Let all the Bulldog faithful rally behind the men who now wear the red and black with two words, two simple words which express the sentiments of the entire Bulldog Nation: Auburn Sucks.
Category Archives: Nothing Sucks like a Big Orange
Yeah, right. This in light of reports that Nico skipped practices in the regular season as well as in the prep sessions for the CFP game while having similar NIL disagreements, though much of that is conjecture…but given the Vowels performance against the Suckeyes, it wouldn’t shock me if that’s true.
Word is Nico will make 1.75 million at UCLA, a school where his own brother signed, then transferred to Arkansas in December of 2024. Additionally, seems he’ll have to deal with a new problem in his change of location:
Little side note from this week Tennessee ❌ State Tax California ✅ State Tax
When I was younger, our family took trips up to Helen, Georgia. I can remember a few things, being the foodie that I am…an Irish novelty shop that sold Alanna’s Steak Sauce (this was prior to me understanding a proper steak doesn’t require “sauce”…sue me, I was young) and a little country store on the north end of town that sold Necco Wafers.
Not sure if you’ve ever had one, but let me let you in on the experience. Imagine you took a Rolaids, flattened it, dusted it with school-grade chalkboard residue, crushed mint and cloves into it, and then packaged about fifty of the things inside of a wax paper wrapping. Although it looks like a rainbow of flavors, it tastes like you ate a handful of blandness that was invented before some brave adventurer had discovered the concept of taste. These may have been palatable prior to the development of the fifth taste of “sweet” was added to the human race’s tongue.
It was an empty experience, in other words.
Speaking of empty experiences, Mr. Nico is finding that the grass is not only not greener, but might be the chalky, bland experience you get from a “wintergreen” Necco wafer.
So, if I’m following the order of events correctly, Iamalavea participated in 14 spring practices, opted out the Friday before the spring game, the team cut ties with him on said Friday, and it gave everyone the weekend to process what just happened plus another three days until the Spring Portal opened today.
What Nico didn’t take into consideration is the broad and insane footprint that Vol Nation leaves on Twix and other socials, and the resounding resentment has been “don’t let door hit you on your way out”, to sum. Initial suitors for Nico’s services were reported to be UNC, UCLA, and Tulane (!), but both UNC and Tulane have since reported that they don’t have the desire to pay that much scratch for a one-and-done guy.
Then there’s the optics…first, a guy who will bail on a team at the worst possible time, his performance in the CFP versus a quality defense left much to be desired and wondering about the team’s commitment to support someone of Nico’s mindset, and then the added bonus that the driver of this nonsense is Nico’s dad. Apparently, he’s gone full Amazon Prime mode and is looking for someone to be the one year cash cow for his son and gives all the vibes of that one dad at the baseball games that is talking about his 12 year old getting looks from pro and college scouts when the kid is hitting below the Mendoza line but is decked out in five figure outfits and equipment.
Now, we have what is running the opposite of the Portal/NIL era…instead of positioning oneself into a space to command more money, an athlete has essentially rendered himself unmarketable. This is perhaps the first major example that will no doubt become another talking point among the thousands already leveraged that the NIL era has gotten out of hand. I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see a fresh lawsuit come out, Iamalavea vs. Bobby Hill, where a family or an athlete sues an organization of lost perceived compensation potential because, to make things worse for Tennessee, they fired the cannon shot (thank you, Cackalacky) in this scenario of severing ties with an employee (let’s face it, that’s what football players have become) when the Iamalavea camp could posture that they were negotiating and Tennessee broke the contract without cause or affording the group to counter or contractually negotiate.
Who knows, but I’m sure there’s someone out there that will make some money off of this, though I am thinking it’s more unlikely it’ll happen on a playing field, but in the courts, instead.
I never thought there’d be a day where Jimmy Sexton’s antics in negotiating for coaches would look tame and responsible in comparison, but when you haven’t heard his name in a while, you know we’ve entered the wild wild west of compensation.
I’m sure someone will pick the kid up. After all, some coach somewhere just came out of spring practice thinking “we’re royally f*cked” and will throw a hail mary to do anything to right the ship. Come to think of it, Colorado has yet to hold its spring session, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see a Coach Amazon Prime delivery of the former Volunteer quarterback land rightly in Boulder, Colorado.
If he’s lucky, they’ll be retiring #8 at Folsom Field in 2026. If he’s not, he’ll be tossing the pigskin in Lafayette for a vastly reduced fee.
Either way, if this is the domino that starts to fall that kills or reins in NIL, I’m all for it.
247Sports' @JoshPateCFB says Nico Iamaleava & others threatened to opt out of last season's CFB playoffs unless they were paid more NIL money: 😳

So am I to understand that NIL deals may need to include post-season incentives if the season extends past 12 games? What if the game goes to overtime? Do they get time and a half pay at the conclusion or do they opt out of overtime?
While I can understand that someone with NFL first round potential wants to opt out of the Pfizer Ozempic Weight Loss Bowl in Montgomery to avoid injury, but threatening a boycott of post-season play is another thing altogether. The playoff expansion and player compensation era wasn’t supposed to compromise the integrity of the sport, but here we are.
Makes you wonder if the performance in the playoff game in Columbus wasn’t impacted by this nonsense, no?
Nothing rhymes with orange, but I have to believe there are worse things in the world than finding things that rhyme with green. Or greed. The past 24 hours has been filled with so much off the field drama that three speeding tickets in Athens wouldn’t catch the attention of the college football world right now. What’s better is how it might’ve been discovered.

The most overhyped quarterback in the SEC is likely headed west, I’m assuming to USC or another California school or maybe even SMU.
I’m thinking Kirby’s belief of finding guys who love the game and love Georgia is the most appropriate chess move in roster management in 2025. There’s no QB stat for heart and integrity, but it’s starting to feel like there should be.
+++++
Well…(update)
Breaking: Tennessee is moving on from starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Tennessee coach Josh Heupel informed the team of the decision at a team meeting. Iamaleava missed meetings and practice on Friday, which was the driver of this decision, sources told @PeteThamel. pic.twitter.com/onxbkJKNJV
The Everything SchoolTM is truly something amazing to behold. They win a national championship in baseball, get pantsed by Georgia and Ohio State in football, and can’t get into a Final Four unless it involves family love triangles but especially not basketball. So what do you do when you’re the greatest quarterback to play the game with the greatest offensive mind as a head coach? Especially after a less than stellar year?
Pretty sure this is the very thing Kirby was recently ranting about. With the possibility that unlimited NIL deals may come to an end, players are taking whatever chance they can get to secure the bag for one more season, like Nico here.
The Nico negotiation news has gone public, but I think college football fans would be STUNNED by the number of players agreeing to new deals in portal one & then asking for new deals by portal two. We don’t even have one year deals in CFB now, we have monthly deals. Wild times.
Not that I agree with Travis on a number of things, but the lunacy of college NIL deals makes Jimmy Sexton look like a saint by comparison. I’d say something needs to be done, but getting in a Time Machine and undoing this isn’t an option, and the experience of the past seasons has set a precedent that’s going to be a challenge to undo.
Actually, when it comes to Vol Nation, they’re fools 365, 24/7. But, turns out that the loudest and most annoying fanbase on Twix outside of the Suckeyes just got Manti Teo’d.
It’s actually amusing not because it’s Tennessee, but because they’re doing something you rarely see – eating humble pie.
Ah, April Fools Day. And it seems this isn’t even a joke, except for the running joke that is the Bobby Hillbilly Nation.
Speaking of imposters, there’s only one fitting tribute to VolX, consider this your Musical Palate Cleanser for today:
Sure we’ve got issues with reckless driving in Athens. We could do better in basketball. As our Hillbilly competitors like to point out, we are singularly good at football (still over 3000 days since they sniffed a chance to beat the Dawgs in football) while Tennessee has arrived at being the “everything school”.
In his suit, Pruitt claims that he learned after he was fired “that one or more individuals in the UT Athletics Department or boosters had systematically engaged in making payments to players at a time when NCAA rules did not allow such payments. It is believed persons within the UT Athletics Department solicited and received money from high profile businessmen and alumni to fund the clandestine payments to the players. Jeremy was unaware of this activity during his tenure at UT. It is believed UT intentionally hid the scheme from Jeremy based on Jeremy’s willingness to report violations — like he did to [then-athletic director Phillip Fulmer] within his first week of coaching at UT.”
Pruitt is looking for lost wages in the ballpark of $100 million. The fact that Fat Phil bolted in the wake of things suggests that what Pruitt is spitting are facts, not just the rantings of a sacrificial lamb.
Here’s the kicker, and I have to say he has a point:
Pruitt’s suit also says that “the NCAA punished Pruitt for something that is no longer illegal,” referring to the ability for players to now make money off their own image rights. “At the time of the hearing and punishment, the NCAA knew that the rules it was purporting to enforce were effectively made invalid by ruling of the United States Supreme Court. Jeremy Pruitt may be the last coach in America to be punished for impermissible player benefits.
He wasn’t first, but he could be the last. Poetic.

Is this the meteor we’ve been hoping and praying for? Couldn’t happen to a more deserving collection of assholes if I have to say so myself.
If you follow social media at all, you are well aware that the most insufferable pack of assholes on socials are Tennessee fans. Their recent success in anything but football has lead the Bobby Hillbillies to stake claim over other fan bases something that I’ve never heard of in my life:
Everything School
I had a delightful exchange with one such fan yesterday:
Apparently Tennessee has won a few SEC Cups in recent years, but you see my point. They’ve been embarrassed on a national stage in football more times than I can count, usually at the hands of Kirby Smart. Their biggest claim to fame lately has been baseball, where they are admittedly good, though their stadium’s dimensions are laughably little league whenever they boast about their home run totals.
When Tennessee fans brag about their home run numbers, know that this is a long fly out at Foley Field. https://t.co/OjrGAHP7eV

It’s good back-patting if you can get it though. Still, I don’t recall Georgia fans flocking to socials to celebrate an Equestrian National Championship and declaring themselves to be the kings of everything. Fact is, most folks don’t care. It’s nice, but not something that someone who watched their team get taken behind the Columbus woodshed and beaten soundly would brag about.
Then again, we aren’t Tennessee folks, and that’s a good thing.
There is much to crow about in Athens. We have a hot men’s basketball program, Tennis is doing great, softball has a solid squad, gymnastics are starting to return to form, and our baseball team is making a resurgence into relevancy the past two years.
And Kirby Smart is still our football coach.
Enjoy another coffee table book on your teams of horseshoes and hand grenades, Vowels. It might be a shorter story than you know.
I spent Friday night and Saturday at Disney World with the family, so I only checked in on the games when I had a chance. I think we can say the 1st round games delivered in proving college football is different from the NFL and March Madness. Talent matters, and Bobby Hill is overrated.
Let’s start our trip in South Bend where Marcus Freeman’s defense destroyed Indiana’s hope of a Hoosier state title.
Imagine not winning a game against a team currently ranked in the top 25 and being splattered by the 1 you did play. Indiana, you were a cute story throughout the year, but you should have been playing in a New Year’s 6 bowl or having a nice postseason celebration of your season in a sunny locale. Instead, you are home for the holidays with the most empty calorie 11-2 record we’ve seen since Hawaii got scattered, smothered, covered and chunked in the 2008 Sugar Bowl.
On the Notre Dame side, your All-American tailback gained 108 yards and you had almost 200 yards on the ground … good for you. 98 of those came on one play. Let me just put it this way. You aren’t going to overwhelm the Georgia line of scrimmage.
Let’s move over to State College for the Death Penalty Bowl to check in on the Ponies.
I said last week that SMU was this year’s TCU except TCU won a playoff game. This game was the classic “the moment was too big and they pissed down their leg” Coach 30 moment. Penn State had 74 yards of offense and a 14-0 lead due to 2 pick 6s. At that moment, the game was out of reach.
The big question coming out of the first 2 games is whether either of these 2 schools were worthy of an at-large bid. I think it’s safe to say the answer is no.
Let’s move on to Austin for what would turn out to be the game of the weekend.
A really bad 2nd quarter dooms Dabo and the Tiggers. Clemson cuts the lead to 7 and then gives up a long TD run to put the game away. To the geniuses on TigerNet, who are you going to hire to take Dabo’s place? Clemson is still the team in the ACC best constructed to play deep into January. Is Dabo the best in-game coach? No way. Has he built a program and a culture that can stand the test of time? I think so. The problem is he doesn’t have a pair of championship-quality coordinators to lean on for game planning and recruiting.
I did find this troll to be humorous.
Let’s end the trip segment of the weekend in Columbus. Damn, why didn’t the meteor show up?
Tennessee social media and message boards could be the most toxic in the world of the CFB internet. I admit I got this one wrong … bad wrong. Tennessee got boat raced. Jeremiah Smith is a man. Nico is still way overrated. When you get outcoached by the Just for Men spokescoach, you pretty much suck.
What’s the excuse this time, Vols? Face it. Your coach runs up big numbers against inferior competition, finds magic for a game every other year (Bama in Kneeland), and looks lousy against teams that are superior.
There’s going to be a winter of discontent in Knoxville.
What does all of this mean for Georgia? While ND doesn’t scare me, they could be a tough out if we don’t have a good game plan for Gunner or our execution sucks … not a time for a slow start. Penn State feasted on a QB not ready for prime time. Our offensive line will have to play their asses off in a game with them. Texas and Ohio State are both troublesome. Hopefully, Gunner has settled in by the time we possibly get to one of them.
For a bonus feature, here are some tidbits from other boards over the weekend.
Talk about toxic, bunch of Yankee idiots.Ole Miss fans dunk on the Laner.24-3, anyone?
