That title’s a bit of a reach. But let’s be real, we all saw this one coming, didn’t we?
The NCAA attorneys weren’t real happy about it, opting to leave the courtroom before the Judge’s decision had been reached, to which the Judge had a nice response:
I guess the eligibility rules are dead now (or will be when Tennessee is done with them). You don’t like the outcome? Go find an alumnus judge in a backwoods state court who should be disqualified from hearing the case for being biased.
They have been dead. All you had to do is threaten them with a lawsuit and bye bye rules. NCAA is worthless, to me always have been. They ruined college football.
@ JP, ee and anyone else who wants to chime in: Did Vince pull the cork on this Genie-bottle?
“Vince Dooley was instrumental in breaking the NCAA’s monopoly on college football television rights through the landmark 1984 Supreme Court case NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma. As Georgia’s Athletic Director and head coach, he argued that the NCAA was too dominant, allowing schools to negotiate their own TV deals, which directly led to the current era of massive television revenue for conferences. “
Vince and OU were the butterfly flaps that eventually wound up into this hurricane shitstorm. There were probably unlimited possible outcomes but the idiots at the NCAA and universities ensured this outcome by burying their heads in the sand for the past 40 years while raking in cash.
Don’t blame Dooley. Blame the absolutely abysmal leadership of the NCAA which has included Adams and Morehead (not sure if Davidson was on the president’s committees or not). So much of this could have been avoided if the adults in charge had actually worked on behalf of the children instead of a shameless money grab willing to exploit everyone and anything for $$$$.
With every ruling like this, my college football fandom dies a little bit more. Makes me sad for the sport my kids are inheriting. I taught them to love the Red & Black because I grew up learning that college football was different, almost sacred, from my own dad. Now, though? I find my head and my heart in a tug of war over how much I even really care.
This^.
My lack of interest has been growing for a long time. Honestly, GTP and now us Refugees was/is the only thing that keeps me tied to the sport. My kids and their SO’s are all UGA Grads and Fans but their fandom and mine are different. Case in point: My Son bought me a tractor cap with the G for Christmas. I said “Cool! A Ray Goff special!” He said “Who?”
I guess I don’t give a shit if Chambliss retires from CFB at 35 after playing for 6 different teams. Knock yourselves out CFB. Time gets a little more precious as I get older. I’ve wasted very little on pro football, I don’t see much reason (other than this community) to waste any on this bastardized version of CFB.
HEY. WHAT ARE YOU KIDS DOING IN MY YARD!!!
When the judge already has the order against you written and ready to read at the hearing, walking out is warranted. What a sham.
Ageed, the NCAA is the biggest POS association in the country.
Even back in the day, they had different rules for different schools. Now there are no rules. They say no to something, all you have to do is attempt to sue them, then it all goes away!!
Who would want to leave a school when your paid million, get free room and board, free food, free cars etc.
He might play till he’s 35!
There’s a reason Grisham novels have featured corrupt judges in MS.
Just wait until a judge in another jurisdiction blocks him from playing or Miss St gets their own judge that says no,
