The Fine Line Between Admonish and Admission

To be fair, I’ve never understood why a team beats a higher ranked team, and fans start to chorally chant “overrated, overrated”. Typical coach speak in these times says “that was a heck of a football team we just beat tonight. Quality win for our guys and our program”.

Not at Tech. Nah. Instead, one of their guys held on to a souvenir, video’d it, and added “they(re) ass”. Coach 30 used it in one of his weekly shade videos:

So either it’s a signature win for the program, what with beating a top 10 team to start the year and what have you based on their social media chirping, or you’re admitting to what most of us saw Saturday: Florida State was a lousy football team.

I already said it in yesterday’s post, but the Nerds essentially said it for themselves in this video: it means nothing. Maybe that’s what passes for culture in Atlanta, I don’t know.

If it happened in Kirby’s locker room though, you better believe…it’s going to be your ass.

  1. Wouldn’t it be funny as hell if Dell McGee and Georgia State knocked Tek off their high horse?

    • I picked Georgia State to cover the spread. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I could see a huge letdown by the insects after that win. It’s rare that they get to celebrate beating a higher ranked team.

      • My son is 7 and is a huge football/ sports fan. I have taken him to 3-4 Georgia games and 1 Braves game, UGA baseball, UGA Soccer, UGA Women’s basketball. He wanted to go to a game somewhere else so I bought tickets for the Ga State v. Tech game this Saturday after confirming that it would not interfere with the Georgia game. This is a long winded way to say that I am a good Georgia fan who hopes he gets to see some of the wind knocked out of Tech’s sails this Saturday at 8 PM.

      • Free shoes should be a pissed off at those who pasted that top 10 ranking on them or are you telling us that a 60 point loss in your last game has no bearing on your future rankingness…not to mention, no qb of signficance to enhance such a ranking….GO DAWGS!!

  2. “We should have got your mama out the portal. She would have put some touch on them balls.”

    • I’m confused as to why people are being so hard on DJU. He didn’t choke on Saturday. He performed just like he has performed for the last several years. It’s not like he is some dynamic playmaker that all of a sudden had a bad game. He is a mediocre QB that had a mediocre game. He completed 70% of his passes (that went about 2 yards in the air) and did not throw a pick nor did he throw a TD. The fact that the Seminoles thought he would be anything other than what he has always been what is head scratching.

      • Because it’s always easy to focus on the QB. He didn’t give the game away, though he wasn’t very good either. But, no, FSU didn’t lose because of him.

        • He has never been very good nor very bad. He had a typical DJU game. Probably isn’t going to lose it for you. Definitely not going to win it for you. The fact that FSU thought he would come in as a savior shows how desperate they are at the position.

  3. In fairness, if you lose to Yech, you almost certainly were overrated.

    • They were overrated last year. They are REALLY overrated this year this year. I loved JP’s description of the FSU defense “looking like 11 Brenton Cox imitators”. Now that there is funny!

  4. coach 30 never disappoints…”…touch on these balls.”

DJ is slowly playing his way out of the canadian football league

    • I still laugh at the Brock Bowers quote, “He’s wide open, like a colonoscopy!”
