This is an interesting graphic.
Color me surprised that Auburn and South Carolina are spending more than Georgia and have nothing at all to show for it, except a new coach and one who could be on his way out.
Ditto for Nebraska, Michigan, and USC. What’s lost here is the individual payouts, where I’d imagine Kirby takes a more balanced approach to spread the wealth while a team like Michigan invested heavily in a QB that has people wondering why they did that.
And then there’s Oregon, Texas and tOSU. Top of the list yet no titles for two of them and Ohio State seemingly lucked into theirs and still can’t buy a decent kicker.
Indiana is lower than eleven teams that has a combined single national title, and one (LSU) that hasn’t even made the expanded CFP. Tennessee has made it once, getting hammered by the Suckeyes 42-9 and didn’t make it in last year at all.
And while Dabo preaches that he doesn’t like transfers, he is investing a lot of money into something…but what it is is beyond me. From another vantage point, consider this:

I wouldn’t believe those numbers…some of the higher reported numbers aren’t close to it, some of the lower reported numbers are actually higher. Its used as a weapon against each of them. At UGA there are only a handful of people who know the real numbers. The Athletic isn’t one of them.
That said…Oregon’s ROI simply isn’t there and Okie State has gotten a pretty hefty ROI thus far.
Indiana. The way they talk you’d think they were all eating bologna sandwiches for lunch.
Mark Cuban dumped a bunch of money into their program. I’d say it’s been well spent so far.
I would love to see how these numbers break down by class. He wants to reward retention and contribution.

Taking all of that chart with a grain o salt, those top 7 spenders have always been spenders (above board/below board) and will be top spenders no matter the results…GO DAWGS!!
I had to Google “Tillman Fertitta” as the name sounded like a character in a Carl Hiaasen novel…(and he may be a real-life one).
Nebraska, Auburn and Florida are noteworthy for spending hard and not having squat to show for it. Meanwhile Clemson and FSU, the one-time “we’re too good for the ACC” are being spent into the ground by Miami.
I thought the Aggies would be top 5.
