Dan Lanning hasn’t been having a good month. After posting one of the most borderline concerning social media stunts with a top defensive line prospect, he saw the prospect decommit and move on to greener pastures at Texas. Note the necklace.
Not so long after, Lanning got another bad bit of news on the recruiting trail, losing the Ducks top QB prospect for 2026 to *checks notes* BYU.
It’s one thing for the Big Shoe money to lose out to Big Oil money…but to BYU? Dang it, Dan. This isn’t the Alabama or Georgia way, buddy. Let’s check the 2026 recruiting rankings to see how next year is shaping up.
Quick reminder, you just don’t lose to Georgia Tech. Especially in recruiting.
Of course, it’s June, so all that could swing in a moment the opposite direction. Or worse. Either way, it’d be lovely to have Lanning back in Athens if the whole west coast thing doesn’t work out for him.

Tell me again why we ever let Texas become a member of our conference? I get that money rules everything, but I can’t think of another single upside to having them in the SEC.

It is a loss for Oregon but honestly everyone was probably working from behind here. BYU was the first school to offer Lyons (in the 8th grade.) Plus .. Ryder Lyons, a five-star quarterback prospect from Folsom High School in California, will be serving a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before beginning his college football career at BYU. He will submit his mission papers in August and will be assigned to a location within the United States or internationally. Lyons will join BYU in 2027 after his mission.
It is a little weird in this day and age that a 5-star prospect is waiting a full season to play. With QB’s it seems like they try to reclassify to the earlier class so they can start the clock on their NFL draft submission.
