Musical Palate Cleanser: All Quiet on Second Down?

For those of us at the game this past Saturday (and it came through forcefully on TV), the bone-shaking clip of “Remains” from the film “All Quiet on the Western Front” was meant to fire up a fired-up crowd on second down. Trouble was, it was played a lot, sparking what I can only imagine was a mammoth amount of email complaints and negative social media chatter. So much so, that Alan Thomas, UGA Athletic’s Senior Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Strategy went on 960 The Fan to address the issue.

(tl;dr: probably will hear less of it moving forward)

While Musical Palate Cleansers usually post a link to the music being discussed, I shall spare you from listening to it this morning.*

It reminded me of one of my favorite Munson lines, way back in 1996 vs Texas Tech in the rain. The “Macarena” was assaulting the nation’s eardrums. The new sound system installed in Sanford for that summer’s Olympic soccer was given a Macarena workout after what seemed like Every.Dadgum.Timeout.

I had my little headphones on with my radio listening to ol’ Larry, when he commented, “I can’t believe they’re playing that STUPID song AGAIN!”

I don’t recall hearing it much after that game, if ever. Thanks, Larry!

What do you prefer? Piped in hype or a Redcoat assist on big downs? Discuss

Did you hear about this?

“Our fans are the heartbeat of Teal Nation, and we’re always looking for ways to elevate their game day experience,” Miller said. “With the CCU Kickoff Meal Deal, we’re excited to offer free concessions this fall as a way to say thank you for the energy, passion and support they bring to Brooks Stadium every game.”

Ticket-purchasing patrons visiting the concession stands will be able to acquire four items per concession stand visit from a selection of hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and fountain drinks. There is no limit to the number of in-game visits, but fans must scan each trip through the line with the soon-to-be-launched Coastal Carolina Athletics App.

Outside of a coke or a bag of peanuts, I don’t think I’ve graced the concession stands much in Sanford, ever. Most of my dining and drinking takes place outside of the stadium, if I’m being honest, or I haven’t had the patience to wait in a line for anything with a game going on.

Do you do much in-game shopping…and would a “free eats” be more of an incentive to purchase a ticket if you’d recently stopped?
