Kirby Smart had one of the best recruiting months in history, the Gumps have landed four five star recruits while Saban has gotten active in recruiting again, and the trees at Toomer’s Corner are now just poisoning themselves.
Yes, they’re throwing it all away so they can solidify the number one pick in next year’s recruiting class. Or something like that, right?

Historical if awburn doesn’t get a significant number of kids from the state of Georgia 2-3 years later they don’t have a good season. The portal might mitigate some of it going forward.
They will still get some, but Kirby has pretty much shut that pipeline down.

Everyone forgets that Auburn is sandwiched between 2 recruiting powers. Very few kids from Alabama and Georgia dream of playing for Auburn … especially now.
Auburn’s best teams were littered with Georgia kids post-Kemp. Now they get the leftovers.
I really do think there’s something to what Tony (?) said yesterday; word on the street here in Columbus is Auburn boosters are pissed about all the time Sleaze is spending on the golf course as evidenced by his posting of his handicap on a public site. He’s playing a shitload of golf rather than working on running a program & recruiting. Only a dumbass redneck like Hugh who doesn’t give a rip would make his multiple rounds public. Me thinks he’s a dead man walking.
It’s a brilliant strategy. He knows the average lifespan (coachspan?) of the HC at Awburn is around 2 years. And as ee said above, he’s surrounded by better programs that are out-recruiting him. If I were him, I’d be playing golf too and dreaming of the day I get my walking papers and that sweet, sweet buyout check.
