Interesting thread from TwiX the past weekend, worthy of some comments section discussion today.
I had my immediate thoughts, then a follow up post came later with some stats:
My enrolled years at UGA were 1993-1998. Why am I not shocked that Chris McCranie didn’t make this list?
He was fearless.
No Logan Gray?
Beat me to it. The best fair catcher in the history of CFB
Woerner almost always made the first guy miss, and his first step was always forward. Saw him signing books at the UGA Red Zone a few years ago. He got up, and walked toward the back with a halting, almost limping, step. Father Time is undefeated, but iin the 1980, that guy could run like a deer.
Just remember how every return we thought Mecole would score. And he only had one!
Is it the average yardage per return with that particular guy you want on the field, someone that can field punts/punt returns or just the threat that this punter returner could take it the other way in a hurry….GO DAWGS!!
I think there’s strong correlation between the two!
Outside of Woerner, Mecole would be my choice.
Call me crazy, but punt return yards are overrated. Give me a guy with good hands and the smarts to make good decisions instead. I bet part of why Mecole only had one is that some were brought back because of block in the back penalties.
was that al. michaels on the call?
I think so, along with Techster Frank Broyles
I am surprised that Jake Scott is not on that list. He was a great punt returner.
Scott Weorner.
