So you think you can win games with nothing but transfers?
Mind you, I’m happy to have McCray, Thomas, and Branch, but building your nucleus around guys who never committed doesn’t seem to be the recipe for winning. Also not surprised to see Florida State doing Florida State things.
I wonder if Kiffin and Drink would bring the same culture to Gainesville?
Like my comments here during games, it needs to be done in moderation. Dabo’s approach doesn’t seem to work, and full-on transfer teams haven’t succeeded either. I like Kirby’s approach.
Indiana took 19 to 21 out of the portal & they are having success. Also, Vanderbilt took about 20.
Maybe it depends on evaluation of talent & fit with team.
A core of the Indiana transfers came with Cignetti from JMU so they already knew the system and culture that Cignetti was bringing. Most of them will be gone after this year. It will be interesting to see if he can keep it going without this core moves on.
I would note that in both of those situations a significant amount of the transfers came together from one school. At least that was the case for IU with last year’s team and Vandy, as well. Cignetti brought a group with him from his previous gig that already knew the schemes and Vandy brought Pavia, the TE, a WR, and the OC together from the same school.
You may be right on, but these are 2nd year numbers.
All of the guys from jmu & Pavia, etc to Vanderbilt were in the 1st year to those teams.
“Lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
Most of those teams only have 1 loss, LSU has 2, and FSU has 4 all by itself. You could easily frame it as “5 (maybe 6) of the top 7 portal schools are still in the running for their conference championship and may be playoff bound.”
60 percent of the time, it works every time.
Somehow I’ll always point out an exception as proof when it’s only what proves the rule.
