The Diamond Dawgs season ends with a pitching collapse in the bottom of the 9th, giving up 4 hits runs off two homers. Naturally, folks are critical of Johnson’s approach to “gorilla ball” over solid pitching, yadda yadda, I blame Bobo.
Hey, Wes, you could’ve done worse:
Lord. Regionals are stressful.
Methinks jp not watching is the actual jinx. 😉
I tuned in Saturday night after a pack of Classic City Lagers and reminded myself that I’m a curse. Maybe it’s just basketball!
Wes Johnson doesn’t get it!!
The regional was their entire season in miniature. Mashed an over matched opponent to start, no hitting in game 2, no pitching in game 3. From 29-2 to finishing 14-15 including 1-3 in the postseason. Feels like a great season just fizzled into nothing. They really haven’t played well since rolling into Austin at 8-1 in the league. Not sure what happened that weekend but something definitely changed. Very disappointing ending.
That was a tense game. I know it’s easy to second guess the coach from the sofa, but why do you put in a reliever who only throws fastballs when facing their three best fastball hitters? Baffling.
This.^
Then have them try to paint the corners into full counts. Bound to happen.
WTF did Johnson pull the guy that had shut OSU down for 2 2/3 innings? He puts in dinger who throws 5 straight balls then grooves one that landed on the bypass.
UGA baseball is similar to Bobos offenses – beats the hell out of bad teams, chokes a lot in close games.
Wrong time of year to have runners LOB, with one or none outs, UGA baseball vs LH pitching was a bad sitiuation most of the season…GO DAWGS!!
This. Radtke was rolling. So was Quinn. I’d like to know what Wes was thinking.
Sucks. Maybe the team should quit acting like hotdog, meathead, redneck, showboats and focus more on playing solid fundamental ball. So aggravating!
I don’t like it either, but I give you rope if you back it up.
You don’t back it up and then you end up looking ridiculous.
In the end it just makes teams play harder to beat you.
I think Kirby would say:
Let your bats do the talking.
Ole Dokes hit it on the head. I would think Wes Johnson would be more old school with his time in the pros. Watching our teams antics was disturbing. Shit like that comes back to bite you in the ass. And guess what? It did.
