Preseason Mumme Poll Results

Well, the results are in, and we know it’s from a more reliable source than the Committee, a computer, or sports writers. It comes from our unmitigated and biased hearts!

While not matching the AP or Coaches Poll, I have to say we have some eccentric beliefs, if anything else. Michigan at 15? We also clearly have a different view of Tech’s potential based on the Great 8 from the end of last season. In case you’re wondering, 52% of us believed there will be four SEC teams in the initial CFP 12, with 43% of us believing there will be three…even though we have six ranked in the top 12 here.

Guess we need those nine games and CFP expansion right now, don’t we?

Update – a small clerical error had me omitting Miami from the poll. You’ll see they came in at 10 on our collective ballots. Apologies, scamps.

  1. I think we should cut the season back to 6 games and expand the playoffs to 64, seeding primarily based on the media’s preseason rankings. That should solve all of the problems.

    • Don’t forget to add the 32 team losers bracket and the NIT for the other 64.

  2. The top 9 were my vote if I recall correctly. I cast this ballot based on who I believed had the roster to go 16-0 if everything fell the right way.

    • Same. Only difference is that I also included Miami as a 2nd ACC team. Not necessarily based on merit, but b/c they have enough talent to navigate a really soft schedule to be a one loss team by the end of the regular season.

        • I had to update it: when I saw the comment on Miami I realized I had left them off the first posting. They came in at 10 on our ballot

          • Ha! I was really wondering if Carson Beck was hated that much by the folks on this blog! Lol

  3. I don’t think there will be four SEC teams in the CFP….not because they don’t deserve to be but because the whole thing seems set up to help the BIG and hurt the SEC…it’s their way of accomplishing what couldn’t be accomplished in fair competition. In other words, I DO believe the system is rigged.

  4. Where is SkepticDawg when you need him? You fools have us running the table.

  5. I ranked only 10 teams and had the first 9 and then ASU who finished 11th here.

I think the Mumme Poll’s biggest misses will turn out to be South Cackalacky and Syracuse. Sellers is stellar, but I think the Gamecocks lost too much around him and will have four losses.

Love me some Fran Brown, but from the little I know about this year’s Orange is they lost a lot from last year and in the portal. I see them as a .500 team.
