Schadenfreude

Here’s a little Monday Mastication for everyone to chew on. Try saying that one five times fast.

Today’s question is a two-parter…

The first…the question above. Which team do you enjoy beating the most? For me, it’s Tech or possibly one not listed here, Tennessee.

The second…which team do you watch out of the sheer hope that you see them lose? Again, for me, it’s Tech (I just find it funny…every time) and Alabama. Not sure why my schadenfreude is so tipped towards Alabama, could be because my wife’s ex is an insufferable Alabama fan, the recent struggles against them, or just because I got sick of hearing “Roooll Tide” at every family vacation in Panama City from 2011 forward. It was sure nice when we could be on the Gulf Coast and have an absence of that crowing when it did happen.

How about you?

  1. Florida for me. Always and forever. But I do always hope Alabama loses. It has more to do with all their “fans” that suddenly appeared over the last few years.

I have a buddy who is a lifelong Bama fan. He’s a good guy but even he truly seems to think Alabama is just destined to win every single game. They had some last minute pull it out of their ass win last year, I think it might have been in the iron bowl but I can’t remember, he sent me this picture his wife had taken of him, his son, and one of his daughters all looking at the TV as the game ended with this look of glee on their faces. One of the obnoxious things I’ve ever seen.

    • Tough call, but it has to be the Gators for me. And it all stems from that BS “timeout” that Spurrier called in ’93 that cost us the game. As for Tech, other than when we play them, I really could care less what happens to them.

      • That was supposed to be a straight up post, not a reply. My bad.

    • Exactly how I feel. I even have the same best friend/Alabama fan issue.

    • Oh and one more thing, my bama fan buddy was whining in ‘21 that when his daughter went to school after the NC all the kids that were Georgia fans were barking at her. He said if a Georgia fan can’t see how that’s worse than constantly hearing Roll Tide then they are part of the problem. I just rolled my eyes. They can be as obnoxious as they want but when they’re on the receiving end it’s bad sportsmanship and mean.

    • #1 Always FL. and it always will be FL.
#2 Always FL. and it will always be FL.

  2. Florida always and forever for the win … although beating the trade school is damn important, so those losers stay under their rocks for another year.

On the losing side, it’s the trade school. I want them to lose to the point where they decide to drop D1 football. I may even pull for Florida if they ever played them … I need to go wash my mouth out with soap for typing that.

    • Dude, if Al Qaida played Florida, I’d be up in the stands screaming “Allahu Akbar, FTMF!” There is no team I’d rather beat, and there is no team I’d rather see lose. I’d have to think about second place, but whoever it is isn’t close to UF.

  3. Alabama, Alabama, Alabama!
Growing up my dad had some co-workers who were HUGH Bama fans. On the occasion back in the early 70’s when Ga and Bama would play, dad would invite them over to watch the game. ALL I can remember was the obnoxious sound of “ROLL TIDE” every two minutes during the game. I’ve hated them ever since. My dad was a huge Ga. fan and had listen to their bullshit when we lost, which was most of the time during Bear’s tenure.
And now I have two Sister-in-laws, and a sister that pulls for them. On top of that, I have a nephew and to nieces that graduated from Alabama. AND I’m still hearing that awful gawd sound of “Roll tide”. FTFMF.

  4. I prefer the Dawgs performing to standard, then they beat everybody.

  5. Florida and Bama for me. Probably Bama the most now due to our struggles against them and the fact they are such pompous assholes.

Tech is the team I most hate to lose to, but beating them doesn’t provide the same level of pleasure as beating our other rivals.

  6. For me there is a difference between hating to lose to someone and enjoying beating them. Beating bama is the most enjoyable for me because its rare and there is some sense of real accomplishment.

The rest are varying degrees of how bad does it suck to lose to them? Tech is no. 1 on the schedule. ND is no. 1 globally.

I laugh at UF and Auburn losing to anyone about equally. Alabama has been up there since about 2008. Hopefully that will begin to fade, but other than an Iron Bowl or 2 I don’t think I’ve wanted Alabama to win since ND after the 2012 season.

I have a feeling texas may be ascendant here.

  7. nerds every day of the week and twice on sundays

    • 1-FU….#FTMF!!
2-the loveliest little cesspool on the plains…#AUBURN SUCKS!
      3-nerd football…
      4-Used to be klempzen…but, not so much…
5-anything related to the old ball sack….

  8. I love beating Florida. I hate losing to Tech. I hate-watch all of them and laugh when any of them lose.

    • Hence why I say anyone who positions themselves as an “SEC Fan” is bullshitting, because I don’t root for the conference or anyone else in it. Florida winning a national championship in basketball was nothing of pride for me, I was hoping all the way that Houston would curb stomp them. Go Dawgs and FTMF universally, regardless where their home campus may be.

  9. 1. Floriduh
    2. Steve Spurrier
    3. The Gayturds
    4. Tenn. (you’ve should’ve seen the orange Dodge Charger with Vol plates I got behind yesterday)
    5. Auburn
    6. Ga Tech (I don’t pull against them as hard as I used to b/c, well, it started to feel like picking on the slow kids at school)
    Love to watch lose: Alabama

    • “orange Dodge Charger with Vol plates”
We’ll probably see him on a YouTube video getting pitted by the police as he runs from them with a trunk full of meth. A cold Bud Light in one hand. A cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth. His mullet flopping in the wind. His mugshot with his one tooth showing along with his wife/first cousin will be shown at the end along with his list of charges (certainly to also include parole violation).

  10. Orange teams. Even this past year we got some bonus ones with clemson and Texas twice. Its good to be the king.

    • Yep, even my wife who’s not a football fan or really from SEC territory has learned this and can explain it to friends without a pause in the conversation.

  11. I savor beating Florida. I only watch any other games to see a team lose. All of the list plus 100 more I want to see them lose.

  12. 1. Florida – because it is always great to see the handbags suffer.
    2. Alabamastan – because generally it means quite a bit from a NC standpoint.
    3. Auburn, Tennesee, Tech, Texas because, fuck them!

  13. As someone echoed above, I don’t understand the whole “you have to root for the conference/S-E-C, S-E-C” mentality. As a fan, any other team from the conference winning games or a championship helps my team on rare occasions.

I tend to enjoy defeating Auburn, Ga Tech and Florida more than the others on our schedules but I would generally love it if we are 1-0 every Saturday and all of the 133 other FBS teams lose.

I do take specific pleasure in watching Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Penn State lose.

  14. Florida. Even though we apply it liberally to many teams, there’s a reason why FTMF’s started in reference to those assholes. Especially for those of us who graduated in the early 90’s.

    Fuck. Those. Mother. Fuckers.

    • Any of us who were alive and conscious in the 90’s will always hate them. FTMF for sure.

  15. Florida, probably forever. The 90″s and oughts scarred me with the despicable, jorts wearing, mullet headed, inbred, no good, lowdown, belly crawling, sewer living, swamp sucking pieces of sh#t that call themselves gator fans. Spurrier & Corch can suck it, I’ll never forgive them for their arrogance and classlessness. Only two things wrong with us beating their ass 7 of 8. It wasn’t 8 of 8 and we didn’t score at least 50 every time while shutting them out.
I hate losing to tech & Bama but I expect to always beat tech & it’s me unless we unleash on them and honestly I expect to lose to Bama at this point. They are in the heads of the Dawgs until proven otherwise.

  16. With the majority of adolescence and early 20’s coinciding with the ascent of Steven Orr Spurrier and the Florida Gators, my favorite team to beat has been and forever will be the Gators. There aren’t enough points to be scored to ever satisfy my bloodlust for them. I want Kirby to break the f’ing scoreboard every time they play. Tech is definitely my “team I hate losing to”. Those pencil necked geeks are the worst when they win. As far as sheer entertainment value is concerned when it comes to losing, nothing beats listening to Bama fans whine on Finebaum on a Monday after a loss. Tennessee fans are a close second. The whining is music to my bitter, bitter ears.

  17. In this order of who to beat…

    1) Turds (I live down here)
    2) NERDS (come close to losing to them and see how they act)
    3) Barners (remember the Cam scam! and Gus’s last words before losing to us and UCF)
    4) UTurd (come close to losing to them—I still remember the 90s)

Special Mention -Gumps. Beginning to really not like them in anything. yes…I pulled for Meetchikin in the Outback or whatever they call it now…

    Like seeing lose

    1)Gumps
    2) Turds
    3) Nerds
    4)UTurd
    5) Barners

  18. Florida and Auburn make me nauseous, and the remaining schools and fans just annoy me. Its all professional disdain now….

  19. Beating Florida is most important annually. Losing to tech hurts worse. Any day bama loses is a great day for America. Texas I expect to rise to the highest level of the hate scale much quicker than any team in SEC history.
I do take get pleasure watching tOSU lose. Their fanbase maybe the worst in all CFB.

  20. Florida for sure. As the immoral ranger Russ says fuck those motherfuckers

  21. I hate them all but it’s Florida for me by a razor thin margin. They were the traditional UGA opponent that I saw first and most often BEFORE I enrolled at UGA. My hatred of the Ditch Lizards was well developed the day I walked on campus in Athens. I learned to hate the others as well, but your first always holds a special place in your memories.

  22. Looks like I’m on the same page as most of the refugees. I’m happy when Florida loses and ecstatic when it’s to us. I don’t get too excited about Tech but it puts a smile on my face when they lose and, of course, i expect to beat them every year. I’m not down on Tide fans as some folks seem to be. What little experience I have in Tuscaloosa, their fans were nice to me. The Tide fans who make to Athens will actually talk to you unlike that unruly, nameless mob in orange. I may have a bias about the Tide. My late son in law earned three degrees from Alabama and played in the band as an undergrad.
