Your ND game-day thread – week 8

As we enter the bye week before the stretch run, here’s the SEC slate for later today:

The SEC storylines are pretty good this weekend:

  1. Can Auburn build on an improbable upset in Athens last weekend at 11 am when the Kiffin Kancer and the Corn Dogs roll into the Loveliest Cesspool on the Plains? My bet is no.
  2. The Poultry are a favorite at home against a Tennessee team knocking on the top 10 door. Will Tennessee fall to the enormous game letdown we’ve see elsewhere this season? Defense travels.
  3. How quickly will the Bammer message boards meltdown if Texas 8&4 makes it a game?
  4. Is Brent Venables living on borrowed time if the Sooners lose in StarkVegas?
  5. In the one ranked matchup this week, could Sark be coaching for his job in Austin on Saturday night?
  6. Is Kentucky a contender or pretender? I think pretender, but they win again this weekend.

Elsewhere:

Houston and Utah on Big 12 After Dark could be compelling. Right now, the Big 12 could be a 3 bid league if things break right.

I have USC on upset alert at Wisconsin. The Men of Troy are a 3 point favorite going into Madison.

Snoozer of the week … Boston College at the North Avenue Trade School at 3:30 on the ACC Network. You can throw on some red and get tickets for as low as $24 to go root against the nerds at Richt-Smart Field at Vince Dooley Stadium.

What are you going to be watching?

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. Some wild odds this week. Can’t believe Sackerlina favored over 10RC, or OU over Cowbells. Texas game seems a tossup, though I’m tired of Ole Miss so I’m supporting the wife and pulling for the steers. UH at Utah will be a good game tonight.

    • Seriously? Cackalackey is giving points to the punkins after they stoned the tide last week? OK, Vegas!

aubrun v LSU is a tossup. My side piece Bayou Bengals took up with Lane so they’re dead to me for the time being.

Hotty Toddy! Texas is the Notre Dame of the SEC. Hopelessly overhyped and over media-d, and overrated. And they wear orange. #FTMF

Time to go check on the ribs. I’ve been craving good BBQ so today is the day for it. Go Dawgs!

  2. 5-1 last week. A solid 23-12 documented performance for the year (66%). Out of respect for JP in the woods today, I will provide another free week of service to my GTP friends — LETS GO!

    UCF +6.5 BYU

    Aub +8.5 LSU

    TENN -2.5 USCe

    NewMex -4.5 N Dakota St

    OkSt -13.5 Colorado

    Ov 51.5 Boise/WashSt

    Ov 56.5 TCU/WestVirginia

  3. LSU controlling Aubrie’s QB….until they don’t. As long as they don’t turnover the ball 3 times tigahs win. Funny how that works.

    • Yep, he’s averaging a little over 2 yards a carry so far today. He averaged a little over four against us.

  4. Told my wife yesterday that LSU would beat the shit out of Auburn so she’s the only one that can vouch for me.

Just reminded her, seizing one of the few opportunities I get to hear “you were right”.

I HOPE last week was just a case of us making Auburn look a helluva lot better than they are.

  5. One thing about Aubie vs. LSU I can take joy in one of them losing and ignore the winner.

Cocky hosting anyone is always a trap game. Nobody can predict when they decide to play good or suck as usual. You just don’t want to be there when they decide to be good.

I plan on watching TU vs Ole Miss rooting for the meteor strike.

  6. Other than the Barn getting whipped at home, these other games are crazy. Aggies battling with the Tide (they can’t drop three in a row, can they?), Carolina racing out to a quick lead and on cue, giving it back. BYU on upset alert from the fighting Scott Frosts?

  7. Trinadad stinking it up against Texas.. first qtr.

O’Ms defense will be gassed by halftime at this rate.

Had to turn the volume off…all the blubbering and blabbering about Arch is sickening. They can’t take the camera off him..It’s not his fault..but it’s ridiculous.

    • Arch was locked in on his first read on most passes. Somehow Herbie turns that into proof of excellence. Even after the first interception when Arch waits forever then throws the pick. His slobbering over Arch was ridiculous from a supposed unbiased announcer.

  8. Well, there were some surprises yesterday weren’t there? Week to week, you never know which teams are going to show up and which teams aren’t. It does seem that teams are having problems winning after an emotional and tough win the week before (UGA, BYU, Tennessee, Alabama) and some teams look great one week and like crap the next (Ole Miss, South Carolina, Florida) and some teams just aren’t what they used to be and struggle in every game (Clemson, FSU, Oklahoma) . This is a very interesting season to say the least. I just hope that UGA can get healthy and get their focus back this week and kick some Gator ASS!.

  9. I was traveling yesterday and missed all the games. I usually tune in to College Football Final on SUN morning while having my coffee to see the highlights, which apparently I haven’t really paid attention to this year.

Dear Gawd, it is unwatchable, or more specifically, unlistenable. The new host, whose name I don’t care to look up sounds like a less funny Charlie Day on 6 Red Bulls. The old show had its corny bits, but it wasn’t aurally repugnant.

Thanks ESPN, for killing the one last show I gave a shit about on your lousy network.

  10. Can’t believe Texas actually pulled it out. I thought they were in full choke mode but once they quit letting Arch throw the ball, they calmed down and won.
