Who’s Missing?

What an interesting graphic to chew on here.

Funny, I heard there was an “everything school” out there somewhere.

Meanwhile, in a trailer park near you, someone’s managing to connect their final two dendrites together to post something like this:

They’re insufferable, aren’t they?

A New WLOCP

Sounds like they’ve got a new rivalry that they’re bringing to Jacksonville: the Worlds Loudest Obnoxious Cocks Party.

The only group that has been on par with the Gators and the Vowels with offseason, undeserved bellowing of pride has been the Hurricanes (well, maybe the Suckeyes, but you get my point). Between the Lagway Promise and the Hurricanes “winning the recruiting wars”, these two groups are absolutely made for one another.

And to think, there are kids out there driving who’ve never known a time when either program’s football team was relevant on the national stage.

Well, At Least You Can Say You Tried

So much for a fifth year of eligibility.

In his lawsuit, Zeigler alleged the NCAA’s rule that permits four seasons of eligibility within a five-year eligibility window “is an unlawful restraint of trade under federal and state antitrust laws.” Nonetheless, the federal judge disagreed.

Litson PLLC and Garza Law Firm represented Zeigler in the lawsuit. Based on analysis from Spyre Sports Group, an NIL collective that Tennessee works with, Zeigler’s legal team projected a fifth season for the two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year to be worth between $2 million and $4 million.

He played a full four years, but when it comes to playing for an everything school, you should expect to get everything you ask for right? Just ask Grant Frerking.

The TLDR version of this latest chapter in Appalachian Lore takes Grant, who was a Volunteer football player through 2022, was touting a million dollar company as a teenager, was double dipping by working for On3 and Tennessee as an NIL coordinator, which is a conflict of interest, at a minimum. Additionally, he was contracting pine straw services through his girlfriend, who received Venmo payments but then didn’t actually deliver any pine straw…ever.

Empty promises and recruiting shenanigans. Good ‘ole Rocky Top, amirite?

Monday Musings: Kirby’s Most Critical Offseason?

Between the Bobo contingencies and the non-stop downgrading and questioning that Kirby has lost the magic touch, this is trending towards being a hyper critical offseason for Smart and Company. It’s coming from our fanbase and from socials, but now it’s out there in print.

While depth might have been depleted in the portal/NIL era, Kirby still has racked up class after class of top talent, but the conventional wisdom, despite injuries that hampered a team for much of 2024, is that Kirby, a back-to-back national championship coach who brought the Saban way to Athens, has much to prove.

This, while everyone is warming to Florida being the surprise playoff team for 2025.

Since going 1-2 against the three teams mentioned above in 2016, Smart is 23-2 (92%) against the Orange teams (make it 25-2 if you want to lump Texas in there with them) in the conference.

So why the doubt and hyper-love for a really questionable Florida team?

Texas lost pretty much their entire offensive line, key receivers, and defensive talent from 2024, yet many are lauding the Longhorns as next year’s championship lock.

Ditto Auburn, who imploded last season and never looked like the team that they were supposed to be on paper.

Is it just the quarterback? These teams have holes and gaps, too, but coaches who haven’t strung together a fully competent season are getting props while Kirby is getting constantly downgraded.

Discuss.

Everything School, Now…Nothing

I’ve become a bit of a Vandy fan during the baseball season.

Watching the continued demise of Tennessee anything is as enjoyable as watching Georgia beat the brakes off their hype train each year in football.

Somewhere, Lulu is crying. Here in McDonough, I’m smiling.

FTMFs.

High Plains Drifter

All of us around these parts know one thing, and one thing only, rings true among the GTPR faithful: Auburn Sucks.

While it was with a devious delight to watch Auburn struggle last year, and the year before, and the year before that…well, you know what I mean, it’s even more of a delight to see that their blue blood donors have gotten them exactly the man they wanted at the helm of the football program on the Plains. Seems as though he can’t recall that Kirby Smart was competing for a National Championship in his second year at Georgia, and now, Freeze can’t seem to recall that Auburn hasn’t exactly been lacking in talent, either.

“We’ve got to go to a bowl game?” To the west, Ole Miss is using the portal to create instant relevancy, to the South, Florida State did it (once), and your main rival is beating themselves in the head because they want to get back to winning National Championships, and your criteria for success is “getting to a bowl game”. It’s not like Auburn lacked talent everywhere…they had all the tools to be moderately good but couldn’t quit turning the ball over in 2024 to get out of their own way.

My guess is the powers that be will give Freeze another year on the Plains, then they’ll be looking for the next successor that will lead the Tigers back to glory. Some are rumoring that it’ll be DJ Durkin, but this is Auburn we’re talking about, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they went with another candidate.

Anywhere that Bruce Pearl can find work, you have to believe it’s always a possibility.

This Aggression Will Not Stand, Man

Strange times call for strange solutions. In the land where the Gumps gnash teeth and loathe what the college football landscape has wrought, losing the greatest head coach of all time in Nick Saban, they want the aggressors to be disbarred from the SEC.

Despite the Tennessee Legislature’s preemptive attempt to ensure the Vowels could hand out as many McDonald’s bags of cash as they wanted, Bobby Hill wasn’t able to keep Nico Wafers in Knoxville, so I’m not sure what the author is afraid of when it comes to NIL in Knoxville. The greater point that the author posits is that if the House Settlement finally settles, Tennessee would remain the lone state that could have unregulated NIL, and that wouldn’t be fair.

In truth, allowing Vanderbilt to be the best program in the SEC would be the more interesting outcome of that, but this is a Gump, so they are likely already forgetting that the Commodores were a surprisingly more lethal team against the Tide last year. But I digress.

Anyway, it’s an interesting take for a fanbase that had no problem stacking five stars on top of five stars throughout Saban’s run in Tuscaloosa, which I’m sure involves absolutely zero financial benefit to any Crimson Tide player, ever. Right?

No worries, Roll Tide Willie. Saban’s on a Commission now, so he’s got leverage of the federal government so I’m sure Tuscaloosa will be fine.

In the end, maybe something really interesting will happen, like Tennessee seceding from the United States and battling it out, all Alamo style, for the right to have a credible football team again.

I don’t know. “Remember the Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge” just doesn’t quite have that historic ring to it, does it?
