Well, we have another little stadium enhancement (gimmick?) that will be unveiled on Saturday in Athens.
Fans who attend this weekend’s game will be provided an LED bracelet that will light up at the beginning of the fourth quarter when Georgia does its tradition of ‘light up Sanford’, according to Alan Thomas, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Marketing & Revenue Strategy at UGA, who provided this info on 960 The Ref on Tuesday.
“Fireworks are ready, and we’re going to work on something else this week that will tie back into the lights when the lights go out and some music things tied to it, so it should be fun,” he said. “So get there, be very accepting of what you’re going to be handed when you walk in that door because you will be part of the show.”
Georgia first introduced their LED lights in the stadium against Notre Dame back in 2019. Fans started using their phone flashlights at the start of the fourth quarter to participate in the Georgia tradition, and now they will get to contribute in a different way this weekend.
“Part of the show”. I certainly get the lights, fireworks, piped in music are all enhancements tied to the experience, but much of that was tied to Smart’s efforts to wow recruits when they came to Athens.
If you’re going to be at the game, how do you feel about the bracelets? Is it enhancing the gameday experience, or is it just another step away from traditional football experiences?
I went to a Dawgs game and a Taylor Swift concert broke out…
But seriously, if it enhances the experience for the crowd and the prospects like it, I’m all for it
I miss the old days when the football team and the marching band entertained the crowd. And bourbon was cheap and Poss’ ice was plentiful.
For younger kids, this is a way to allow them to participate without risking breaking a parent’s phone. For others, they can do this instead of use a little of their phone battery.
It’s not like Krypton is going away.
I think it’s a good idea.
Yes, things are going to change, but us older guys like a little nostalgia now and then. Let us have that.
Amen brother!
The krypton celebration takes place between quarters. There is no football on the field. Folks standing waving their lit phones do not distract you from watching any action. If it bothers you it is a great opportunity to take your restroom break.
McEars would have sold the bracelets instead of giving them away. Progress.
I’ll use it along with cell phone light.
This comment made me snort out loud!!
Sadly I believe he would have. Of course for the reserve fund. He and Adams tried their best to ruin tailgating and fun. My only fond memories of Adams was booing him at home games.
It will be easier for those with no phone to participate. When we first started doing it I brought a flashlight for the little boy who sat next to me to use when we lit up the night. It will be a good addition I think.
Is the fan experience, better facilities, shorter lines or led bracelets and made for rave tv fireworks, light up Sanford seemed to be fan originated thing, which is more than cool, maybe, waycool, what Ms. Debby did for another fan was part of the fan experience, can these led bracelets be used for all UGA football games or just this fan experience Saturday, should CKS ask the student body/fans to bring it Saturday night, they will, hell, they would be creative with lit necklaces, beads, bracelets, and beerz….GO DAWGS!!
Exactly. Remember when the UGAA tried to create the red “I’m Georgia ” towel? Of course you don’t. It failed miserably because it wasn’t organic.
Did I hear black jerseys? 😉😆
I’m a pretty old school get off my lawn type fella and I’m not bothered by this.
If it was this OR the rave music, I’d be all for it. But since it’s in addition to, along with fire works, unicycle performer, and giants on stilts, I’ll pass.
“I went to a rave and a football game broke out.”
Any insight as to which recruits will be attending? Gotta think the 16-18 year olds will think all of this is really cool. I’ll be watching the football game. Go DAWGS!!
They say pretty much every 5 star considering Georgia in the 2026-7 class is going to be in Athens.
Showtime! My kids are going to eat this up.
All I ask of those who attend is to be as loud as you can for as long as you can. That is all. See you for the Texas game.
Doesn’t bother me as long as it doesn’t slow my entry to the game trying to pass the damn things out.
I’m still baffled by the lack of WiFi in the stadium. I don’t want it for using the Internet, but rather to save my phone battery and to be able to communicate with others more easily when needed. Tired of worrying about my phone draining because the Verizon network is overloaded. Give me free WiFi in the stadium.
At the last of our NC game in SOFI stadium WIFI at the stadium was as good as at my house. It certainly can be done. Probably didn’t hurt the some companies like Facebook, Google and others operated named sections. Working WIFI is today a reasonable request inside the stadium.
Seriously, they can bring out the supplemental mobile cell sites for PGA Tour events, but we can’t rent one or two for gameday???
Enhanced Lights? Sure, why not? Didn’t they also mention “Enhanced Music”? If it doesn’t include the Redcoats, forget it.
I am hoping for an enhanced O-line and D backfield more than anything else
If we’re kicking their ass by the 4th quarter, I’ll wear a miner’s hat if they ask me to!
