Lord Jesus, help this person find the strength to deal with this, as it seems there’s no relenting in the foreseeable future, unless Auburn gets really, really good in a really, really short period of time.
Personally, I don’t ever instigate with a “Go Dawgs”. I’ll only say this to another Georgia fan in solidarity, but I won’t say anything to anyone otherwise. Usually, it’s Alabama fans who’ve been the most vocal, with all the “Roll Tides” and all, but I don’t hear much from Auburn fans, who’ve largely gone dormant over the past decade, it seems.
Just another reminder that Auburn sucks, and will continue to do so for eternity.
I can say, easily, I never had one. Or I might have, but I can’t remember. When the night gets longer and the buzz needs feeding, I might’ve had one. But I don’t recall aver haing one.
On the other hand, I do remember this:

I’ve posted here about my interactions with Erk Russel at the local Country Store in Statesboro, but I never met the man without a fistful of this in his hand. And he was as cordial and happy to talk to you about anything between football and life with it in his hand.
Today is yet another day where Erk isn’t in the CFBHOF, and we should still be enraged about it. Imagine Kirby Smart being ignored as a college football championship coach in the 21st century, and we’re on par with how it feels. Legend. And Georgia Southern is a great campus surrogate to Athens, for what it’s worth, in terms of partying.

I’ll give Auburn credit. It was a pitching duel all night and it played out like a game between two of the top 5 teams in the nation giving it their all. From an observation, the Dawgs looked looser and relaxed despite the close game, Auburn seemed a touch uptight. I’ll take that as a good sign for the good guys heading into the postseason play.
Remove the Big XII schools from this, and it’s not a shock that we had the best record in the SEC in the 1980s. It feels like we should’ve been lower in the 90s, but the upward trajectory starting the 2010s is refreshing, finish with 100 wins for the decade and, of course, now owning the best records in the 20’s.
What’s equally refreshing to see is where Florida and Auburn are in the 2020s, exactly where they deserve to be.
PSA, the final series of the year has a first pitch of Thursday night (tomorrow) and 8 pm. And it’ll be a biggun.
Technically tied for fourth in the SEC with Alabama, Auburn is highly regarded and could use Georgia to boost their RPI and improve their postseason standings with a series win. SEC Tournament is up next…but with Georgia projected as #3 by some media outlets and looking to host a Super Regional (fingers crossed we don’t implode), it’s just as important to the Diamond Dawgs.
Oh, and Thursday night is Senior Night and Wear Orange night on the Plains.
Serious question…given the location, the hotbed of talent they can recruit from just like their counterparts in Tuscaloosa and Athens…the years of tradition and passionate fans…
Why does Auburn suck this bad? Granted, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving team, outside of Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, but looking at these couple of stats, it’s somewhat amazing that Auburn’s been this historically bad for this long.
Does anyone know what happened? Meddling big boosters? The Rise of Alabama in the 90s and 2000s? An Aztec curse?

The mechanics of the expansion in the men’s tournament would include eight additional at-large bids. What’s known now as the First Four — eight teams playing four games in Dayton, Ohio — would expand to 12 games played by 24 teams at two sites, one of which was expected to remain in Dayton.
So not too drastic of an expansion, but it would’ve allowed for Auburn, Champions of the NIT and likely West Virginia, who won the post-season College Basketball Crown, to have participated in the NCAA Tournament. While this would’ve quieted the Barners and Daddy Pearl’s griping about not getting it, it would’ve stolen the false sense of pride that Aubie could get from winning a lesser tournament, as it’s hard to see Auburn making the Final Four givn the product on the floor.
But, as we all know, that’s not the driving force behind this. Quite frankly, it’s more of that sweet, sweet green that college sports champions so much today.
Like oil barons, we keep drilling for more and more revenue until it’s all used up and barren.

Yesterday, I posed to you all a question about who should fill out the final spots on an SEC Mount Rushmore of Coaches. Seems like many of you agreed with Spurrier and Dooley/Smart, with Smart taking a fourth spot when his career is done (fingers crossed).
So, as a Friday exercise, let’s test the inverse…who are the most overrated coaches of all time who belong on a Mount Shushmore of Coaches. For context, here’s this:

That’s a fair question, but you have to consider the coach. You also have to consider the assistant coaches on staff, considered by many some of the best brains in the business.

To Day’s credit, he won a National Championship, albeit in the expansion era that required an easy backdoor into it and he won against Notre Dame, the perennial “we don’t belong here” team of the century.
