams and got our ass beat by the first truly good team we faced.

Oh well, women’s World Cup is this time next year. The ladies always make me proud.

  7. Totally embarrassing considering a country known for waffles doesn’t even have a Waffle House!
