I’ve waxed poetic on this site about my fondness for the “what coulda been” Georgia football season of 1995, which featured a freshman Kirby Smart playing on defense while Mike Bobo and Hines Ward played on the other. Aside from Ward’s ability to play nearly every position on the offensive skill side of the ball, what I loved most was his borderline dirty (preferably scrappy or nasty) tendencies when it came to playing away from the ball.
Seems like Ward’s toughness is valued as part of the Georgia wide receiver room. Aside from Arian Smith’s career high five receptions in game 1, he also received one of the highest run blocking grades. Of all Bulldog players.
Then there’s this little highlight of Lovett from the Tennessee Tech game:
I love the tenacity. Another receiver that seemed to take inordinate pleasure from laying defenders on their ass is playing in the NFL right now, on the same team Ward found pro greatness.
Either way, I’m sure if a more talented, but unwilling to put in the work away from the ball, opts for another program, Kirby is unphased by the decision. Sounds like they opt for places like Auburn, and we see how that’s currently going for them, right?
And while we’re on the subject, how about a little more love for Arian Smith.
And while some receivers may opt for greener cow pastures on the Plains, let’s put another chink in the armor of the negative recruiting that Kirby doesn’t develop his receivers.
That’ll do, Ladd!
Old Sasquatch Wooten. We named him that around here because sightings of him were about as frequent. Always thought he could have been more than he was. Wooten da ball carriah!
How many opposition defenders actually bitch about being blocked/laid out by UGA football wide outs/receivers/tight ends during their monday game review..GO DAWGS!!
Who went to Auburn, I already forgot him?
I think there are a couple of Raiders defenders that are still looking for their jock straps. Both of those guys only got a fist full of air when they tried to tackle him.
