In other words, only half your schedule is competitive enough to require mental and physical preparation. Sounds like a B1G joke, if you ask me.
Maybe Kirby’s got a point…the SECCG is a big, big deal.

Here’s the problem. The 9 game SEC schedule was supposedly done to appease the B1G for “fairness”. As that lie gets exposed and we continue to get beat up in conference while the other guys cruise 2 teams every year untested into the playoffs the whole “parity” argument will rear its ugly head in one of two ways…or likely both. First, playoff expansion naturally to get more B1G vs SEC matchups. The second will be to destroy CFP when Bezos / Prime offers billion$ to realign all of college football. A collective bargaining agreement, professional college football league and streaming only broadcasts are coming a lot sooner than most will believe. The money, politicians and lawsuits are already lining up that way.
Sankey is pretty good, but he got “gamed” into 9 conference games by the B1G. Tenderize all our teams for the playoffs so they don’t have to play reasonably healthy rosters. They know they are a group of 4 group of 4 teams and the rest are BCS level.
If Downs had transferred FROM the B1G to the SEC, you might look at his comment as sour grapes. The fact that he is a CURRENT B1G player with no axe to grind SHOULD carry some serious weight. Just the honest opinion of a dude who has competed at the highest level in both arenas. I haven’t seen how the B1G is spinning this yet.
