Couldn’t agree more with the sentiments around the broadcast team from the Austin Peay game. I wished the Skycast version that I watched for the Clemson/LSU game had been available, but I watched the AP game on mute anyway. With a bunch of girls in the house I have little choice in the matter, so it wa what it was.

Anyway, your prayers (or nightmares) have been answered:

I’m happier because I believe I can watch it from the Skycast View, at least. If you enjoy the noise, you’ll have Rece Chris, Holly, and Kirk to prattle about during the Hillbillies tilt. Yay.

    • Agreed, I make every effort to sync our radio guys up with the TV, none of the ESPN silliness and more info about our team is given. Yeah, Scott can be yell-y at times but at least he’s excited about the same things I’m excited about. I much prefer a homer for my announcer.

    • I cannot listen to Scott Howard call a game. He is good at interviews, pregame and postgame.

  4. Who is calling this game? Please don’t tell me it’s Tessitore and Palmer. I friggin can’t stand Tessitore. Every play is a HUUUUUUGE PLAY according to him. Doesn’t matter if it’s a 1 or 50 yard run. He has to SCREAM it when it happens.

  5. I really miss guys like Keith Jackson and Uncle Verne.

    Keith Jackson’s call of the 1980 Sugar Bowl (Dawgs beat ND for the National Championship) was perfect and without bias (But you know he loved UGA).
    It’s been said that Jackson, from the red clay country of west Georgia, never forgot his roots and still had the red clay under his fingernails. He used the expression “From the red clay hills of Georgia” to describe his heritage. He never forgot it..was never puffed up with self importance or pride..He knew college football unlike some of the morons calling games now (here’s looking at you Danny K.) While he is best known for his “Whoa, Nelly!” expression, I’ll never forget his call as the Dawgs ran out of the tunnel onto the field in the Super Dome in that game…Notre Dame came out first with all of their hype and tradition and glamour..Keith appropriately introduced them as coming from the hallowed halls of The University of Notre Dame..the sons of doctors and businessmen..etc…Then the Dawgs ran onto the field and Keith hailed them with the into.. “And down from the red clay hills of Georgia come the sons of farmers and the sons of mill workers, to battle against the Fighting Irish!” (not an exact quote but close)..I still get chill bumps from that!

      • Oddly enough, Keith Jackson was considered a criminal in my house growing up. My Dad hated him with a passion because Keith loved him some Michigan Wolverines. My brothers and I still imitate the way he pronounced Michigan, which sounded like an abrupt “Mitch Again” to us I guess.

    • Video killed the radio star, technology has killed the sporting world overall…those quality announcers from yesteryear didn’t have to compete with todays got to “get it now “crowd, they actually crafted their person to be non partisan as much as possible in their presentation, whether the broadcast was UGA football or nebraska, in that day, there may have been 2/3 maybe 4 saturday college broadcasts, where announcers may have seemed professional, so to speak…todays announcers, do not exist at any fucking level of sport…the sporting world has had another announcer to retirement, Mr. Cliff Drysdale, a tennis guy, but was an early espn announcer, no matter the sport, he like others held your interest, today, not so much…GO DAWGS!!

      • I occasionally listen to a random game on SiriusXM if I’m in the car, and there are some very good local announcers out there. Sadly, not many of them are in the southeast anymore. It’s all over the top homerism, which I admit sounds strange since I loved Larry.

        I like announcers that can paint a picture so that I can “see” what’s going on while listening to the game.

        • “Tennessee playing what seems to be a 4-4…fake, and theres a touchdown, my God a touchdown, we threw it to, we threw it to Haynes, we just stopped it with 5 seconds left, my God all mighty, did you just see what he did, We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose”….

  6. Sky cast is the only way to watch a game. Announcers are pretty worthless in general. To me they add nothing positive to watching a football game. If Skycast isn’t available I usually watch with the sound off.

    probably beats watching it in the stands with all goof “Dawg” “Fans” we hear about belly-aching on every play, lol

    • My last couple of trips to Sanford, when I could afford it, were nice enough that we weren’t surrounded by jerks bitching about play, but they were also games where we were clicking and it was hard to gripe. My last was Kentucky in 2023, so needless to say most were elated with the outcome on the field.

      • We actually watched from home after my friend’s granddaughter’s 7yo futbol match. The only jerk fans were us doing Coach30 impressions (out of earshot of the invested parents and sibling cheer squads). To be honest the 2 nil loss by the Lions really didn’t seem different from a Premier League game (or the Dawgs playbook). I can neither confirm nor deny a jerk with a G on their hat said: “Why won’t Bobo run Midnight Poutine,” on a corner kick.

  8. Oh gawd…that asshat McAfee will be singing Rocky
    Top. Thinking Saban will be fair to Kirby…but nah, he’ll hype the home team. Then add Herbstreit hawking Tennessee and there’s no need to tune in early or use TV sound.

    Did anyone catch Rece Davis ranking us 9th? What did we do to piss him off?
