No nooners yet

The SEC released the first batch of game times for early September and a few other rivalry games (https://www.secsports.com/fbtv#schedule) on Thursday. The one surprise I saw is Alabama will host Wisconsin at 11 a.m. Central as the warm-up for what is likely the last UGA-Tennessee game in Knoxville for a few years regardless of the scheduling format in 2026. The flip side is that LSU gets 2 home games at night right off the bat.

As it relates to Georgia, the first 3 games will all be at 3:30. I’m just glad the Tennessee game won’t be at night in Kneeland. No surprise that the last Cocktail Party in Jacksonville for a couple of years will be in its traditional 3:30 slot. A really big surprise is that Clean Old-Fashioned Hate in Mercedes-Benz will be sandwiched between the hatefests of the Egg Bowl and Texas-Texas A&M at 3:30 on Black Friday rather than in its traditional sleepy noon slot at Richt-Smart Field at Vince Dooley Stadium. No excuse for a full-throated Dawg invasion of downtown Atlanta.

It Just Means We Need More

Well, I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out what’s about to happen next.

In addition to considerations about matching the B1G in number of conference games to “even the playing field” and match the rigor of the regular season schedule (note: the B1G would need to delete and add some other teams to even sniff that as it compares to the SEC) the biggest thing would be the potential to reach a close to a billion dollar a year agreement with Mickey’s Happiest Network on Earth.

There is no formal offer yet, those sources added, and the exact amount of the increase still needs to be fully negotiated. But the sources said the additional money would likely be in the range of $50-80 million annually on top of the current deal, in which ESPN pays the conference $811 million per year to broadcast its sporting events. Both ESPN and the SEC declined to comment.

Anytime we are in bed with ESPN or the B1G, you can bet your bottom dollar (and theirs) that it will benefit league leaders and networks only, and no one else.

Money talks, tradition walks, I guess. Some things are actually worse than Texas football being involved in the conference nowadays.

Sleep Like a Champion Today

The ratings are in for the Lushes and Liars bowl game. Not surprisingly, the day and possible participants didn’t feel in the greatest of ratings.

Compared to the prior CFP and Bowl games:

Keep in mind 16.6 million tuned in to watch Georgia and Texass in the SECCG…but, you know, the SEC is dying as a conference in comparison to the B1G viewership.

Oregon-Penn State only drew 10.5 for the B1GCG. The highest viewed B1G game was The Game, at 12.3 million (UGA-Texas game 1 drew 13.1 million).

But what about average viewership, you say?

Mickey had best be careful about the SEC shade. It’s be a shame if the conference up and developed their own independent network, wouldn’t it? Hell, I’d opt for the CW or Hallmark Network before we give another red dime to the WWLIS.

Just imagine if Notre Dame joined the SEC or ACC.

Tuning In Today’s Game + Game Day post

My son has a Physical Therapy appointment at 3:00 today so, most likely, I will miss the start of the game. It’s on y’all to build up a lead before I am able to join in!

SEC Championship Game Replays

Good morning! I ran into some technical issues last weekend so, I just got these videos uploaded to our YouTube channel this weekend. I have 2 recording rigs setup in my home, one with my home theater and one in my home office. Neither damned one recorded any audio last weekend. I spent all day Monday troubleshooting, got absolutely no where. Gave up for a few days. Went back to it Friday. Everything was working just fine on Friday. What the heck? Typical of my luck.

So, I got all the broadcasts from replays on ESPN and their app. We have the regular broadcast, the Skycast, Field Pass (warning! Marty & McGee are 2 of the primary hosts, I cannot stand either of them and their fake southernness!), the SEC Trophy Presentation (it means rest for our team!) and the SEC Inside episode that ran this week.

Y’all better watch every durned one of them, considering the time I spent getting them uploaded! lol. well… you can skip the Field Pass, I’d totally understand!

Game Replay, clean old-fashioned eight

Eight overtimes will blow the end time of a game right past the amount of time you have set on your recorder! So, yeah, the end got cut off, so, I had to re-record it, in real time. So, the first re-recording I did… had Spanish audio and announcers. Dammit! So, I had to re-record it a 3rd time. That recording went well and I was then able to edit it down and upload it to Youtube. Also, there was a Skycast of the game and I got that as well. On Skycast you get to see the full halftime show, that was nice…

So, here’s how my Friday night went. My son and I went to the Worth County/Fitzgerald playoff game. With 4:00 to go in the 3rd quarter, WC was up 38-21. We lost 38-42. Had 3 drives stopped inside the 5 yard line from that point, could go up and down the field but, just couldn’t punch it in. Fitzgerald runs some sort of Wing-T running offense and they just wore our defense down, grounding and pounding until they were just ripping off huge run after run. So, we left there disappointed. We’d been checking on the UGA game and knew that things weren’t going well there either, so it was looking like Friday was going to be a terrible day of football.

We got home and turned on the game just after Dan Jackson forced THE fumble and we jumped on the merry-go-round as it was spinning at a 100 miles an hour and held on. Everyone was finally rewarded/relieved when Tech’s attempt failed and it was finally over. Helluva game. Enjoy the replays…
