TCoB – Marshall preview

No, not the Terry College of Business. BTO brings us today’s theme … takin’ care of business.

We made it after 8 long months between the game in New Orleans and today’s opener in the Classic City. I’m looking forward to drinking a cold Classic City Lager (or 2), walking through the Arch and North Campus, entering the west end zone to pat the Uga statue, cheering as the Redcoats form the Arch and seeing the Junkyard Dawgs unleashed.

Let’s get to the preview.

When Georgia has the ball

I’m going to have my eye on this guy for most of the game when the starters are in. Highly talented and athletic, Greene played through injury for much of the season until he wasn’t healthy enough anymore. As the season wore on, was tackle play the result of injuries or talent? Looking back to 2023, I would say injury. If Marshall edge players are running g around him, I’ll change my tune, but before his injury, some were saying he could have left last year.

I’ve said multiple times this offense is going to be only as good as the guys up front make it. The line can only be as good as the left tackle can hold up on his own.

When Marshall has the ball

Big Baby came in highly rated and sat out what was going to be his first big year as a result of 2 broken tibias. With the number of times Hall has been in front of the media, Kirby clearly sees him as a leader on this defense. If Hall can be a complement to Christen Miller, we may have the defensive linemen to clog the middle and push the interior of the pocket.

Run defense improvement starts in the middle and works its way outward. 2 really good DTs with quality depth would be a great place to start.

What will happen

I’m assuming Kirby and the staff have put an emphasis on a fast start today. I also assume there will be no early wrinkles in an attempt to get that start on either side of the ball.

Execution, execution, execution.

Dawgs win easily but don’t cover and go under.

Georgia 41, Marshall 10

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. This used to be the kind of team that I would think has great potential this season, which I do, but by next year everyone better look out. Unfortunately, NIL has rendered that kind of thinking irrelevant. Who knows who we’ll have next season from this roster. So it’s all hands on deck beginning this afternoon. Tons of talent all over the place but man are they young pups for the most part. No matter how this year turns out, I’m forever grateful that CKS has provided the players & coaching that puts us in the National Title mix each season.

  2. If Georgia builds a safe lead, I expect ‘nilla with Kirby choosing opportunities to put the FG team to the test instead of pressing on down the field for a meaningless 7. If he wins by three scores, Kirby will be happy..
Of course, we all want to see a crushing defense and see the twos and threes early.
What I DON”T want to see ever again is a vs Nicholls State type of fiasco but that crap happens every so often, even to the best teams.

  3. Unfortunately our Dawgs like to play with their food. As per usual we will start slow on offense as Bobo sharpens his crayons. I will be the most surprised ole fart if we just blow them out early.

    • This is so true. Would be really great if Kirby has found the formula with this team to get them in the mindset of dominance early and often.

  4. Dawgs break the hearts of degenerate gamblers by giving up a late score to not cover, and still not hit the over.

    45-7

  5. I’d take the under. Just want clean mistake free football, solid line play, sure handed WRs, no turnovers and a D that owns 3rd down when they’re on the field. I’d love to see this team take control early but as the comment started, I’ll go with established trends until proven otherwise. Take care of the fundamentals and the scoreboard will reflect it.
