G Day Thoughts and Observations

Let’s just leave this here.

My uneducated observations:

  • It’s a spring game, so it’s hard to know what to make of defensive prowess and ability since they know we’re throwing 80% of the time. I did think the secondary showed flashes of greatness even without Ellis out there.
  • O Line looked surprisingly good, chiefly because Greene looked to be healthy again and Jah is just a big ass dude. I think they’ll be fine.

As a general reminder, Elyiss (#10) is 6’7ā€ and 255. Jah is possibly 8 feet, 500 pounds. Lawd.

  • A lot of buzz around Millender, and a lot of head scratching around Pug. It will be interesting to see who QB2 will be, though I think Gunner has proven he can’t be knocked out of games unless you literally knock him out. And that would be for a play.
  • A definite strength will be the RB and TE rooms. Dowdle looks like he’ll be a solid contributor and Prothro is everything as advertised. There seemed to be no such thing as a contested ball with Prothro. I feel like I saw our TEs lining up at wide out. Smart.
  • Receivers had their moments but no one really stood out as elite, at least from the parts I could see. To be fair, it’s hard to get separation when the defense knows it’s a likely pass. Looked like they’re trying to find ways to get Bell into some situations where they can use his speed on sweeps. Blackshear sightings late in the game.
  • I miss Thorson already. Punting was not bad, but not inspiring like Brett could only do. Woodring is Woodring, and that’s a good thing.
  • it felt like our defensive line did a good job of getting in the backfield and at least being disruptive, so Havoc could be a little better but, again, you can do that when you know what’s likely coming.
  • more to the point, the lines look deep and I don’t have the usual trepidation about having only a couple core guys with no one behind them if they go down. Smart has done well to address this for 2026.
  • Bryson Beavers, for a kid who was taking his last high school exam four months ago, looked very comfortable and has some real upside. I’d like to see him develop and hopefully we can keep him around a while.

Aside from that, it was a beautiful day and I was in Athens, and as a completely surprising bonus, my girls were there and I got to explain football to my oldest, who now is looking forward to coming to a real game this fall. And at least this didn’t happen yesterday:

What were your thoughts, if you watched?

Pork, Crackling

Special Teams must’ve been busy in Fayetteville.

Nine home runs in one game. Three by Dan Jackson, who was 5-6 for the outing.

Maybe that’s the solve to our day three pitching woes.

Your G Day Gameday Post

Apologies to Otis if I’m overstepping, but wanted to put this out early since we can all watch and make snarky QBR posts today as we watch.

Enjoy this final glimpse of football as we head into the dark doldrums off summer speculation and hot takes, and post your comments here. I’ll be there, and if I can snap a few pictures I’ll share later in the day.

Have at it, scamps, and as always, behave.

Ellis, Islanded

Gotdammit.

This is getting too close for comfort.

The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to be without star cornerback Ellis Robinson for their spring game. Robinson, according to a report from Dawg Central’s Graham Coffey, is out for the G-Day game after suffering a high ankle sprain. The redshirt sophomore cornerback could decide to undergo TightRope surgery on his ankle.

In the past, Georgia players like offensive lineman Tate Ratledge and tight end Brock Bowers underwent TightRope surgery to return later in the season. Robinson will look to return in time for the start of Georgia’s fall camp. His injury will be something to watch later this summer.

Robinson reportedly suffered his injury on Georgia’s practice on Tuesday, which was the same day that edge rusher Amaris Williams suffered a serious knee injury. Williams is expected to miss the entire 2026 season. Robinson will be missed while he is out. He played a critical role in Georgia’s 2025 SEC championship win over Alabama.

Maybe we need to rethink Bloody Tuesdays? Or maybe we need to look for nearby electric stations like they have in San Francisco.

Praying for a speedy recovery. Very speedy.

Getting Back Up on the Horse

Bad news is, the gymnastics and equestrian programs have been eliminated from their national competitions.

Good news, Diamond Dawgs got a much needed dub against a quality Arkansas team on the road.

Dawgs take it in Fayetteville, 5-3.

Let’s take the series today and make sure we identify a game 3 starter while we’re at it, Wes!

The Ladies Net the Longhorns, 4-2

Texas has got to be sick of losing to Georgia by now, no?

Here’s the details:

The top-ranked and fourth-seeded Georgia women’s tennis team (18-4, 12-3 SEC) defeated No. 8 Texas (17-7, 11-4 SEC) 4-2 on Friday in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at the Headington Family Tennis Center, snapping a three-match skid against the Longhorns.

Go Dawgs!

You’ll Be Smurfing Soon

It’s a family tradition, apparently. First, Jonas and Jarvis Hates join the Hoop Dawgs staff and now Smurf Millender’s brother has joined the team, too.

And we also signed the center from Senegal who stands at 6’11ā€.

But wait, there’s more!

The number 7 SG in the portal, he averaged 14 ppg at the State Penn last year. He started his career as freshman at Tennessee before heading to State College.. Nice to know the kid might finish his career somewhere decent for a change.

Golf Pairings Can Make for Strange Bedfellows

I think I’d like to be a caddy just to overhear some of the conversations that would arise from these Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl golf outing pairings.

I think we are using the term “Legend” here liberally. Kirby Smart, as it pertains to the football world, is a legend. But to attach that to Freeze, Fishfry, Roof, and Chantastic?

I’ll leave my thoughts about Smart’s pairing to myself so as to not turn this into a Playpen Post, but I will say this is your Friday, April 17th, reminder that Auburn sucks.

G-Day: Staying or Going?

The annual G-Day game is tomorrow, so this serves as a quick reminder that kickoff is at 1 pm. It’ll be clear, hot, and a beautiful day to be in Athens…which, honestly, is just about any day.

It will also be broadcast on ESPN+, so there’s that.

Quick poll…anyone going to head to the game tomorrow?

Go ‘Dawgs.
