The weekend that was at MBG – week 9 edition

Did somebody get the license plate on that dump truck that just ran over us?

Jonny Boy gets his introduction to the Cocktail Party and finds out really quickly that beating Georgia isn’t going to come easily. I knew we were going to beat their asses when our guys came out in full pads for pre-game warm-ups while the Gators weren’t. More to come later.

The message boards were lighting up as #FireEverybody was trending across the internet. Today’s trip will have a first, but you’re going to have to keep reading.

Let’s start today trip in Norman where a football program appears to be drying up like the Dust Bowl.

Oklahoma is becoming Nebraska before our eyes. They had (checks the stats again) 118 yards of total offense and 10 points at home (7 of those on a pick 6) through 3 quarters against the Poultry. The Sooners were +3 in turnover margin and lost by 17. Ouch.

OTOH, the previously vaunted Oklahoma defense gave up touchdown drives of 55, 75, 82, 75, 75, and 80 yards. 521 yards of total offense including 212 on the ground. Yikes.

The schedule doesn’t ease up for the Sooners in the final stretch, so Venables may now be on the seat Beamer was occupying much of the season. This quote from Venables after the game says it all, “We’re not built to overcome some of the ineptness as a football team that we displayed out there tonight.” That ain’t going to play well across the state and that proud fan base.

Let’s move on to the next week’s locale to check in on the denizens of the Loveliest Cesspool on the Plains.

Week 2 of “How in the hell did we lose to this bunch?” Ole Miss takes over the game in the 2nd half to blow Auburn out in Oxford, and Alex Golesh has pissed away all of the positive momentum his program gained just 2 weeks ago. Auburn had 63 yards rushing in 27 attempts. Ole Miss took away the QB run.

On the Ole Miss side, the Rebels shredded the Auburn defense with 31 points in the 2nd half and did it without Kewan Lacy. Trinidad Chambliss was efficient passing and used his legs to make up for Lacy’s loss.

Next weekend up there is going to be a war.

Let’s head up to Tobacco Road to check on the latest #1 who survives the house of horrors known as Kenan Stadium.

Given Miami’s defense surrendered 35 points to 4-4 North Carolina, I don’t trust that defense to hold up over multiple weeks of playing quality competition especially when they don’t have ACC officiating sitting behind them. We’ll find out on Saturday night when the Hurricanes come calling in South Bend for their 1 game regular season.

Miami can outscore anyone, but what happens that one night the offense is a little off or they run into a defense that has NFL talent all over it?

Let’s head to the Coliseum where the Boy Wonder pulls off his biggest win since going to LA. Suckeyes aren’t pleased, and their playoff hopes may be hanging by a thread. Who am I kidding? The Big 10 committee members will make sure they are in the bracket.

I’m not one to defend the Just for Men spokescoach, but is my memory failing me or didn’t Day win a title 2 years ago after losing to Michigan and missing the B1GCG? Genius indeed.

Ohio State prides itself on going on the road and sucking the soul out of the team they are facing. The Buckeyes kick 4 field goals while generating over 460 yards of total offense when they arguably have the best single player in the sport on their team. Jeremiah Smith had 83 yards receiving on 10 catches … not good. USC uses 2 super explosive pass plays (go watch the Baby Brock highlight if you haven’t already) to set up 2 TDs and a long punt return combined with a personal foul penalty to set up a short field TD.

Look at this stat sheet without the score and come to your own conclusion as to how this game would play out.

Let’s finish today’s trip in the ATL to check in on the psyche of the Florida fan base after 6 in a row.

The Dawgs use Florida miscues, a suffocating defense and a hard-nosed running game to choke out the Gators after running out to a 24-0 lead and sending the Handbags to the MBS exits at halftime and throughout the 3rd quarter. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we didn’t win the 2nd half style points some would like to have. We didn’t look dominant on offense as I thought we would. But …

If that defense plays the rest of the season like it did Saturday afternoon, I wouldn’t put anything past the Dawgs lifting a trophy in January. Chris Cole was everywhere again. Raylen Wilson and Justin Williams were studs. The Georgia secondary mostly neutralized the most dangerous pieces of the Gator passing game.

Now for today’s first … a comment from a GTP Refugee from the first look post this week.

Any comment, Skeptic?

4 sacks. 11 tackles for loss. 54 yards rushing on 28 attempts for a scintillating 1.9 yards per attempt. 2 fumbles including the backbreaking Chris Cole scoop and score.

Jadan Baugh – 17 carries for 38 yards.

The front 7 dominated the game. Elijah Griffin may have become the game wrecker in the middle we’ve been waiting for. Gabe Harris was in the backfield causing havoc all afternoon.

I think we have put the 90s in the rear view mirror at this point.

G.A.T.A.

What did you see this weekend? Let us know in the comments.

  1. MBG has become something I look forward to now every Monday. Usually as long as we’re not in it. Skeptic Dawg proves me wrong. We can have a great win and enjoy the idiots on our side or even a troll. Six in a row is not enough, never enough to end their suffering. Screw them and the mule they rode in on.

Ryan Day continues to remind everyone that he alone can do the least with the most. That stat line should make every tOSU fan sick. I’m here to enjoy every minute of their misery.

Life down on the Cesspool isn’t so wonderful now . Another wasted season. Tee up the coaching search before FSU gets your guy.

  2. I too enjoy MGB & thanks for the work. As dominate as we were over Fla, Kirby reminds us that humility is only a week away. Which we know all to well. How in the hell did we lose to that Auburn team.

  3. Oh, the D-line most certainly proved me wrong! The entire D looked fast and nasty on Saturday. What we witnessed from our defense was a thing of beauty. Beating Florida is always a great day. Thank being said, I think it is more than fair to question our offense given their performance on Saturday.

  4. Dwelling in the past ain’t a good option on lifes pathway, but, a blemish is just that…How in the Fuck did UGA football have an “L” shoved right up our collective asses two weeks ago, was it staff, players, analysts, fan base, weather, travel time, WTF was it, understanding CKS is “on the mutha”, I git every week is a different concept for game planning…the ass wipes in charge of seeding for the cfp will say blah, blah, blah about losses, whutever…that is a serious head scratcher, knowing the prettiest little cesspool on the plains will claim a portion of a national title should UGA football wind up raising the trophy in Vegas…GO DAWGS!!
