Of Course It Was Going to Be a Night Game

We couldn’t have gotten one of those marquee noon slots on ESPN, could we?

I’m sure it’s about two undefeated teams something something and the rivalry and the brand…but…didn’t that just happen last weekend with Tennessee and Texas?

Methinks Nick Saban may be whispering into producers ears up in Bristol.

SEC Net Yards Per Play, Week Four

It’s still early in the season, but some of yall were asking about the Net YPP and what it looks like so far. Jon Tweets Sports was kind enough to do all the math for us, so credit due to him.

As a rule, the Senator used a +2 as criteria for a Playoff-worthy team.

Not only is it shocking to see both Florida and Mississippi State (!) up there, but equally shocking to see Ole Miss and Texas A&M down at the bottom.

On offense:

And defense:

When your defense is looking more woeful than Arkansas, you may be hitting rock bottom. Turns out Ole Miss might’ve needed to invest in a few more defensive stars and not out all their eggs in just the Chambliss basket.

A New Contender Arrives: Week Four Mumme Poll

Suddenly, a team that most said would be lucky to go .500 this season has found its way to a Top 10 rankings in the AP and Coaches Polls:

As a footnote, our loyal GTPRefugee voters had Florida #9 in last week’s poll, so this shouldn’t come as a shock to any of us.

Vote today by clicking the link here to see where the Gators rank in this week’s poll.

MASH HERE

Bonus questions this week:

  1. What area of the team concerns you the most (you can only pick one).
  2. What area of the team is our strength
  3. What do you think will be the result of this year’s WLOCP?

Musical Palate Cleanser: Iron Maiden Does the National Anthem

Maybe a misleading title, but thought this was impressive:

Anyone have the secret to keep the onions from making me cry?

Everyone’s Scoring in Athens

I’m not sure we’ve properly appreciated this. Four weeks into the season, and your Georgia Bulldogs are the only CFB team to score on a fumble recovery, and interception, and a special teams return.

The broadcast threw up a graphic that showed we had scored some insane amount in the first quarter all season, and I told my buddy what a disappointment we only eeked out a touchdown when we’d been averaging closer to 28 points in the first quarter.

Fire Bobo.

I keed I keed. But there’s something different about this team…four covered spreads, scoring like it’s going out of style, and playing tremendous defense so far this season. Maybe there’s a reason:

Kirby’s on the mother. Thank God, because meanwhile in Gainesville:

The bad news: Florida seems to be good again.

Good news: Faulkner isn’t likely to be there long. I hear they may need a new coach in South Carolina, and I’d imagine Buster can name his price.

He’ll, they might need a new on at Texas A&M, too. Buster will be a head coach soon enough.

Chris Cole, Taking It In Stride

The obvious play of the game Saturday can be summed up in an image:

What amazed me more was watching Cole’s stride length as he ran it back. I told my buddy that at one point it looked like he was hitting around two steps per five yards on the return.

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who noticed, and somebody did some math on it.

Two points: for any Stockton doubters, please see John Mateer.

Second, the job Kirby has done finding otherworldly linebackers needs to be commended.

Chris Cole is special…let’s properly enjoy him while we can.

Keeping It Classy In Austin

In case you missed it, the “Real UTI” was defined over the weekend, with Texass prevailing over Tennessee. If you could’ve told me there was a program that could outclass the Vols, I’d say bullshit.

But, man, the Longhorns really stepped up their game, I’ll give them that.

Colin Simmons, here’s your roses.

But wait…there’s more!

Gotta hand it to you, Shorthorns. You joined the league and have had an immediate impact to somehow wash away the general douchiness of Tennessee and Florida fanbases, albeit you can’t actually win the conference.

Go Gators: Mumme Voters High on Hogtown, Too

We should all hang our heads in shame.

Others receiving votes: Duke, Boise State, App State

In regards to our thoughts on the bonus questions:

Most Overrated – Texas A&M at 30%, with Texas not far behind at 25%. 14% of you said LSU, and another 12% said Oklahoma (we will find out soon enough, won’t we?)

Most Underrated – Mississippi State at 42%, with Florida and Kentucky getting the next highest nod at 16% each.

Most Likely to Make the CFP – Y’all went with a narrow field, only selecting Georgia (70%), Texas (21%), Ole Miss (7%) and a lone vote for Alabama (2%).

Also, we clearly don’t like the B1G, at all. And I agree and understand.

Wednesday Wondering: Did Watching Football Peak in 2017?

At least, maybe, for Dawg fans?

The National Championships were great, don’t get me wrong. 2022 Peach Bowl was cinema. But I’m not sure it ever got better than this.

Im not sure I’ll witness a game like that again in my lifetime, though the 2022 Ohio State game was close. But that felt more like a “we escaped”. The Rose Bowl was pure, unbridled joy and happiness. It signaled that the long 40 years of frustration might actually be turning into something unfamiliar…Hope.

What a time to be alive.
