Week Ten Mumme Poll – Snubbing the CFP

Hand to God, I totally forgot about posting the result of Week 9 last week. Apologies for that, though most of you saw Alabama and A&M as the eventual SECCG matchup, so there’s that.

This week’s bonus question is trying to think about which fan base will be crying the hardest on Tuesday night when the first CFP 12 are announced.

Vote today! MASH HERE

I could’ve scored here, but I didn’t want to. Nah-nah-nah!

Go Dawgs!

Week Nine Mumme Poll – At Least We Didn’t Have a Slow Start Yesterday

You can’t have slow starts if you’re not playing, I guess, so nothing to be infuriated about here this morning except maybe to see Alabama squeak out another one against Cackalacky and for Texas to pull out a come-from-behind miracle in Starkvegas (note: Texas now has two overtime wins against SEC teams who have one combined conference win).

Hopefully everyone’s blood pressure recovered this week with the bye week.

Vote today (or tomorrow): MASH HERE

Polls close Monday at midnight.

Live by the Portal, Die by the Portal – Week 8 Mumme Poll Results

Screw you, Carson Beck! I keed, I keed…but seriously, screw you, Mario Cristobal!

Dropping from the poll: UNLV (23), Texas (23), Utah (21), USC (18), Memphis (15)

Let’s just say no one here was impressed with a double overtime victory in Lexington, Texass. Lincoln Riley keeps doing Lincoln Riley things, and Memphis saw the glass slipper fall off at the hands of an interim head coach (Chris Mortenson’s son) and a fiesty UAB team. Utah lost the holy war, and Dopey Dan finally tasted defeat in Las Vegas. Sad.

Imagine if you could take Iowa’s defense and merge it with an offense with a pulse? Could Ferentz come to Athens and help us make a super team? Tulane is getting hot just as rumors and wishes are circulating for Sumrall to come to the Plains or possibly Hogtown.

How LSU hangs on here, that’s beyond me. Anyway, looks like they’re ready to get back on track with a drone show in Baton Rouge:

Maybe Kelly can land in Chapel Hill next year with a fresh start and a new accent?

It could happen, per our poll, the majority (70+%) of you seeing Freeze as the next to get the axe, followed in a close 2nd and 3rd by Stoops and Kelly.

Week 8 Mumme Poll – Fire Everybody

People are getting the axe, which means it’s Jimmy Sexton season for renegotiating contracts. Georgia popped back into the Top 5 in the national polls, but let’s see where our resident Refugees place them in this week’s Mumme Poll.

But first, here’s this. People wonder what the two of them were discussing after the game.

Kiffin was probably asking him about how to supermax his contract in Oxford to stay out of Hogtown, if you ask me.

Also, did you know that Hal Mumme is still coaching?

Looks like he should be on a painting in a chapel somwhere.

MASH HERE

Voting ends tomorrow at noon.

Mumme Poll – Week 7, Plus Mid-Season Grades on the Team

Here’s the new poll, based on your voting.

Falling out of the poll this week: Arizona State (23), Illinois (19), Michigan (18)

So how did we Refugees rate the team at the midpoint of the season?

Quarterback – Solid B – 90.9% of you rated the QB room a B. I guess I could’ve asked for context, but given most of the banter here, I’d say most of us are happy with Stockton’s play (haven’t seen people ranting for Pug to start over him), but would like to see more in the passing game especially with extending the field. It’s hard to argue with the Rabun County Superman, though, as he’s definitely the leader of the offense and doesn’t hesitate to put the team on his back, when needed.

Running Backs – Solid B – 83.3% – Definitely nice to see depth in the RB room again. Between Frazier, Bowens, and McRae, all the makings for a Manball revival are there at RBU agian.

Offensive Line – C+ – A little over half of you rated the OL a C, and around 30% rated it a B, so I’ll go with C+. The unit has started to come to gel more in recent weeks, but considering we saw the sixth offensive line configuration in six games on the Plains, they are doing a workman-like job. Getting all together, for four quarters and sticking together (and staying healthy) can move this group into the B category sooner than later.

Receiving Room – B- – Majority vote here was a B, but I think similar to the QB rating, we’d like to see more of a downfield game and more touches by the tight ends and Noah Thomas. Stretching the field and seeing these five star TEs becoming receiving weapons would be a nice touch for the second half of the season.

Defensive Line – C – Do I need to elaborate on this one? The group does a good job stuffing the run and clogging the interior, but the lack of a major backfield disruptor is keeping the group bogged down from creating havoc like we saw in 2021 and 2022.

Linebackers – B – Solid group, tackling is way improved, but same as the defensive line, we’re not seeing enough backfield stops and sacks for this group to be in the a category. Though they did save our tails Saturday, no?

Secondary – C- – I’d argue that if the two above did their jobs a touch better, this group would look better, as well. Youth and some very visible miscues seems to make this unit the redheaded stepchild of the Georgia defense.

Special Teams – A – This is a no doubter. Quick question – aside from Saturday, when’s the last time you saw Woodring miss a field goal? Or when Thorson booted a poor punt? And our coverage units are definitely on the mother this year.

Tune in next week for the next Mumme Poll…I’ll make sure to include coaches as part of next week’s ratings!

Week 6 Mumme Poll Results – Step Away From the Twin, Carson

Week 6 reveals we have a new number one.

Also receiving votes: Auburn, Mississippi State, TCU, Florida State, all with 4 votes each. I could’ve put Auburn in as a 25 tied with these four, but I’m not ranking Auburn in top 25 of anything good.

Dropping out: Texas (11), Penn State (14), Florida State (16), Mississippi State (20)

Regarding the bonus question – which undefeated teams are most likely to appear in the national championship game:

Miami – 77%

Ohio State – 70%

Oregon – 40%

Ole Miss – 5%

Texas A&M – 4%

Oklahoma – 5%

Can Miami keep it going? How couldn’t they? They have a Charmin soft schedule for the rest of the season, get the ACC Championship against Tech or Virginia, and should get past those…but…but…growing rumor in South Beach is that Beck is back with the Cavinder twin…unleash the interceptions!

Week 6 Mumme Poll – Deep in the Fart of Texas Edition

The AP poll decided to drop State Penn and Texass completely out of the poll this week, being that neither have beaten a P4 team to date. The Coaches, on the other hand, felt Franklin and Sarkisian still have potential. Doesn’t matter, because we all know the only poll that matters.

MASH HERE

Is Texas poised to be the next Alabama? Yes. Alabama-Birmingham, perhaps.

Voting closes tomorrow at noon. Bonus question – which currently undefeated teams do you see most likely being in the National Championship game?

Mumme Poll Week 5 – Brian, James, and Lincoln Walk Into a Bar

Here’s the results from Week 5.

Also receiving votes: Louisville, USC, BYU

Dropping out of the poll: USC (19), TCU (22), Syracuse (24), Memphis (25), Houston (25)

Well, I can’t throw too much snark at Kelly, Riley, or Franklin, as Smart just laid his usual egg against Alabama, but it’s safe to say we all called it here that Penn State was vastly overrated. Despite a furious comeback at the end against the Illini, Riley has now been once again relegated to just a great West Coast recruiter, and to make matters worse for Brian Kelly, Nussmeier is now out for the year, or at least those were the initial rumors that Kelly is dispelling. Regardless, he is injured, and that ain’t helping the Bayou Bengals.

Look at Virginia! The Senator would be proud.

Regarding the SECCG poll (will Georgia make the SECCG)

  1. Probably not, but stranger things have happened – 52%
  2. I’m Thinking It’s Likely – 40%
  3. Confident No – 8%
  4. Confident Yes – 4%

Contrary to the AP poll, where Georgia plummeted 7 spots behind Alabama (of course) and Penn State only dropped five, I’d say there’s a happy balance between the Mumme and the “ball knowers” Poll. Like many of you, I can’t call us a Top 5 or Top 10 team…do we have the potential to be? Yes. My Yorkie also has the potential to be a Pit Bull…but I’d have to see it actually bite more than it barks. I remain hopeful, yet comfortably Munson at the same time.

Until next week!
