Still not much leaking out of scrimmage notes that’s unusual, you know, the typical stuff:
- Defense is outplaying the offense
- KJ Bolden is laying the wood, as is Kyron Jones coming off his injury
- Elyiss Williams looked good, last game is was Reddell
- Lots of dropped passes
- O Line miscues
- Nothing about special teams, except a missed field goal by the second team

Of note, nothing much such be made from preseason anything. They’re usually set up to test schemes, or practice particular elements of a game, and not a complete look at a team. Guarantee you that what we’ll here next week is that the offense was shining and much improved while the defense took a step back. By the next scrimmage, it’ll be that it was World War III and everyone was playing at a high level, yet Kirby still sees lots of growth and work to do with this team. Put it on repeat, it’ll be the same way for infinity.
You’ll also see leaked images from other teams showing acrobatics and amazing plays, and not the messy slop that is fall camp. So it goes.
One thing that I am hearing is how impressive the organization of these scrimmages are, serving as practices, too. Here’s a little sneaker that came out on the socials, as well.
I know some of y’all on here are privileged enough to attend, so feel free to leave your notes and insights in the comments section.
It’s just around the corner scamps.
Defense is outplaying the offense = I doubt we’re game planning against the defense so they should be ahead a bit
Lots of dropped passes = we lost a lot of receptions so working with a new group leads to drops and our receivers have been dropping balls for decades regardless of coaching
O Line miscues = that seems worrisome unless we’re playing young guys, again and that’s part of the learning process.
Elyiss Williams looked good, last game is was Reddell = what the heyell was going on last year? Gunnar’s roommate looks better for the Saints than he did for us last season. How in the world is a QB’s roommate TE not the ultimate safety valve? I haven’t been given the route trees but multiple times Delp released clean down the seam and Gunnar worked really hard to check down instead. I just don’t know what that’s about – because I’m an idiot fan – but boy it seemed there were some opportunities missed. Early in games too, btw.
Take the last paragraph and apply it to multiple downfield targets last year and that’s the reason so many people are doubtful of Stockton (and Bobo).
I’m starting to think it’s more gunner than bobo. Branch is getting lots of hype in flowery branch for DOWNFIELD routes. Not screens.
Branch had 3 touches for 9 yards vs. the Broncos Friday.
Personally, I blame Gunner AND Bobo.
I was gonna wait till the season was near end to use this argument.
I never get to worried or even excited about anything going on this time of year. It’s nice to just have football to talk about and I mostly just allow that to be enough. It used to irk me to no end when people would go on and on about “concerns” this time of year and one particular GTP poster who thankfully never found his way over here once actually started a post right around this time of year with these words; “Concerns abound!” This was prior to the ‘22 season. That’s why I refuse to give that talk any of my attention.
But. I hated to hear Drew Bobo didnt play in the scrimmage. I know nothing other than he didnt play. I haven’t even heard rumors. Hopefully it was precautionary or just something mild. Because I have very little confidence in Toliver.
There are rumors, and just rumors mind you, that Bobo may not be ready for opening day.
I’d be fine if he skipped game 1 and used game 2 to warm up for Arkansas.
I think this may be a case of precautionary bubblewrap with Drew. They already know what they have in him.
Cortez has passed Tolliver on depth chart. We should be fine if Bobo sits out the first few games.
