Who’s going to be the next leader of the Hogtown Hopefuls?
Of the four, the last one I want to see in Florida is Key. Say what you will about the NATS, but he’s made them contenders and I’d hate to see Florida become competitive again. Kiffin and Franklin have yet to break through their glass ceilings, and I’m still uncertain about Drink given he’s still never put together a great offense to compliment his good defenses.
Also, many were hoping to see Freeman in jorts. Looks like it’s not happening.
I’d imagine there’s plenty of gold and Irish luck in South Bend, but Freeman isn’t trading that for hopes, jorts, and meth. Good call.
Don’t think Lane is leaving, Key and Franklin are both too stubborn and would burn out their welcomes pretty quickly, I actually think Drinkiwitz is the scariest for us – he seems to know how to get the most out of a somewhat limited roster, so giving him the keys to Florida’s recruiting, and he seems like enough of an oddball to be able to roll with it and not get it odds with the fans/boosters/admin…
Agree, would not like to see Key there. He would bring Florida back to revelance.
Would love to see the chaos of Key having to non answer his coaching future questions in the lead up to the Battle in da Benz.
I don’t see Key leaving. He’s a Tech alumni and has them cooking. And his path to the CFP is much easier at a competitive Tech than at Florida.
I don’t think Franklin returns to the SEC or B1G. He needs to go somewhere he can feast on unranked teams.
I could maybe see Lane going, but I think they make the CFP and I don’t think Florida can wait that long to hire a coach.
Of that list, I could see Drink going. I think that would be bad for us. He’s a damn good coach.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s any of these. Given their track record, they’ll end up with a retread like Gus or another G5 wonder boy.
I can see Key going, mainly because Florida can – and will – pay him more and do more for infrastructure, etc. Yeah, I know he is an alum, and yes, his path is easier in the ACC, but still, $$$, and the UF job is overall a better challenge.
The only thing I’d argue with is that turning Tech around with their limited resources and having to recruit against us is a greater challenge than turning around UF. But yeah, who the heck knows. He very well could go.
We all can agree the North Avenue Fucking Trade School football hc was leaving nerdland for a potentially better situation, with any amount of success…who says transferring to FU is a better situation, other than a nice contract, you don’t think mizzou won’t throw more at their current hc to keep him and ol mi$$ al$o to keep laner…GO DAWGS!!
Lol, this Nanduri dude has Gator fans riled for reporting Freeman spurned Florida.
Of those 4-5 hc’s, 4 already are getting top ca$h, the tuck fech hc would benefit tremendou$ly…GO DAWGS!!
Freeman’s quick no means the gator budget is limited. That rules out Kiffen. It will be Eli.
I don’t know, Kiffin’s ego, a perfect place for Hogtown. Still living off the dreams of the Spurrier and Uber era..
I’d bet the swamp donkeys go G-5 because I really don’t think any P-4 coach would be dumb enough to take that risk. They’re almost as toxic as the barners and that is painfully obvious.
Brent Key has Tech going, but against what kind of schedule and with what grade of recruits? To put it another way he’s over-achieving this year. How long will it last? I say that with full knowledge that the game will be a knock down drag out. Ugh.
Key is doing a great job. But, I think Haynes King is doing just as much to carry that team as Key is doing in building something competent. If I were an AD I would need to figure how much is King vs Key – a la Brady vs Belichick.

Agree, good thought. Dabo had two generational qbs & won natty. Nothing since. How much is Pavia at Vanderbilt & King at Tech swinging them.
I think we can also attribute a lot of Dabo’s success to his coordinators. After Venebles and Elliot left, they just weren’t the same team anymore.
I still think Jedd Fisch will wind up with that job, and I’m not sure how I feel about that…
David Pollack suggesting Jeff Brohm, I put him in the Drink category of also potentially dangerous for us….
That might be worse for us than Drink. Brohm has made a living off beating top-5 teams at Purdue and Louisville. He’s a scary good coach.
as long as it ain’t Kirby (sarcasm)
Kirby would rather slit his wrists.
I hope it is Urban Meyer so Kirby can crush his soul in JAX while Tim Teabag has to watch from his ESPN desk.
There’s now a revolving door on the coach’s office in Hogtown.
They could do worse than Gus…(hee hee..and I hope they do)..
The guy knows how to navigate the SEC and could get them a few years until the game of musical chairs is over or at least has the temp slowed.
And think of the fun when they play Auburn…and Bama.
I think they should have given Billy a couple of more years.
He had them moving ever so slowly in the right direction and now they start over again.
And Key is a good coach but as someone mentioned above, he has a generational QB that is a huge part of his success.
My wish list
Jeff Collins
Butch Jones
Willie Martinez
Todd Grathanam
Gene Chizik
As Strickland stated, they would like to get someone that has won championships. That could mean current head coaches or coordinators that have been on championship teams etc.
Pfffft. I bet they would. And people in hell would like ice water.
Send Belichick (sp) there. They deserve each other!
It’s all speculation until Jimmy Sexton decides on who HE wants at Florida
Winner, winner chicken dinner.
