Vanderbilt, what the hell?
Yep, Jared Curtis is playing, and, yes, Vanderbilt was trailing Delaware at halftime. This ain’t the 2025 version of the Commodores, and that Homecoming game coming up might be a “Yar, She Blows” endeavor for Curtis and Company.
In case you decided to go for a hike yesterday and missed the slate of great games, here’s a short version of some Ho Hums and some insight into others.
The Ho Hums – They Won, As Expected
Ole Miss 41, Charlotte 9
South Carolina 45, Towson 9 – Of note, Sellers threw for under 100 yards and an INT, and Carolina had two punt returns for a touchdown.
Florida 52, Campbell 3 – Over 500 yards offense with two punt returns TDs.
Auburn 43, Southern Miss 8 – Byrum Brown had 300 total yards offense and two scores
The More Interesting
Alabama 45, Kentucky 17
This was a tale of two halves and Will Stein demonstrating that he’s a young coach and making some bonehead decisions. This was a competitive game, until it suddenly wasn’t. Alabama’s defense looked pretty stout.
Utah 43, Arkansas 10
Arkansas had a white out yesterday too. They’d prefer to white out the result. Generally looked incompetent on both sides of the ball and Kirby should appropriately get pissed at our team of Arkansas makes next Saturday even remotely close.
Missouri 38, Kansas 21
Nothing like using 150 year old propaganda to get Missouri pissed off. It was a tight first half with special teams miscues by Missouri, but Austin Simmons looks to be the kind of QB that can be a problem when we play them. And we know how he looked a couple of years ago as a younger version of himself. This one has me worried.
Michigan 17, Oklahoma 10
This was ugly. It’s hard to gauge Oklahoma’s defense, as Michigan is fairly putrid on offense…but not as bad as Oklahoma. Mateer looked lost and Oklahoma couldn’t generate an offensive rhythm to save their lives. We might have a tough time moving the sticks against Oklahoma, but until to see how they score more than Western Kentucky did against our ones. However, we know how we struggle with mobile QBs.
Tennessee 45, NATS 24
Tech got the Temu version of Mendoza, Tennessee averaged nearly 7 yards per carry, and Mark Richt Field was embarrassingly orange last night. I’m no fan of Tennessee, but if it had to happen to anyone, might as well be Tech. They are missing Buster Faulkner, big time.
The line i saw had us as 21.5 over Arkansas.
Believe we take them by 50

Ryan Day finds a new way to lose by going back to a missed FG wide left when it shouldn’t have mattered. Dear lord the longhorns are going to be even more insufferable and the “legend” of Manning will be promoted by Disney ad nauseum. Arch was absolutely terrible for 3 quarters. Completely unable to even pull the trigger on wide open receivers across the middle but that was tOSU’s problem…Texas kept having wide open receivers open over the middle and when Arch finally pulled his head out of his ass he found them.
Brent Key…go back under the rock you crawled out from under. That faux tough guy act is such weak sauce. Your team is as soft as your little torn sleeve hoodie. On second thought…please stay. Whipping your ass is great for us.
OU..didn’t! Just hope we don’t get ahead of ourselves when they stumble into town while we’re thinking about bama.
“Texas kept having wide open receivers open over the middle” Yep, Arch was consistently missing open WRs by 5 yards or more.
Herbstreit and Davis were awful. Heard NFL washout/tOSU OC Arthur Smith’s name more times last night than all 3 years he was HC for the Falcons.

Drinkwitz seemed genuinely offended that anyone would try to ‘out-crude’ him.
Sark and Day both made decisions in the 1st half that cost them. With the way the OSU defense was playing, kick a field goal rather than going for it (no matter what the analytics say). 3 points > 0. That reverse Sark called on his 4th down leading to the TD before the half was the stuff of getting tarmaced if that game had been anywhere but Austin.
Archduke is still overrated. Smothers is a good running back.
Hitting a duck hooked field goal is what Buckeye kickers do under pressure. Otherwise, the story is how is Sark going to survive this.
Said differently, other than Jeremiah Smith, neither of those teams scare me at this point.
I was really, really unimpressed with how both Sark and Arch handled the win. It’s clear neither are accustomed to winning games like that and I just thought to myself “all glory is fleeting”. You’re supposed to win games like that, Texass. At least that’s what all the media tells us
Sark was a complete douche. He had a chance to make a statement for his program and elected to blow Holly Rowe off.

Growing up in Georgia I had no idea how heated the Kansas and Missouri animus can be, and I am talking about the States, not just UM and KU. When I was 25 my Father’s company transferred him to Kansas City, Missouri. On visits I got exposed to how many people on both sides of the border still harbored bad feeling from the slave state versus free state war. In the suburban KC areas my folks and their friends lived I didn’t really see it as a lot of those folks were transplants with no family histories going back to the 1850s and 1860s but getting to know those on both sides of the border whose families did I was made aware of the feelings towards the other.
Shit, when I was a kid growing up in DeKalb County the businesses in Atlanta celebrated the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. I remember Richs and Davison having stars and bars bunting and portraits of Lee and Davis adoring the shelves. I rember seeing Klan rallies downtown when my family would go shopping or tomthe movies. White folk would use “Yankee” as a slur, but I do not remember an attitude of hate that I observed in Kansas City in the 1979 through 1984 time frame.

I thought Arch did OK…his receivers either fumbled or dropped everything he hit them with in the first half..He had two touchdowns dropped.
TXs very first play was a fumble by a wide-out.. The turnovers were the problem…and the wooden hands.
As someone else mentioned..those Austin blow-hards will be especially obnoxious now.
As much as I enjoyed anOSU losing..I loathe the shorthorns winning.
