Let all the Bulldog faithful rally behind the men who now wear the red and black with two words, two simple words which express the sentiments of the entire Bulldog Nation: Auburn Sucks.
Good afternoon! Who has their tailgate rig ready? When are ya heading out for Athens? With our current situation, we just plan to sit in Section HD out on the dock this season and cheer on the Dawgs. Y’all have a cold one for me Saturday. I’ll have several for y’all!
We are 2 days away from the Dawgs taking the field. But, today, we have a slate of college football games to tide us over. We have games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday (the only proper day for college football, I’ll die on this hill), Sunday and Monday as college football takes over the weekend. Today’s slate of games is below and here is card #102 from the Georgia’s Finest set to represent 2 days to go!
We have a slate of 17 games today. Missouri (who has no business in the SEC) begins their campaign tonight as they host Central Arkansas. Go Bears! We kick the day off at 5:30pm with Boise State @ South Florida and end with a 9:00pm kickoff for Miami (OH) @ Wisconsin.
As I usually ask… Who ya taking, who ya fading? What’s the best chance for an over? Who’s making money today?
This post is open for your game day comments throughout the day.
Good morning! We’ve been counting down the days until our beloved Dawgs take the field to kickoff their 2025 NCAA Football campaign. We have 7 days left, one week! Here is card #107 in our countdown.
But, before we get there, there’s this little thing they decided to call Week 0. Is that still a thing? Or have we moved on from that already?
Whatever. We have a slate of 5 games today. I wouldn’t consider any of them marquee games but, dammit, it’s college football and I am gonna watch!
So, who’s trying to earn some extra bucks on these games? Who ya taking, who ya fading? What’s the best chance for an over? Does anyone have a valid interest in any of these games? Or, are we just gonna watch because we’ve been jonesing for football for months?
This post is open for your game day comments throughout the day. One more week… and then…
By the time I got last night’s quarterfinal turned on, it was 14-0 Penn State. I spent most of yesterday afternoon/early evening preparing New Year’s Day lunch for my family and my dad. I know pork is a traditional New Year’s Day dish but, my Dad is a big fan of the beef liver that I make in the crockpot. So, the pork will have to come from the smoked neckbone and bacon that I put in the collards. Mrs. Day and I washed, stemmed and shredded collards, browned the liver and got everything together, ready and loaded into the crockpots. That all kicked on and started cooking around 4:00am this morning. A pot of Blackeyed Peas and a bowl of mashed potatoes were started at 11:00am. Plates will be served at noon. Here’s wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Here’s the college football schedule through Friday of this week:
.
We got one quarterfinal out of the way last night and three more to slog through today. I’m no prognosticator but, I see TX, OR and UGA advancing today. Here’s a quick look at the bracket and who goes where after today…
.
.
I’m pleased with UGA’s bracket, toughest game should be the last one. In advance of tonight’s game, UGA has released the hype video for the quarterfinal against the Irish, narrated by Ladd McConkey…:
.
.
If that don’t get ya going, you need to go to the doctor’s office, strip down naked and have him check you from head to toe cause something is wrong with you.
I spent Friday night and Saturday at Disney World with the family, so I only checked in on the games when I had a chance. I think we can say the 1st round games delivered in proving college football is different from the NFL and March Madness. Talent matters, and Bobby Hill is overrated.
Let’s start our trip in South Bend where Marcus Freeman’s defense destroyed Indiana’s hope of a Hoosier state title.
Imagine not winning a game against a team currently ranked in the top 25 and being splattered by the 1 you did play. Indiana, you were a cute story throughout the year, but you should have been playing in a New Year’s 6 bowl or having a nice postseason celebration of your season in a sunny locale. Instead, you are home for the holidays with the most empty calorie 11-2 record we’ve seen since Hawaii got scattered, smothered, covered and chunked in the 2008 Sugar Bowl.
On the Notre Dame side, your All-American tailback gained 108 yards and you had almost 200 yards on the ground … good for you. 98 of those came on one play. Let me just put it this way. You aren’t going to overwhelm the Georgia line of scrimmage.
Let’s move over to State College for the Death Penalty Bowl to check in on the Ponies.
I said last week that SMU was this year’s TCU except TCU won a playoff game. This game was the classic “the moment was too big and they pissed down their leg” Coach 30 moment. Penn State had 74 yards of offense and a 14-0 lead due to 2 pick 6s. At that moment, the game was out of reach.
The big question coming out of the first 2 games is whether either of these 2 schools were worthy of an at-large bid. I think it’s safe to say the answer is no.
Let’s move on to Austin for what would turn out to be the game of the weekend.
A really bad 2nd quarter dooms Dabo and the Tiggers. Clemson cuts the lead to 7 and then gives up a long TD run to put the game away. To the geniuses on TigerNet, who are you going to hire to take Dabo’s place? Clemson is still the team in the ACC best constructed to play deep into January. Is Dabo the best in-game coach? No way. Has he built a program and a culture that can stand the test of time? I think so. The problem is he doesn’t have a pair of championship-quality coordinators to lean on for game planning and recruiting.
I did find this troll to be humorous.
Let’s end the trip segment of the weekend in Columbus. Damn, why didn’t the meteor show up?
Tennessee social media and message boards could be the most toxic in the world of the CFB internet. I admit I got this one wrong … bad wrong. Tennessee got boat raced. Jeremiah Smith is a man. Nico is still way overrated. When you get outcoached by the Just for Men spokescoach, you pretty much suck.
What’s the excuse this time, Vols? Face it. Your coach runs up big numbers against inferior competition, finds magic for a game every other year (Bama in Kneeland), and looks lousy against teams that are superior.
There’s going to be a winter of discontent in Knoxville.
What does all of this mean for Georgia? While ND doesn’t scare me, they could be a tough out if we don’t have a good game plan for Gunner or our execution sucks … not a time for a slow start. Penn State feasted on a QB not ready for prime time. Our offensive line will have to play their asses off in a game with them. Texas and Ohio State are both troublesome. Hopefully, Gunner has settled in by the time we possibly get to one of them.
For a bonus feature, here are some tidbits from other boards over the weekend.
Talk about toxic, bunch of Yankee idiots.Ole Miss fans dunk on the Laner.24-3, anyone?
What did you see this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.
Hot damn! The playoffs are here! I think I need a drink. Here’s the schedule for tonight and tomorrow:
Any way, the ESPN football tournament kicks off tonight with the footballbasketball soccer powerhouse Indiana Hoosiers facing off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish whose record against IU is 23-5-1. Gives new meaning to Grizzard’s quote “two mules fighting over a turnip”. Manufactured excitement is the best excitement, don’t ya think? Anyone give a damn which one of these teams advances to the sUGAr Bowl?
Then tomorrow we get to kickoff the day with the SMU/Penn State matchup. A game between Ty Ty Tech and ABAC would be more interesting. And ticket sales have reflected that, the only game with big interest is the 8:00 game tomorrow night and that’s only because Toothless Nation is so desperate for relevance that they will take any opportunity. The WORST fan base in college football. Quite an accomplishment. Oh meteor, wherefore art thou meteor? Oh, and Clemson & Texas play tomorrow, too. More mules, more turnips, not much fight.
Ticket sales have lagged for these games. So what? This is ESPN’s tourney, they don’t give a damn who attends, just be sure you tune in on TV, you guys!
Well, it’s here. And because I am addicted to college football, I will watch all of it.
This post is available for your comments throughout tonight’s game and tomorrow.
I’m going to do a daily feature using the first look for each of the playoff games (no full previews other than UGA games).
Basketball school (yes, I know Hoosiers is about high school basketball) vs. Football school
The first expanded ESPN Invitational (sorry, College Football Playoff) starts on Friday night as Indiana(!) and Notre Dame play in South Bend for the Indiana state championship and the right to take on our Dawgs in New Orleans. The Hoosiers come in with a sparkling 11-1 record made up of their biggest win being against 7-5 Michigan with one big blemish in the only game they played all season against a ranked team against Ohio State that may serve as an omen for how this game could go. The Irish come in with an 11-1 record packed with wins over Almost Competitive Conference teams, service academies, and underachieving USC and Texas A&M teams and a terrible home loss to Northern Illinois. Let’s get to the preview.
Series Record: Notre Dame (not surprisingly) leads the series (23-5-1) and currently enjoys a 6 game winning streak stretching from 1951-1991.
Last Meeting: In 1991, Notre Dame rolled Indiana 49-27 in South Bend in the first game NBC broadcasted under the current contract with the Golden Domers. Rick Mirer (I hadn’t thought of that name in a long time) was arrested earlier in the week for underage drinking and led the Irish to the victory. No one ever says Lou Holtz lost control of his team.
Gambling Degenerate Facts: The Harrah’s sports book at the Venetian has Notre Dame as a 7.5 favorite with a money line of -292 and a point total of 51.
How Should a Refugee Watch This Game: Of course, the winner of this game will advance to the Sugar Bowl. This game will likely be must-see TV throughout the Peach State as Dawg fans try to get a look at the 2 potential quarterfinal opponents. I haven’t really watched Indiana at all this year, so I’ll be trying to assess whether their lines of scrimmage can hold up against the depth advantage we would likely have over them. I have watched the Irish off and on this year, and I’ll really be watching to see if former Duke QB Riley Leonard can throw the ball efficiently enough to allow Notre Dame to find some level of balance against the Georgia defense.
Interesting Statistic: Indiana – 93.94%/81.82% offensive red zone conversion (overall/TD) vs. Notre Dame – 73.33%/56.67% defensive red zone conversion
This statistic seems to indicate a game of the irresistible force versus the immovable object or “Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.” Cignetti vs. Freeman. Notre Dame hasn’t allowed many trips into their red zone (2 1/2 per game), and Indiana has been efficient scoring touchdowns once in the red zone. Whichever wins out likely has the inside track to win.
Early Outlook
Based on the current weather forecast, temperatures are likely not to break freezing in northwest Indiana and the temperature is going to be in the high 20s at kickoff. That forecast bodes well for the type of game Notre Dame wants this game to be where they are likely superior across both lines of scrimmage.
This game feels a lot like when Georgia and Kentucky play especially when the teams square off in Sanford where superior athletes eventually take over the game . Assuming normal turnover margin, I think Indiana is going to have trouble turning this into the kind of game they need it to be to win where they make the Irish one-dimensional and force Leonard to win the game with his arm. The Notre Dame lines of scrimmage and eventually Jeremiah Love and the Irish defense wear down the Hoosiers and send them back to Bloomington thinking, “Wouldn’t a trip to Orlando on New Year’s Day been more fun than this?”
While I would prefer to see Indiana, the Dawgs get ready to extend our series lead over the Irish in a 1981 Sugar Bowl rematch (“You got the Hunchback! We have the tailback!”) in the Superdome.
What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
It’s conference championship weekend. The final pieces of the playoff puzzle should fall into place after this weekend. With the limited amount of games today, I decided to just do 1 game day post. Here’s today’s schedule:
The only 2 games of consequence, in my mind, are the SEC Championship and the ACC Championship. The World’s Smallest Outdoor Cocktail Party will probably attract more viewers than it ever has considering the playoff implications on the outcome of that game. I expect a lot of the country to tune in to that one with the sentiment primarily leaning towards Clemson’s opportunity to keep Bama out.
The SEC game, is what it is. I’ll never turn down an SEC Championship but, unfortunately, the CFP has become the be all end all of the college football season. So, a loss isn’t the end of UGA’s road but, sure will make things tougher. Let’s just whip the Horns’ ass and move ahead. You ready? Let’s get hyped!

A few games tonight. Thought I’d pop this up here for anyone that wished to gather and discuss tonight’s games. One already underway, here’s the schedule:
Feel free to discuss throughout the night here. A new game day post will be provided tomorrow for Saturday’s games.
