Here’s an intriguing list…Kirby Smart and Mark Stoops (for the moment) are the two elder SEC coaches…yet the hottest commodity out there is Lane Kiffin, who was fired by USC?
It’s a different world out there that requires a different head coaching skill set, and Lane Kiffin has evolved back into a top-flight coach thanks to the portal and NIL. He’s a great offensive mind who still carries the Saban way with him, despite the changing landscape of college football. He now could have his pick of the litter if he wants it, with openings at LSU, Florida, and what looks to be soon Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, or Penn State.
If that’s the case, which other coach would likely be in line for a reboot who could make it with the new rules? Florida, I think you know you only have one move left here, especially since Kiffin would be better off pursuing the job in Baton Rouge.

Agent Muschamp, do your thing.
How in the world has Boom avoided a burst blood vessel all these years?
You would probably be very pissed off too if force to wear that shirt everyday for years. It took until coach Boom MF returned and worked his magic at Georgia for me to understand. Then I looked at the carnage he left in his wake at FU and USCe to understand it was agent Muschamp at his finest. I really miss Coach Muschamp. Our defense misses him even more. DGD
At some point people are going to have to get patient and realize that we’re inhabiting a brand new world.
The job is getting harder at every level and if you just love football, and have the chance, why wouldn’t you coach in the nfl? Pay is higher. You get an offseason. Personnel is someone else’s problem.
I don’t understand why anyone thinks that burning and churning hc’s is going to result in long-term success.
“Screw building, just catch the flash in the pan!” USA, 1995 or so-present
Look no further than Indiana for why every fanbase says if that shitty football program can win now we sure can. With the right coach of course. There has to be a limit to this insanity just when it’s reached apparently no time soon.
At some point, these ads at the Universities need to adopt the nfl model & stop these big & stupid buyouts
Well, in the NFL, it is actually the owner’s money that they have to use to pay the buyouts; its only in college where the ADs and Presidents are using other people’s money where we have these huge buyouts….
The NFL has a salary cap. Coaches make less than half what major college coaches do. I seriously doubt the incoming CFB 20 million spending cap stops the escalating player or coaching salaries . Who’s going to enforce the proposed cap.
Jimmy Sexton is on line one with the appropriate response to your query….GO DAWGS!!
I wonder if a part of it is hiring a coach for the wrong reasons, especially in this new era. There are a lot of HCs who were hired because they are incredible OCs or DCs. But they the insist on retaining play-calling duties and don’t have time to focus on the bigger picture. Then they don’t have the same success in their new job and everyone loses their minds.
Kirby figured this out quite a while ago. Sun Belt Billy refused and look where he is now. Sark is still refusing and his team ain’t the hot shit that the pundits said it would be. ADs may need to look for guys that can manage a team rather than dial up a double-reverse-fake screen pass.
“Lane Kiffin has evolved back into a top-flight coach thanks to the portal and NIL.” This sucks. Good for Lane though.
Yeah, and I’m not too sure about the “back”. When was he a top flight coach before?
Correction: has evolved back into a hot commodity. True enough, I can’t point to where he’s achieved an elite level of head coaching yet.
Reckon Kiffin’s Krimson Korner is gonna be Kiffin’s KellyGreen Korner here soon. I don’t envy the hernia he’ll be getting lugging around money bags. I do like that he’s relevant enough to make his rivalry with Kirby interesting and he owns up to the losses and tries to do something about it – unlike losers that constantly blame refs and injuries. We might be pouring stiffies and watching the defining rivalry in the sport over the next few years.
I think Lane’s got to move but at year end. He can be comfortable at Ole Miss but never legendary. With a chance Texas comes open he doesn’t need to rush a decision and let Sexton play all his cards. Florida, LSU, Texas…PSU not in play. Texas wins in the end if available given the resources and recruiting footprint. I’d guess Florida is last.
It is pretty wild that UF people truly believe that they have one of the best, if not the best, job that is currently open even after Kelly’s ouster. UF hasn’t consistently been much of anything since Corch’s second natty there and that was nearly two decades ago. The worst thing that could have happened to UF in this 2025/26 coaching carousel is for the LSU job to open up. If the Texas job becomes open for any reason, UF’s job is easily the least attractive of those three.
Florida has historically been mid tier, except for a ~15 year run with Spurrier and Corch. Otherwise, they have always been mid.
Russ,
Of course you’re correct. For others perhaps new here don’t attempt to use reason and real world facts with any FU fan. Pig mud wrestling has a better potential for a good outcome.
I think that is being kind to history.
Lane would be nuts to leave Oxford.
