Well, not everything was bad across the OLine last weekend.
And while we’re on accolades, the Georgia quarterback who couldn’t throw vertically, was only a running threat, yadda yadda…he racked up some praise.
Meanwhile, Manning is crapping his pants, Lagway is handing out turnovers like it’s Halloween candy, and so forth.
Man what a difference a weekend can make, no?
We had a bunch of people who thought Kirby wasted a scholarship on Drew. Apparently, some draft people are saying he could be the #1 draft-eligible center if he decided to make himself available.
It’s almost as if Kirby might actually know what hes doing.
That’s crazy talk…
If I’m crazy, I blame my lingering PGSD (Post-Goff Stress Disorder).
Knee-jerk reaction to the last name.
He also comes from a family of football. Football is their whole life. From his grand-dad George to his dad Mike. Might not be the most talented, but dang sure knows football and the work ethic you MUST have to succeed.
Damm it Bobo’s. Congratulations to father and son!
I remember the concern last season when Bobo was getting playing time. Now he’s another success story. Player development is real as is players effort often determines their outcomes. It’s why Kirby values effort and desire over recruiting stars.
I swear I’ve been told Searels can’t develop players.
When stuff like this happens, there has to be some begrudging credit given to the OL coach. I don’t say that as a sunshine pumper.
I have never been a Searles fan. Somedays I’m a diamond and some days I’m a stone
Eh, not sure about that. Drew wasn’t a zero star prospect. Most (including me) expected him to not play until he was a 4th year guy, but he played a little in his 3rd year and is making a run at a top 3 center prospect, which is awesome for him and UGA. But it’s only slightly above expectations, so how much credit do we have to give Searels here? 3-star guys are expected to be drafted in later rounds and that’s still likely at this point.
You said it better than me. I actually think Drew is our most consistent lineman (I thought highly of him last year in spot relief) who actually plays with an edge. I won’t say CSS doesn’t deserve some of the credit for improving Bobo (who as you say was a 3-star player). I will also say if we give credit for Bobo’s improvement as a 3 star then we really get the opportunity to question last year’s OL and the lack of development of top 100 in the nation OL talent.
I understand the rating, but the comments about him entering last year (and even when he signed) was that Kirby was throwing his buddy Mike a bone to have Hartman Fund contributors pay his college expenses. My point is that no one thought he could eventually be a real NFL prospect even as a 3 star prospect. Apparently, he is being viewed as a real prospect at this point in his career.
“It’s why Kirby values effort and desire over recruiting stars.”
AND, it’s why Kirby inspires (demands) effort and desire in 5 Stars
So apparently like we’ve got ourselves a heck of a snappah.
He’s better at QB.
100%!
The key for Gunner is the run game and it’s obvious that they’ve spent all off season figuring out ways to rtdb. Use the qb, use 5 RB’s, plug in a FB, use the wrs, use the screen game…
Forcing teams into vanilla pass defenses because of the run threat is the whole key. As long as Gunner can identify one on ones and doesn’t have to stand and go through progressions he may well continue to win awards.
If anyone forces us to play behind the chains, we could be in trouble. Especially if our dbs continue getting scorched.
One of those few teams who might have to personnel to do it comes to town next week.
If we can rtdb and play the damn ball in the air, we can make a run into January.
Going to be huge in 2 weeks.
If I’m Schumann, I tell the DBs if they get beat deep and the ball is coming their way, just tackle the SOB. Take the 15 and keep the 6 off the board. Once they get near the goal line and shrink the field, the D seems to get a lot better at pass coverage (for years now).
The biggest thing are not panicking and playing smart.
No need to grab ahold when the guy is short of the sticks on third down.
If you’re out of phase, sure, take him out and play the next down. If you’re in phase, put your hand in the way of his hands and find the damn ball.
Too many times these young guys are in position and then panic as if they aren’t.
I thought the PI that gave the hillbillies a first down on the 3rd downplay near the end was going to be the end of us (and should have been). Apparently, the football gods hate orange as much as we do.
Happy for Bobo the Younger. But is it more he looked great compared to the parade of Vol D linemen blowing by our right tackles?
No the question is this: Will Bo Hughley be the man moving forward at RT? The kid stepped up to stop the bleeding
I tend to think so
Does he not practice well? Is he nursing an injury? Is Greene a beast in practice? If he is not starting the next game, then something is going on behind the scenes that we will probably never be privy to. Kirby locks down information coming out of Butts-Mehre tighter than the mafia.
