Something’s Gotta Give

Break the Bama curse, or lose the home win streak. If not Alabama, there are some other suitors coming to town looking to break it.

It’s Thursday…how are you feeling? Will Alabama break the streak, or do we keep it rolling?

  1. I have no idea. Personally I’m sick of being Bama’s bitch, streak or no. I’ll be sorely disappointed if UGA shits the bed Saturday night.

  2. Welcome to coffee talk, question for the day is, are LED bracelets more or less gimmicky than black jerseys??? Talk amongst yourselves….

    • They’re the same amount of gimmicky. But I’ll remain open minded that it’ll turn out cool until it doesn’t.

    • Why do we need to cover if we’re blitzing everyone?

Come on man! Don’t you understand standard defensive blog poster commentary?

You just send everyone after the qb and it works because well you know?

There are only three keys to defensive football!!

      Blitz
      Play man
      Adjust

As for offense, any play that doesn’t result in a 30+ yard gain is a really bad call.

Seriously though, I do hate it when a team has two really good wideouts. Makes things tough.

Hopefully, Will has been working some OT these last two weeks.

The key to this game for me is whether we can rtdb and not give up explosives. They can run up and down between the 20’s and kick fgs but don’t give up the big plays down the field. Make them dink and dunk it or even run it a bit and take advantage of a young qb when the field is shorter.

    • You may not know who covers them but Smart, Schumann, Williams, Robinson and Thacker do.

  3. No clue. With Florida in the 90’s I always felt like we were gonna get our ass kicked. The Bama schneid feels different for some reason. Can’t explain it.

    • Since 2008, when has this been an even match up?

I’d say maybe three times. The natty in Indy, last year and the 2023 seccg.

      They were better in:

      2008
      2012
      2015
      2018 twice
      2020
      2021 seccg

Often by a lot. I think this is the 4th even match up. The last time we were better was 2007 and we went into OT. The only times I think we really way under performed was 2008 and the first half of last year. For the most part, we haven’t been what I would call intimidated or cursed. They all haven’t resembled 2008 or 2024 (1st half). Had they I’d think the two decade florida curse would be applicable. I’d say there are more times that we played above ourselves vs bama than shit the bed:

2002, 2018 (twice) and on defense all game and on offense for the last 10 minutes in the natty in Indy.

Our record hasn’t been what we’d like vs bammer over my lifetime, but the reality is that:

They’ve had the much better football team over that period

      and

We’ve given them our best shots with a few notable exceptions.

These rosters are close. The team that is tougher is going to win.

      • Yep, sadly other than the Rain Bowl and ’97, we were never really in the games against Florida in the ’90s, most of them were over before they began…. Only game we’ve had against Bama like that was 2015….

      • Thought Dawgs were better in 2017 natty. 2018 SECC was even. Otherwise I agree.

  4. Would that Tennessee team beat bama? I think quite possibly yes so I like us in a close one. We really don’t know much about this bama team. Tons of talent, likely re-energized and feeling this is a must win game. But we’ve seen a collection of 5* doesn’t beat a TEAM. I can handle any outcome but us getting blown out.

  5. Let me be very clear: UGA does not have a Bama problem or curse. What we did have was a Nick Saban problem, just like everyone else in the SEC. Damn, the guy had a lopsided winning record against everyone in the SEC including Bama! He was 4-1 vs Bama while at LSU. All that mish mash about a “Bama problem” is crap.

    20-2 vs Arkansas
    18-2 vs Tennessee
    21-1 vs Miss St
    19-2 vs Ole Miss
    13-6 vs LSU
    14-8 vs Auburn
    10-2 vs Texas A&M
    10-4 vs Florida
    10-3 vs UGA
    9-0 vs Kentucky
    5-0 vs Vandy
    4-0 vs Mizzou
    4-1 vs USCe
    4-1 Alabama (coach at LSU)

Look at the records against the SEC as a head coach. The hand wringing has to stop. The Dark Lord is gone and there is a youngling in his place who has struggled to win on the road in hostile environments; Deboer is like 25-4 on the road. He lost at Vanderbilt for crying out loud! I don’t give good got dam how good anyone thinks Vanderbilt may be, that was an Alabama team getting beat on the road by a 0500 team.
Are they good? Yep. Are they great? Nope. Right now they’re just another SEC team on the schedule NOT coached by Nick Saban. Stop the hand wringing on the apron. Nick Saban ain’t running out that tunnel leading the 2012 Tide and Eddie Lacy. This team is beatable. Playing at night ‘tween the Hedges” is a nightmare for any team, and DeBoer has never experienced anything like it.

    • Sorry. I was a bit excited and mistyped DeBoers road record. He is 2-4 the last two years at Alabama.

      • Players will be able to try that in the 4-ball if their partner is in play. No way will they do it in the foursomes/alternate shot or the singles.

The course can be ferocious, but the one time I played it I thought TPC Sawgrass was way more intimidating.

        • I can’t even imagine. I struggle mightily hacking around the local munis. Playing a PGA course from the tips? Uh-uh.

          • I didn’t play either from close to the tips. That sign on the 1st tee of the Black ain’t lying. I have a picture at that sign.

The Stadium course is visually intimidating, and the greens are downright scary.

  6. I don’t get reducing pregame analysis down to, “The opponent has So and So and Such and Such playing for them!!!”
Damn, doesn’t Georgia have excellent athletes and coaches as well? Alabama is certainly a worthy opponent and has a good chance of winning but its wide receivers aren’t the greatest in history, either.
In the Fall of 2015 UGA Fandom was ready to sell their spouses and children to hire Kirby Smart, and Smart has justified that desire. Let’s show some confidence in our guy.
I am picking Georgia to win (of course I always pick Georgia to win.)

  7. I’m not sure I would call it a “curse”. We did win a pretty important game a couple of years ago. But, no, we haven’t had much success against Bama for the last decade. But who has??

I think the pressure is on them more than us. If they lose this game, they would have to run the rest of their schedule and not lose another game in order to get into the playoffs. Does anyone really think ol’e “Katlyn” Deboer can be counted on to do just that?? I sure as hell don’t.

I have us winning this game. I don’t think they can stop our run. I also think our corners will play better (they can’t play worse that they did against UT). Williams ain’t all that. I don’t think he is even the best WR on the team if I’m honest.

  8. Tide, may your knife chip and shater! Sorry, I was watching Dune 1/2 on my new TV last night.

  9. We are at home and have the best coach in college football.
That’s enough to get us the win. Go Dawgs.

  10. It’s in Athens, at night, coming off a bye, and everyone is amped up. That makes it perfectly set up for them to be up 28 – 0 at the half, and then win 48 – 12.

    Or…

    Dawgs by fifty.
