Man, the Pit Boss got out of Fayetteville for good reason. After the Arkansas program encouraged their fans to stripe the stadium, this is the response they’re getting from the fanbase in return:

The Athletic released an article detailing their best estimates on how much teams are spending for their football rosters. Dawgs were 19th overall (#10 in the SEC). Arkansas is dead last in the league for total roster expenditures, but for context, that still puts them ahead of most of the ACC and Big 12. Arkansas fans are a surly bunch, with many calling for the AD’s head. Their rationale is that if they can do it in baseball and basketball, why not football? Hawgs were a force in the old SWC, but have experienced very little success since entering the SEC in ’92. Houston Nutt had a decent run and Petrino had a couple of good years before the Evel Knievel thing. Otherwise hit and mostly miss. It’s a proud program and its fans tired of being a punching bag. I’ve got family in AR and they’re not happy Hawgs right now.

Tip of the iceberg? Sure, today it’s Arkansas but at some point the teams that can’t/won’t spend $100mil AND win 12 games plus playoff victories will find their fan bases reacting to being treated like wallets while watching their alma maters sell out to professional interests. Look at the first USC game this year. Plenty of excuses for the zero fan turnout but those conditions existed before and folks showed up. Streaming and gambling are the whores they are chasing. Us and the kids are bound to pack our bags eventually.

I am leery of teams like Arkansas. I was in Knoxville in 2007 and all the talk that week was how Fulmer was a goner when they lost to us.
For those that don’t recall it was 21-0 before I could find my seat in that place.
I’m not falling for their shit.
Fulmer’s 07 Vols team wasn’t anything special by any means… (Annual Richt shit the bed game… cost us a natty that year bc nobody was beating us at the end… but I digress) but this Arkansas team is bad. I’ll be upset if we don’t have our backups playing the 4th Q for the 3rd week in a row.
Only caveat to that claim about a natty is we’d have played LSU in the SECCG. That team was very good despite their two losses. Would have been interesting to see that one play out.
If this is true, why punish the players? Shitty fan base if you ask me. You’re a few games into year one of a new coach. What? You’re mad at the coaching hire? Seems there are better ways to communicate your displeasure with the athletic department besides punishing your players.
