Nico Iamagunnaleaveya For More Money

The Everything SchoolTM is truly something amazing to behold. They win a national championship in baseball, get pantsed by Georgia and Ohio State in football, and can’t get into a Final Four unless it involves family love triangles but especially not basketball. So what do you do when you’re the greatest quarterback to play the game with the greatest offensive mind as a head coach? Especially after a less than stellar year?

You renegotiate.

Pretty sure this is the very thing Kirby was recently ranting about. With the possibility that unlimited NIL deals may come to an end, players are taking whatever chance they can get to secure the bag for one more season, like Nico here.

Not that I agree with Travis on a number of things, but the lunacy of college NIL deals makes Jimmy Sexton look like a saint by comparison. I’d say something needs to be done, but getting in a Time Machine and undoing this isn’t an option, and the experience of the past seasons has set a precedent that’s going to be a challenge to undo.

Wild times, indeed.

  1. No doubt Nico was promised everything under the sun to get that Cali kid to go Knoxville. He’s there for the money, not the hillbilly experience.

    • Not sure if this qualifies, unless this dude is gonna’ head to some far away d-1 or d-2 football field for more riches, his on field game shouldn’t scare a DC worth their salt for anytime longer than 1 quarter of play…GO DAWGS!!

  2. Is it time for someone at the highest level of the game to call these guys’ bluffs? I’m guessing if someone attempted to pull this on Kirby instead of Bobby Hill, he would say, “How quickly can you sign into your portal account?”

I’m sure no one has contacted Nico’s representatives with offers.

NIL was going to work as long as there was reasonable restriction on transferring (one time free transfer and a graduate transfer). When the NCAA started granting exemptions on the 1-time transfer, the lawsuit was soon to follow.

    • This demonstrates the collective action problem we have here – no coach, AD, School President, etc. wants to be the one who takes a hard line, has their team subsequently suck, and gets shitcanned as a result…. It is why there has been a straight race to the bottom down the slippery slope to now basically fully, laisse faire professionalism, since the door was first wedged open…. Many predicted this!

  3. Did I like it when coaches were getting huge multi-year guaranteed contracts with outrageous buyout clauses, new facilities costing 10s of millions and kids getting suspended over autographs while others were clearly getting hidden payments? So I either choose to tolerate this situation or lose interest altogether. The lords of college sports may go down in history as the absolutely worst example of greed and its unintended consequences. It’s a damn shame they’ll never be held accountable for the destruction they’ve caused.

    • There is no limit to what some schools will do in search of money they can piss away with bad decisions.

The greed of those in charge of CFB is only exceeded by their arrogance.

  4. Why not wave bye bye to this jackass? He’s way closer to being Anthony Richardson than he is Peyton Manning.

    • My guess is that Nico knows what the boosters, the ad and huepel know:

They’re losing a shit ton of games if they don’t cater to the prima donna.

This outcome was inevitable. I tried to warn everyone. Most people wanted to equate NLI with a computer science major who developed an app.

That was a clumsy comparison to say the least.

I predict one fine Fall that someone will hold out on a game week in season. It may have already happened and we just never heard about it because terms were agreed to.

Most of y’all happily, if not with full understanding of the natural and probable consequences, signed up for this shit.

      • It’s straight up blackmail. He knows without him their season hopes for success are over. Rocky Flop bought his services. Recruiting him with cash it’s no surprise you reap what you sow.

That said Nico’s leverage beyond wrecking their season is very limited. This late maybe only USCw might be willing to throw more cash his way. Leaving UT now would be a bad business decision for Nico and his management team.

      • Who the fuck is y’all, how did anyone sign up for it happily or otherwise, how are you in position to know any of that, and how do you stand outside of it? You were making good sense until you dropped that turd.

The answer of course is, nobody signed up for anything. College football has gone insane and most of us are here due to inertia as much as anything else. I imagine most of us staring into the future not liking what we see, holding on until we just can’t stand anymore, and hoping for a miracle we know almost certainly ain’t coming.

        • About 94% of the folks at the old place, including the host, thought I was fos when I warned that this would be coming once the NCAA lost the amateurism battle and NLI became the rule. You may or may not have been in the 6% with me.

Fyi: “Y’all” is a Southern expression directed at two or more people.

          • The problem is the unlimited ability to transfer and maintain eligibility. NIL is not the problem. It has gotten student-athletes more than they received in the past.

College athletes have never been held to the same standard for acceptance into college. I have no problem with that decision.

          • Well thanks for the lesson on Southern speech but nothing about you makes me take you seriously where that’s concerned. As for the rest of it, bullshit. The “94%” stat was particularly funny. 99% of statistics are made up on the fly. See what I did there?

Nobody here signed up for a a thing and you did t tell anybody anything they didn’t already see coming once this ball got rolling.

          • I never missed Trigger Trey all that much personally. I thought CMR’s don’t let the door hit ya in the ass was a good policy.

And if everyone is paid the same, then the portal is no problem in a pay for play world.

If its a free market, then let them play it like the coaches do.

          • 94% that’s complete BS. Lots of comments were against what’s happening now.

Now you and our former host disagreed maybe 94% of the time. That’s a number that’s possibly correct.

  5. Burn it down. Burn it all down….

CKS (and everyone else) should just put up a sign that says:

Football tryouts begin July 7th, 2025. All UGA students in good academic standing are eligible. Cut it down to 125 by the first of August and get ready to play some games.

Get it back to what its supposed to be. Georgia students competing in sports against students from other universities and colleges.

The UGA campus ought not host or sponsor a professional football team.

If Nico thinks he’s so valuable, he should go find a pro league somewhere willing to pay him.

    • While I don’t like what the game is becoming, the debate on pay players and eligiblity is nearly as old as the game.

    • I trust that there will be more. No one out there is going to grind as hard and effectively as Kirby will.

The fact that others have fucked the sport up won’t steal my joy when we do win some more either.

  6. If he leaves I just hope that all of his academic credits transfer so he can graduate with his degree on time .

  7. This is the results of the NCAA kicking the can down the road for too long to stop anything now. The NFL is just worried that their free minor league teams are going to be lost.

  8. Players(and their agents) are trying to get all they can before the settlement kicks in later this year. I’m sure we’ll see a good bit of this kind of thing this spring.

  9. I would rather endure some pain in the short run than let this jackass that thinks he’s a thoroughbred drag me around by the Johnson. I’d tell him to go see where he could get a better deal. In the long run they would be better off.

  10. I hope he bails & nothing sucks like a Big Orange.
Having said that, if he has a contract, make him honor it.

  11. There should be a legal clause that if he gets the money he’s demanding, that he produce on the field at a certain, very high level..
This crap has to work both ways.
I’d like to buy him for what he’s worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth.

    • Plenty of pro contracts have performance incentives. And then ownership games it so the player doesn’t hit them. He’s out there trying to get 5,000 yards and the bonus agreed vs. the sisters of the poor in the 4th quarter and they pull him to save $.

      The bullshit goes both ways.

  12. Does anyone else not recall the Senator and I fighting over what I said would be shit storm if NLI came on line and almost everyone there took his side?

I downright annoyed the fuck out of him over it and as I recall the vast majority were on the host’s side and thought I was nuts to think things like hold outs would be a result of the end of amateurism.

    • I do recall because in addition to vehemently agreeing with you most of the time, I also felt the negativity like you. Something to the effect of, “If you don’t want to pay the players then just say so.” or what’s wrong with letting players sign autographs and such. NIL won’t lead to full unionization and an NFL Lite model. There is too much tradition is College Sports.

      • And I had no problem paying them IF all scholly athletes in a conference were paid the same. It wasn’t about forced poverty or exploitation but trying to make sure that the basic concept of college sports remained intact.

  13. All y’all need to sit down and shut up. As usual, Derek is right and y’all are wrong. He is typing, so he is correct. Case closed. The 94% statement is correct, he said it. Y’all need to learn your place. It’s behind Derek. If he’s honest, he’ll tell y’all that’s where he thinks you belong.

    • Sarcasm makes everything go away.

I’ll go into the archives if I need to.

      Reality sucks.

If your reality is: the senator and his readership panicked over NLI and supported the ncaa in maintaining the amateurism model then say it. Won’t go well for you.

  14. Go into the archives.😆. Nobody gives a shit you freaking Karen. The fact remains that nobody here “signed up” for anything and you didn’t lead some brave stand against the current state of college football as you seem to want credit for having done. The one thing you’ve said that is dead nuts correct is the fact that you annoyed the fuck out of the Senator and lots of other people besides. Holy shit I wish you had gotten lost wherever Corch Irvin Meyers did.

    • All Ive said is that I typed words that turned out right and a bunch of folks types words that turned out to be wrong on nli. Sorry your ego is too fragile to function maturely in that or any other reality.

  15. Getting lectured on maturity by you is like getting lectured on cleanliness by a pig. You have less self awareness than anybody I’ve ever encountered.

    • I am the worst human being ever.

But I’ll always have that I was right on NLI.

      • I doubt anyone but you gives a fuck you were right one time in your miserable life. Go brag to mommy.

        • I don’t gaf about caring as I’m quite certain that the same unfortunate instincts that led to nearly everyone else to be wrong on nli won’t thereby be extinguished. I know no one cares that they were wrong, about anything, ever. Accountability is for the other guy, always. But they should be told they were wrong almost as often as they arrogantly said they’d turn out to be right in the end in the first place. That is done in the hopes that maybe they will hesitate in the future and not recklessly and needlessly fuck something up that’s important to me, again.

The fact that reading about it is so gd unpleasant for you ever so sensitive ladies is an additional benefit, to me.

  16. Hardly. Just a bitchy dude on the internet with no self awareness.
