Tuesday Question

Something to chat about on a slow news day:

If you were trying to convince someone to become a Georgia football fan, which game would you have them watch that would seal the deal?

My pick, personally, would be the 2018 Rose Bowl, although there have been some others I thought were great ones, as well. To me, the Rose Bowl featured a little bit of everything – clutch special teams, a lights-out running game, selfless play across both sides of the ball, and the good-ole bad guy in Mayfield and Riley, to boot.

What would be your choice, and why? Have at it in the comments.

    • “These are my people, because they love the Dogs almost as much as I do”…1978 vs nerdfootball…GO DAWGS!!

    • whit1356 got it right. If you were there or just saw it on TV, it is something you will never forget.

      GO DAWGS

      • Thanks Hoss. There are so many great choices, but that one stands out to me. I wasn’t there, but damn sho felt it listening to Munson’ call. Iconic moment. And snatching victory from the jaws of defeat against the hated Gators made it that much sweeter. They KNEW that they had that game won, until they didn’t. Check out my profile picture to get my true feelings about those Sumbitches. FTMF’S

  2. 1978 UGA v Kentucky. If it didn’t make you a Dawg fan, at least you would have become a Munson fan. 1978 v Tech was pretty satisfying also.

    • this is a pretty good choice. The atmosphere in Athens was pretty awesome. But maybe I would go with 2019 ND, 1976 Alabama. 1976 Florida, 2022 TN, or 1978 Tech. There are a lot of games in Kirby’s championship run era, the Rose, @ND, the OSU Peach, the Indy NC. But maybe old school is the way to go.

      • I’ll see those and raise you 2013 LSU. I was there and it was indescribable.

  3. On a cold, dreary autumn Saturday,I’d take them to someone’s huntin’ land, put Munson on the pickup truck’s radio, pour a couple of whiskey drinks, and listen to the 2006 Tech game. All the angst, hate, and humor crackling through the rolled-down windows as we suffered and rejoiced along with Larry in the final 20 minutes of the broadcast.

Larry asking how many dates young Stafford could get if he walked downtown right now; Loran mentioning he was getting jostled by Happy Dicks on the sideline…so many classic radio calls that made listening to the Dawgs as much fun as seeing them oftentimes.

    • Man that’s awesome. 2021 I stole glances at my phone while sitting in the deer stand and watching a food plot as the Dawgs just took Sideshow Dan and the gators apart. My best friend, who is a gator, was over on the other side of the place doing the same thing. When we got back to the truck he said, “Y’all are just mauling us.”

  4. For a WABAC game, I may need to go 1984 Clemson when Butler kicked it 100,000 miles to complete a comeback no one saw coming. It cemented the fact I was going to UGA.

    • My first game as a student! It gives me great memories of an otherwise terrible season, where we lost at Columbia the next week (I was there), and later in the Cocktail Party, at Auburn (yep, I was there, ugh), and at home to GTU.

  5. Man! There’s too many to have a favorite. I agree with everything above. But the first national championship after 41 years has to be in there. The emotion was through the roof. Grown men crying and women too. And being there in person and watching all these Georgia fans release all the years of frustration is priceless.

  6. Richt pulling down Saban’s LSU tiger pants at Sanford in 2004.

Sanford was electric for that game…kind of like the last 10rc game in the rain.

  7. So many great games, but if we’re trying to pick one to create a GA fan it has to be against Florida, so 1980 it is for me. However, a very close second is Jan. 11, 2022. When the monkey was scraped off our backs, thrown in the gutter and a boot placed firmly on its neck. Impeccable defense, Stetson’s miraculous 4Q comeback, Brock’s superhero performance, AD’s lightning in a bottle catch, Pickens’ playing through pain, Kirby out-coaching the GOAT, a gorgeous pick-six for a natty win. This one had it all.

  8. 2022 v the vawls. Even in the pouring rain and the Dawgs in a solid lead in control of the game, the outcome known, the crowd put Sanford over 130db. To me that was Bulldawg Valhalla.
    I hate orange. FTMF.

    • There have been some loud games at Sanford, but this is one of the first games I can remember not being able to actually hear the person next to me. It was surreal to hear him trying to talk and it sounding like we were underwater.

  9. I wouldn’t pick a game, I would play Munson Highlights. If that doesn’t do it you don’t have the soul to be a football fan.

  10. The games that drew me in were the ones we weren’t supposed to win, but we got it done.

1984 Clemson- “I will name my son Kevin”

1985 Cocktail Party – revenge is ours bitches!

1986 @ Auburn between the hoses; also 1994 (tie) fuck your streak!, 1998 – Bobo ties it with :01 and then 4 OT’s, 2002- Greene to Johnson on 4th and 19

1991 Clemson – braves clinch and we beat #6 in athens

    2000 Tennessee – the drought breaker !

    Hobnail Boot!!

    2005 seccg

    2009 @ #7 tech – we run this state

2017 @ ND – hs qb and 40k dawgs fans in the house.

    The Rose Bowl Game.

Indy- stetson fucking bennett gets it done

  11. If you listen to Munson’s greatest hits on the drive in, tailgate near the stadium, hit the bookstore, watch the pre-game festivities, cheer the Dawgs to victory, ring the Chapel Bell on the way to downtown through North Campus, visit the shops, bars and restaurants downtown and not come away a Bulldawg fan for life I don’t want to know you.

  12. I think if you go to almost any home game in person the experience will probably make you a fan. It really does just mean more. That could be true at many schools (not all *cough* Tech), but it’s something special in Athens.

    • Do you need anything more than strolling through North Campus down to the lit up stadium on the night before to get all the feels? I don’t.

I am also reminded of Grizzard’s post-ND/Sugar Bowl write up in describing the reaction of a female ND student to our collective post-game insanity:

“‘If it means that much to them, I’m glad they won.’ It meant that much.”

  13. First natty for CKS over Alabama, especially the fourth quarter.

OR any of the last three beatdowns of Florida, but they have to watch it live! That shit never gets old!

  14. Georgia-Florida 1968. 51-0, Jake Scott, Bill Stanfill, I was a little kid completely overwhelmed with joy. The only other experience in my life that equals it was Christmas morning when I was four or five years old and would wake up about 3 AM (my parents had probably just gone to bed), walking into the living room and found it completely covered in presents for me and my three siblings.

  15. It is impossible to pick one

    97 Florida

    04 LSU

    07 Florida or Auburn

    13 LSU

    17 ND or Florida

    21 Natty

    22 UT
