Euro Steps in the Right Direction

Say what you will about Mike White and the Hoop Dawgs this year, but this is a bit of an improvement over last year’s team, which ended up making the NCAA Tournament.

Huge game coming up tonight in Nashville against a ranked Vanderbilt team. Pull an upset there, and I think we can safely say the Dawgs are dancing again in 2026.

Highlight Reel Tuesday

In case you’re like me, and wisely chose not to watch Georgia Basketball in action (hey, they’re back to back winners since I quit watching again…note to self), then here’s the highlight reel from the Texas game:

Similarly, here’s a recap of the Samford series for the Diamond Dawgs:

Go, Dawgs!

Not a Bad Weekend in Georgia Athletics

To quote the great poet, Mr. Cube:

Get me on the court and I’m trouble
Last week, messed around and got a triple-double
Freakin’ brothers every way like MJ
I can’t believe today was a good day

First, the Hoop Dawgs got a much needed Quad 1 win:

Is there ever a time that beating Texass is a bad thing? No, no there’s never a bad time to beat the Longhorns. Ever.

And on the bump:

One of the Diamond Dawgs wins came with an ominous message afterwards, apparently pointed at the press:

He clarified on Sunday that it had nothing to do with the team, so I’m guessing he’s not liking the press covering his team? Or maybe he just channeled his inner Kirby Smart. Either way, laying a belt to a** against a team projected to win a conference is never a bad thing.

On to other news, the legend of Dan Magill lingers on:

and

Mind you, the Gym Dawgs lost a narrow one to Florida on Friday and the Softball team lost an upset to Virginia Tech, but 4 out of 6 ain’t bad.

Go Dawgs!

Just When I Thought I Was Out…

They pull me back in.

Quick programming note, I rolled back to my past superstitions and did not watch. My phone had to notify me of the win, and I went to the Twix.

Blue Cain finally is starting to show up, and Wilkinson returned to the lineup and was a sorely missed aspect of the team in his two recent missed games.

It was the first win in Rupp since 2009, and only the fifth time we’ve beaten Kentucky in Rupp.

It was desperately needed, as Georgia went from a projected 7 or 8 seed three weeks ago to being close to one of the first four out. Georgia hosts Texas this weekend, and gets rematches against Miss State and South Carolina, with two more ranked opponents, Vanderbilt (away) and Alabama (home).

If we’re going to pick a place to make a run, there’s no time like the present.

I Do Solemnly Swear

To do my level best to not post about Georgia Basketball again, not until it seems like we’re taking it seriously in Athens, anyway. It was a twenty point loss, so there’s that. I’ll try to shut up now.

Meanwhile, there is a program that’s taking it very seriously, and it’s Lady Bulldog Tennis.

Go Dawgs!

Wednesday Wondering: A Wonder of the World

Let’s start this off with this:

Granted, it’s not the football stadium, but let’s suppose the day comes when it’s determined that a major University sports arena is on the chopping block in Athens. I shudder to think anything would ever happen to Sanford, given its location, renovations, et al, I think it’ll be around long after all of us here are gone.

But what about the other athletics facilities? Track and Field got a new facility this year, and other newer programs have seen facilities upgrades over the years…but what about this:

I have some sentimental feelings around the Coliseum, but not sentimental enough if it means we can get a better facility and better programs running through it. While the renovations have improved some of the aesthetics, it still has the feeling of an “unserious” basketball program in comparison to other facilities.

Maybe an arena area would be in the plans for Athens, with a new basketball arena at the center to host basketball and gymnastics at the center, or maybe not. What’s your thoughts? Should the Coliseum become a relic of days gone by, or is it too sentimental to let go of?

Rearranging Deck Chairs on the Titanic

Ugh.

Down three in overtime with sixteen seconds to go, Millender dribbles around for 14 of them and goes in for a layup with .6 seconds remaining. Just insane.

As I’ve said before, folks are figuring out to slow down Georgia, and Tennessee outreboudned the Dawgs 52-27 with their bigger lineup against our guys.

I’m going back to my promise to not watch anymore.

I swear.

Let’s Hear It for the Girls

The Men’s Hoop Dawgs dropped an ugly one over the weekend, and subsequently dropped out of the AP Top 25. The Ladies, on the other hand, are making some Andy Landers era like noise.

They beat two top 25 teams in a three game streak, and have been rolling this season. The men are back in action Wednesday against the Hillbillies, let’s hope the Men’s squad can follow the Ladies suit.

Meanwhile, the Gym Dawgs are returning to old Yoculan form.

Go Dawgs!

Jekyll and Hide

Chaser:

The wheels came off the bus and ricocheted around enough to knock the whole team out. Blue Cain has been nonexistent in SEC play and Georgia couldn’t transition quickly enough. Teams are learning how to slow down the Hoop Dawgs and that ain’t good.
