The Hillbillies seem to be happy with their three permanent SEC games.
And here is where we get into the “what makes a rival” debate? The Cackalacky fans believe Georgia is a rival, whereas Kentucky and Vanderbilt (until recently) could hardly be described as a rivalry from an outsider’s perspective.
For our permanent (for at least the next four seasons, anyway) we drew two definite rivals in Auburn and Florida, and without any other context to go by, Carolina was determined based on proximity, or perhaps the former eastern conference alignment.
You think the Vowels are happy to get a break from Georgia? Should they be begging for a chance to play us again and snap the streak?
The vols are happy because Kentucky and Vanderbilt are never gonna be a consistent threat.
Don’t be surprised if Tennessee shows up on the schedule announced tonight.
If I understand it right we will see each of the other 12 sec teams every two years, home and home.
If so, I think we’ll get 6/6 on a rotating basis.
It will be interesting to see if they will lock in the dates/rotations. If they do, we won’t have to wait for these announcements to come down the pike to know who and where we’re playing well in advance.
Their draw might be the easiest schedule of all the conference. Kentucky is almost back to being the old Kentucky and Vandy will lose their 7 year QB after this season. Although Lea has built some confidence and toughness in them.
If Vandy can keep Lea, I see them becoming at worst a mid-tier SEC team every year. He’s brought in some other good talent to surround whoever they have behind center. If you believe that he is a solid talent scout (and based on him getting Pavia, I’d argue he might be), then he’ll likely be able to replace him with another solid portal QB.
As for Kentucky, who knows what they’ll do. Keep Stoops and pretend like basketball is all that matters? Can him and go cheap by looking to Div II for their next coach? Roll up the Brinks truck to a top coach? I hope the last one only because it would make Tooth Nation angry.
I think the real question is whether Lea will be able to find another treasure trove of transfers from a Group of 5 school. Tim Beck, Jerry Kill, Pavia, Stowers, etc all came from NMSU.
UGA’s rivals:
1-The Standard
2-Ourselves
3-Anybody in our way
beating rectal deposits like Florida, Auburn & Tech are just a fun part of the ride
Yes, the 3 integral ingredients to be classified as the “brown stain in mine toilet bowl”…
The Vandy is good because they got the coach and the players from new mexico st… all those dudes are leaving… they will be back to the basement unless Kell stays.
This isn’t that difficult. Uga is clearly USCs biggest rival within the SEC. They’ve played us more than anybody other than Clemson. If UGA can have their top 2 rivals, shouldn’t USC get their number 1?
No
LOL
This is the kind of hate that fuels a rivalry.
It’s a “rivalry” we don’t need
By that logic, why doesn’t Florida have LSU? They’ve played them 72 times, fourth behind Georgia (102), Auburn (84), and Kentucky (75). Drawing Kentucky kind of makes sense, but South Carolina only makes regional sense.
Who cares what South Carolina wants?
That would look nice on a t-shirt…
Augusta gets it Border Bash every year instead of 2 out of every 4
I’d rather drive 9 hours to Lexington for the ponies and bourbon than 5 to the hot fever blister that is Columbia.
lol
I will describe Columbia as “the hot fever blister” from now on.
The hot cesspool mess in Columbia is not our rival. They consider us their rival in their little cocky dreams. Early September in Columbia is as close to the gates of hell as I ever want to be.
Just remember that the annual games are only 1/3 of the conference schedule so there will be landmines across the rest for everyone. No one gets out alive.
Tennessee has fewer wins than Mississippi State since 2008. That’s when most current HS seniors were born.
They are rightfully being lumped in with the other perennial cellar-dwellers where they belong.
That’s crazy and I love it. Send some more awesome stats like that my way. I’ll use them to mock our foes as much as possible.
Also, throwing out stats in that style keeps you from coming across as an arrogant ass like a Bama fan!
