All the talk this week has been about Belichick getting the shaft on his first HOF ballot. Apparently, Deflategate and other cheating scandals still haunt the someday HOF coach, but let’s not forget in all the ballyhooing that there’s a greater injustice out there that remains unresolved.
Granted, Leach passed away, but the point remains. Erk’s one of the greatest.
I was fortunate enough to know Coach Russell when I was assistant S.I.D. at Georgia Southern during the period when he won his first two national championships. He was an exemplar of a Hall-Of-Famer, and his impact on the university, the people who played for him, and those of us who worked at the University went well beyond the football field. Many folks played roles in Georgia Southern’s remarkable growth over the past 40 years, but nobody was more responsible for elevating the University’s profile than Erk Russell. Halls of fame should not have specific criteria for induction…it’s pretty easy to recognize a worthy honoree.
Not a real Belichick fan,but 6 Super Bowl wins does seem to qualify. But no Erk in cofhof is a great injustice to him, Ga Southern and from where l stand , to UGA! Loved him then and still loved him when he left. GATA!!
Beisbol: No Dale Murphy
Football: No William Belichek
College Football: no Erk
I wouldn’t insult my urine by voiding my bladder on those Dungheaps. The Hall of Fames are marketing schemes for tools and losers that collect signatures instead understanding the price of greatness.
FTMFs
Erk was HOF worthy if he had done nothing more than being the DC at UGA.
GTPR faithful will be relieved to know this injustice no longer extends to one of their own. Yours truly was just inducted into the historic Austin, TX Onion Creek Club HoF. This rates right up there with “who gives a shit” and “no one cares” but I got my green jacket so there’s that.
Seriously, strict criteria is stupid for HoF inclusion. There should be standards and guidelines that allow for common sense voting of worthy candidates. Erk shouldn’t just be in the HoF, his statue should be out front representing CFB.
Erk might have been from Auburn, but he was a fine Kappa Sigma, and a hell of a great coach.
Why not re-name the street or plaza area in front of the cfbhof in honor of Erk??
While we’re at it re-name the dumpster behind the cfbhof in honor of Fishfry.
