Looks like Josh Brooks can put another feather in his cap for hiring quality coaches.
ATHENS, Ga. — The Bulldogs collected two U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national awards, according to an announcement Tuesday.
Caryl Smith Gilbert garnered Women’s National Coach of the Year honors and Karim Abdel Wahabwas voted Women’s National Assistant Coach of the Year.
Smith Gilbert’s honor was the first of its kind for the Bulldogs since Petros Kyprianou earned the honor in 2017. Smith Gilbert was the National Women’s Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2021 while at USC. Abdel Wahab is the first winner of the National Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year at Georgia.
The new Track and Field complex couldn’t be better timed for completion. A well deserved upgrade for an upgraded program!
Go Dawgs!
That’s nice, but who remembers this old nugget: “The only thing more boring than track is field”.
My daughter ran XC at Young Harris. I believe it is the worst spectator sport of all. You watch them run into the woods then return 15 minutes later.
That’s about right. Mine ran cross country in high school.
Track is pretty exciting especially the sprints, hurdles and relays. The 10,000 meters is a snooze fest until the last 2-3 laps.
The field events are boring … no doubt. It’s still pretty darn impressive to watch the long jump, high jump and triple jump.
I ran track and cross country in high school. I always told my parents there was no point in attending our cross country meets because all they would see was the start and the finish.
