As we enter the bye week before the stretch run, here’s the SEC slate for later today:
The SEC storylines are pretty good this weekend:
Can Auburn build on an improbable upset in Athens last weekend at 11 am when the Kiffin Kancer and the Corn Dogs roll into the Loveliest Cesspool on the Plains? My bet is no.
The Poultry are a favorite at home against a Tennessee team knocking on the top 10 door. Will Tennessee fall to the enormous game letdown we’ve see elsewhere this season? Defense travels.
How quickly will the Bammer message boards meltdown if Texas 8&4 makes it a game?
Is Brent Venables living on borrowed time if the Sooners lose in StarkVegas?
In the one ranked matchup this week, could Sark be coaching for his job in Austin on Saturday night?
Is Kentucky a contender or pretender? I think pretender, but they win again this weekend.
Elsewhere:
Houston and Utah on Big 12 After Dark could be compelling. Right now, the Big 12 could be a 3 bid league if things break right.
I have USC on upset alert at Wisconsin. The Men of Troy are a 3 point favorite going into Madison.
Snoozer of the week … Boston College at the North Avenue Trade School at 3:30 on the ACC Network. You can throw on some red and get tickets for as low as $24 to go root against the nerds at Richt-Smart Field at Vince Dooley Stadium.
Pretty full slate of games today, and a lot of good ranked matchups to watch, too. Let’s start with the SEC schedule.
Florida at Texas to start the day, but one I’d anticipate should go Texass’s way if Agent Muschamp’s way. Florida has nearly no defense to show for anything and word has it Aaron Philo-Dough is on the injured list, so the Gayturds will have to turn to Tramell Jones.
Mississippi State and LSU should be a good one, but it’s the same scenario as above. Kamario Taylor might play, albeit not at 100%, which could spell trouble for the Bizzaro Dogs in Baton Rouge. If the Auburn game gets out of hand and Gunner’s on the bench by the third quarter, you can flip channels to see if there will righteous retribution for last week’s “stolen game” as Alabama hopes to break there one loss streak against the Hillbillies.
Kentucky at Oklahoma should be an interesting one. Oklahoma got away with one last week and has a full head of steam, but Will Stein has become the darling of the SEC and has Big Blue Nation believing in something other than Basketball again. Can an average SEC team that’s benefitted greatly from turnovers keep up the luck against Oklahoma? John Mateer, enter stage left…and leave the ball back on the ground.

How I’m watching, or what I’m watching, if I can find the time and attention today:
Early Games:
Probably toggling between the B1G game of the year between Ohio State and Indiana, hoping for a Buckeye win, then hate watching Florida and Texas. I suspect the LSU game won’t be much of a contest without Kamari Taylor. But you might be able to see Jaden Rashada, so that could be the most interesting thing of that game.
Midday:
Definitely Auburn at Georgia and the Gumps v Hillbillies, but I have a hunch that Mizzou v Ole Miss is where the money’s at for a good game. Mizzou can run the ball and Florida ran all over Ole Miss, but Ole Miss can ball and will test Mizzou’s defense. This could be Drinkwitz’s high water mark on the season and I’m interested to see if they can capitalize. Also interesting because I don’t think I’ve seen Mizzou on the road once this year, but I don’t pay much attention to them.
Night Games:
FSU at Miami, only because it’s laughable that it’s come down to Norvell forever because FSU doesn’t have the dough to do anything about it. I’ll likely tune in to Kentucky and Oklahoma more than Notre Dame at BYU, and I personally hope a lot of people opt to go to the movies and not watch and drive the ratings down, if for anything else to help the CFP committee realize that more games between teams who don’t normally get to the CFP would increase eyes on the TV and more revenue.
Red Eye:
Oregon and Nebraska is your latest game and close to midnight. That’s not exciting, because when you’ve replaced the Hawaii game against anybody for that slot, and it’s no more interesting, you’ve lost, B1G.
Praying to see Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, and Tech all lose on one day. Could be a glorious one.
If you still have power and a house standing, it’s a pretty decent day for football watching. Let’s start with the slate of SEC games:
First off, peep the prices on some of these games. If you’re close to Nashville, you can take you family, extended family, and half your company to go watch the Ole Miss vs. Jared Curtis show. Ditto for Arkansas.
Aside from that, you’ve got the Red River Rivalry at 3:30 though I suspect that Texas walks away with this one since Oklahoma has key starters out and since Mateer doesn’t understand basic physics and can’t throw a football forward most of the time. Still not too late to change those Fabris Pool picks, if you want.
South Carolina at Florida is good watching, and I’ll be checking the score on that Kentucky vs. LSU game while the Alabama game is in progress. I’m rooting for Will Stein and the ‘Cats, if I’m being honest. Lane Kiffin anuerism incoming.

Indiana has looked fallible, and we’re all wondering, B1G if Nebraska is back. I don’t know who Nebraska’s quarterback is, but I’ll find out today.

Boise State vs Fresno State:
Napoleon Dynamite meets Karate Kid II. Plus, they are really close in Sagarin Rankings, so should be a good nightcap.
Plenty of football on today, and it kicks off at 11 am today. If you prefer to watch something other than the waning moments of College Gameday and Pat McAfee drinking Alanis and pounding adderall, you have options.

Yeah, a 7:45 pm game featuring LSU vs. McNeese State makes sense. Anyways.
Alabama vs. Mississippi State looks like a classic SEC West battle and will be interesting to see how good Alabama’s defense really is. I suspect Alabama’s offense will do just fine, but this could be a barnburner.
Auburn at Tennessee, pray for a meteor.
Florida is looking for revenge against Missouri, but this could be an interesting one. Missouri’s lagging offense versus Florida’s questionable defense, while Florida’s lights-out offense is going up against their first top 15 defense on the season. I’ll take Florida to win, but I wonder if it’ll be closer than we think.

At South Carolina, Shane Beamer was beaming about having quality practices the past week…but this could be one to watch to see if this is where Shane gets fired. Lose to Kentucky, and I’m sure the writing is on the wall to bring Buster to Columbia or maybe Brian Kelly is already doing his warm-up practice dancing to Sandstorm as we speak.
Other than the SEC, pretty dull watching. Ohio State goes to Iowa to face the undefeated Hawkeyes, who surprisingly enough finally adopted the idea that the forward pass is, in fact, a legal play in college football. Despite the undefeated record, they are still all defense with a serviceable enough offense.
There’s a few decent midday ACC matchups, and, of course, Hawai’i is kicking off one minute prior to midnight on the Mountain West Plus (Streameast, IYKYK).
Ranked matchups this week: UT vs UT, Ole Miss vs FU, Mizzou vs Moo State, A&M vs LSU in the losers bracket. There’s also Iowa vs Michigan but, Michigan lost and shouldn’t be ranked.

Reckon how many seconds will be left on the clock at the end of the Michigan/UTEP game? Western Kentucky, we’re all rooting for you, go be great. Does Auburn/Florida have any luster to it at all? Neither ranked, yet they get a night game while the #2 team in the country plays at noon (technically 11am). Nebraska favored by 25.5 over North Dakota? Hell, an upset here wouldn’t surprise me. Kennesaw State, we’re all rooting for you, go be great.

Good morning! All the build up to the season kinda ended with a whimper last weekend. Oh, you had some upsets and controversy but, were any of last weekend’s games instant classics? Maybe, but for the wrong reasons.
This week gives us one matchup of ranked teams and, it’s a doozy, a top 5 matchup between #1 Ohio State and #5 Texas. The words “meteor game” get thrown around a lot but, in this case, it fits. As much as it pains me, I’m gonna go for Texas to win this. I’d rather an SEC team knock off OSU. If Georgia is all we think they can be, they can handle Texas down the road. Now, I’m not betting on Texas, I’m just looking for any angle that benefits UGA.
Nothing would warm my cold, black heart more than seeing Bama get throttled in the quagmire that Kentucky can become. A loss here and ol’ Kalen’ll be feeling a might bit warm in the seat. Another meteor game takes place in the ATL today. I actually think it would be more entertaining if Yech wins but, I ain’t ever rooting for them sumbitches (or those other sumbitches, either). Speaking of hot seats, if Clay Helton and the GSU Eagles walk out of death valley with a win today, the heat in the actual Death Valley won’t compare to Dabo’s hot seat.

Good morning! Well, the appetizers are over. Time for the main course. However, I must say the Thursday Night Tears of Tech was magnifico! What’s on the main course for today, you might ask?
That UCLA/Cal game gonna hit like crack. There’s not one matchup today of ranked teams, this is very much tune-up weekend. Y’all got anyone on upset alert? Last I saw, the WarTigerPlainsmenEagles are a 7.5 favorite. Be interesting to see what Baylor can give them. Of course, the spread isn’t always an indicator that be indicating at the first of the season, just ask Rutgers. Per the oddsmakers, two of the closely competitive games are the two 10:30pm kickoffs, so, if you watch, may be entertaining enough to keep you awake (passing out in a drunken stupor doesn’t count), not that they are marquee games, just evenly matched per the odds.

The team with the lowest average attendance (granted, Wallace Wade is not a big venue, seating 40,000 people) that could barely fill Paulson Stadium in Statesboro wins the conference, unbeknownst to Duke fans. Then the best quarterback you’ve never heard of bolts for Miami for Carson Beck-esque dollars.
Not much to come back for in 2026, I guess.
Kind of reminds me of Ole Miss, except the quarterback was compelled to stay by a local judge.
