Tuesday Gator Love

For your viewing enjoyment, a flashback to the 1997 WLOCP, and what was a rare occurrence for back then: a Georgia win.

It’s hard to believe there was a time when beating Florida and Tennessee were near impossibilities, let alone doing both in the same season. Whatever hell loop we were on in the 1990s, I’m certainly glad that Richt came along to exorcise us from it, and Smart to start returning the favor to both programs. I think we can all agree that both the Orange programs deserve nothing but the worst, and I for one have plenty of popcorn ready to keep watching it happen.

    • I still remember that game like it was yesterday. Devastating BS call. That was the longest damn drive back to Athens ever.

  1. 1997 was glorious. I had been leaving Jacksonville or Athens in the 3rd quarter or halftime for too long. We were in the upper deck chanting “Go for 2!” after Gary scored that last TD.

It’s really too bad that team spit the bit a week(?) later against Auburn at home.

  2. That Florida run was the worst. Even now I can stand anything except a Florida loss–ruins my year.

  3. Somebody remind Kirby that tipped ball INTs don’t count (according to him).

  4. First time I ever went to WLOCP, what a great feeling that was!!! UGA fans were chanting Spurrriiiierrrrrrr late in second half. It was awesome to hear that while simultaneously seeing the Fla side of the stadium rapidly emptying. FTMF indeed sir!!!

  5. The TD pass was caught right in front of me. I still can’t find the timeout being called.

  6. I remember seeing Robert Edwards turn the corner and tip toe down the sideline into the end zone. At that moment I realized Georgia was finally gonna beat spurrier.

Goff lost the 93 game deciding to have Florida kick off again after a penalty right before half. Georgia fumbled the 2nd kickoff, FU scores a TD before half and FU wins. Goff was a horrible in game coach.
