First look at Florida

On Saturday afternoon, Georgia and Florida renew acquaintances in Jacksonville in the WLOCP. Florida has fired Sun Belt Billy while Georgia continues to head toward a CFP berth. The Gators look to Saturday as an opportunity to salvage their season, and the Dawgs look to continue an era of dominance over our main rival. Let’s get to the first look.

Series record

Georgia leads the series 56-44-2 and enjoys a 4 game winning streak.

Last meeting

Georgia turnovers keep the game close as the Dawgs dominate the game statistically. A late interception leading to a Dwight Phillips touchdown results in double digit margin of victory. In the meantime, all of the Handbags use DJ Lagway’s injury as the excuse for the loss as badly as the Bammers with Metchie & Williams.

Gambling degenerate facts

Georgia is a 7.5 point favorite with a point total of 50.5. The Dawgs are a -290 favorite on the money line.

Interesting statistic: 22.4 – Florida scoring per game

The Gators sit at 15th in the SEC in scoring. They have only broken 30 points in their opening game against Long Island. 3 of their 4 losses this season are by double digits. This stat is the reason Napier won’t be on the sidelines on Saturday afternoon.

Early outlook

For Florida to have a chance, they need to be able to sustain drives and keep their side of the stadium in the game. Their defense will need to play their best game of the season to keep the score low and win in the 4th quarter. If they can’t do those things, the Dawgs will win the game assuming the Dawgs do t beat themselves with turnovers and special teams.

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. I’ll be looking to see if they score more than 30. Interesting stat. Thanks for the preview.

    • Yeah, I just hope the defense decides to play in the first half. Maybe don’t line up 10 yards off the ball, especially in 3rd and 3. Just don’t make Lagway look like a Heisman candidate.

But then, I’ve never been in the arena.

  2. Maybe I’m being complacent but I just don’t see us losing this game. If Florida pulls the upset, would it be the most shocking thing ever? No, but as long as we get off the bus we should win by at least ten points.

  3. “I think I’d start with tackling,” Smart said. “I think, at the end of the day, that’s what defense is about. Good defenses have few missed tackles. When you look at the two of our lesser performances, there were a lot of missed tackles. The first thing you start with is that. You’ve got to tackle well. That starts with being in position to make the tackle, not being out of position.”

If we spent the Bye focusing on tackling and trusting our guys to play Man Coverage (especially with Kirby’s quotes post Ole Miss), it should be enjoyable. If we spent the Bye looking to scheme Gagway into a career day, then I probably break my flat screen over my knee, beat my Pixel to pieces with a hammer to stop all the texts, pour my bottle of Glory Glory (yes, I a Creature Comforts schill) down the drain and swear off football forever. Until the second drive of the game and repeat until we still win.

    • I read that about tackling. While I agree with Kirby that tackling is premium, I hope that doesn’t mean more “let them catch it and then make a tackle”. I hope we press the receivers and disrupt the patterns and make the QB think about it a bit.

      • The last contest’s “I Blame Bobo” moment was CMB needs to teach those boys to tackle.
Kirby said (nutshell) “We need to tackle”
It’s called “tackle” football in certain circles.
If we don’t “tackle” the fucking gators will score.
I hate the fucking gators. I don’t want them to score.

        • I would love to see Georgia be the team that stops their current record streak of not being shut out. It means a great deal to their fans. Yeah this ain’t that defense just win and we’ll be happy.

  4. Dawgs break their will and make ’em quit. The are the easiest 7.5 points I’ve laid this season. Go DAWGS!!

  5. After taking the first look at gator football my analysis hasn’t changed
    # FTMF…….Upon further review add the mule they rode in too.

  6. Chris Doering, in his role as completely unbiased sports media talking head, thinks that the interim staff are going to “remove the governor on the offense” and that the Gators are going to win huge. No surprise there, but still…

      • I really enjoy their show. Doering has been fair regarding FU mostly because he wanted Napier gone. He and Ben are one of the best on that network. Watching Doering occasionally with Peter Burns I’ve learned he has no problem accepting his mistakes when proven wrong. He can be a funny guy not taking himself too seriously. I really listen to talking heads he and Ben are worth the listen.

When Ben was a player he often stopped by our tailgate for food post game. At that time we had a large setup in front of the tennis enter. He came friends with a buddy’s 8 year old son who idolized him. Ben kept him supplied in jerseys even after going pro.

My wife who now needs a wheelchair to attend games. While in LA after the TCU beat down we’re standing in an elevator line trying to get out. When the elevator opens I see Ben standing front center of a full elevator. We lock eyes he turns around to the VIPs and says make room for my friends. He hadn’t seen me since our tailgate days. Total class guy no ego.

        • Rarely listen to talking heads. Some day I’ll learn to proof read my comments. Clearly not today. Of course my errors probably make reading them more enjoyable in a bless his heart kinda way. Or I know he at least he has reading comprehension if not deep diving would have liked him decades ago.

    • Actually, I don’t mind Doering. Since he’s a Gator, I wouldn’t expect anything less than that from him. But I’ve never heard him make excuses for the Gators getting beat. Hopefully, he gets to explain why the Gators lost so badly this Saturday night.

      • Try as I may, I don’t hate hearing Doering on the SiriusXM. Guy knows ball and lays it out there. And like you said, he craps on UF when they deserve it. Similar to Jacob Hester and Bobby Carpenter who are my favorites on SiriusXM (and Ben Hartsock, Roddy Jones, and Dusty Dvoracek).

  7. Really hate FU, always want them to lose. It’s my #1 most despised team, slightly ahead of Bama. I just hope the defense shows something, anything, at this point. Never thought a Kirby D would look this poorly coached. The absolutely passive approach is hard to comprehend.

  8. My prediction is that our defense will look a lot better than they did against Ole Miss, because the officiating can’t be any worse than it was that day and Kirby has been coachin’ ‘em up for 2 weeks to get ready for the turds and the second half of the season. If our offense plays up to its capability, then we roll. If not, we still win, but it will be closer.

  9. I hope Kirby and Williams have been working with the DBs the last two weeks to… TURN… AND… LOOK… AT… THE… BALL when in coverage.

  10. It sure sounds like Kirby was dialed in on the problems: tackling, eye discipline, QB pressure. They also had 2 weeks to work all the safeties and see who can play best. Guessing that makes a difference. 31-20 Dawgs.
