Not that this is surprising, but Cash Jones is declaring for the Draft.
Between Stetson Bennett, Dan Jackson, and Cash Jones, we’ve had some recent feel-good stories regarding walk-ons at Georgia, but Cash Jones might be the last we ever hear about that.
Transfer portal, NIL, roster restrictions, etc., the potential for walk-on impact and greatness is diminishing. Is this the end of a college football story that we love to hear…or will this come back once things balance out and the game is righted back to its proper spirit?
Either way, good luck Cash. DGD.
Wish him well
Make it rain, Cash.
On the broader topic, if a CBA comes into play, roster sizes are going down from the House settlement numbers. That means for all practical purposes, walk-ons won’t have spots. It also means likely means involvement in the sport at the lower levels is likely to go down as well.
I thought walk-ons were already gone for some reason? I admit I don’t dig into these details but thought I read coaches lamenting the loss of walk-ons.
Anyhoo…go get paid, Cash! And thanks for your service.
Cash had a lot of memorable plays in his career. My favorite was against Clemson when he caught a pass in the flat, stiff-armed a DB into the turf, made the corner and tight roped the sideline, then dove the last three yards into the pylon for six. DGD.
I remember his freshman G-Day game debut…20 years ago? It’s been a minute. What will Bobo do now on 3rd & short? I’ll remember Cash for the Texas game. Fails to stretch and get a yard for a needed first down, crowd groans. A few minutes later he recovers the onside kick and becomes legendary in UGA folklore.
“or will this come back once things balance out and the game is righted back to its proper spirit?”
To use one of the Senator’s favorite expressions..
“once” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that presumption.
