They’re Baaaaack…to Off-Season Greatness, Once Again

How many iterations of this are we going to see each and every year until the end of eternity as long as Texass has the deep pockets and heaviest bankroll in the SEC?

Respect? They enter the conference in 2024 and declare that they will run the conference, then losing to Georgia not once, but twice. In 2025, they couldn’t get out of their own way at times and Archduke oscillated between horrible and great, at times. Again, they visited Georgia, predicted to shock the world, just to get Kirb Stomped in Sanford and limp into the Cheez-Its bowl.

To their credit, at least they went an played the bowl game, and won it, beating a B1G team in the process.

But I believe it was off-season last year where some sports pundit asked the question: is Texas the new Alabama?

The answer is no. Alabama isn’t even Alabama. Funny how NIL can’t buy you everything, amirite?

  1. I caught a whole lot of crap from my best friend, a rabid Dawg, for just kinda sorta pulling for the handbags over Ohio State in the natty years ago (he could not pull for Florida under any circumstance, and was shocked that I would even consider it.) For me, it was an interesting self-study in just how calculated my hate can be towards other programs. I figured the slight joy I felt watching an OSU get humiliated outweighed the nausea of Florida tasting success. YMMV.

This Texas thing, however, has reminded me why I hate the non-SEC media darlings so much. Like Notre Dame and OSU, who for decades got undeserved tongue-baths from the fawning media, the thought of Texas getting pantsed in front of the nation is pleasurable to me.

  2. Those of us on this blog who do or have lived in Texas have known and suffered the insufferable Longhorn summer bleating of “We’re Back!” that is usually extinguished by the time the State Fair wraps up. Like the penguins flocking to San Luis Cappaccino, Texas fans all believe THIS is the year every preseason.

  3. I’ll say again…until/if he ever “proves it”:
Steve Sarkisian, in 11 full seasons as a Head Coach has lost 2 games or less in a season ONCE. Sark is not who the talking heads think that he is.

For comparison’s sake – Kirby Smart in 10 seasons as a Head Coach has lost 2 games or less in a season 7 times.

  4. i don’t disagree about muschamp but i also don’t think last year’s D was the problemo.

  5. Wait, I thought they have been getting the SEC respect they deserved: almost none.

Sat nea= a mob of them in Athens this year. One couple was nice, the rest of [heir crew of about 10? Hilarious in their assumption they would just roll us. Then, that they would blow us out in the 2d half. The early 4th TD deflated them a bit, but the recovered onside kick and subsequent soul crushing TD had them crying in their beer as they saddled up and headed out.

A more pretentious group of douchebags with no reason to be so smug is what they are. They should go back to the Big 12, nobody in the SEC gives a rat’s ass about them,

  6. It is not that I have ever “pulled for” or “rooted for” any other team in the SEC. Far and away is the thought of ever committing such an act. In such cases, I really don’t give two shits; I will say that I would “rather” the SEC team win. But in the case of Texass….FTMF
