I don’t think there’s any doubt one of the advantages the Dawgs will have in 2024 is the quality of depth across the board. I also think there’s one spot we don’t want to have to show it … quarterback.

QB1 – Carson Beck
Carson Beck waited patiently for his turn to have a chance to be Georgia QB1. His patience paid off with the 2nd most passing yards in a single season and a near miss for the 3-peat. He showed his ability to run the offense and really demonstrated the best arm to wear the G since Matthew Stafford. His patience also famously led to a nice ride with his new Lamborghini. Beck enters the 2024 season as the unquestioned leader of the Georgia offense, is one of the early betting favorites to win multiple awards, and has been named to All-American teams. While Georgia hasn’t been a QB-centric team in the Smart era, this team likely goes as far as 15 takes them.

QB2 – Gunner Stockton
I love Gunner Stockton … some of that has to do with 14, the number I wore in almost sport I ever played because Pete Rose was my favorite athlete growing up. The product from Rabun County appears to be the heir apparent and will probably get a number of opportunities to get meaningful repetitions in games where the Dawgs have things under control. As everyone knows, he isn’t afraid to run and create plays with his feet and is a good passer. As much as I love Gunner, I want him to learn and be ready to take control of the team in 2025 after Beck heads to the League.
QB3 – Jaden Rashada
I’ll admit I wasn’t sure why Smart signed Rashada from Arizona State via the transfer portal. A highly touted recruit who originally signed with the Handbags for a large NIL deal that fell through and resulted in a lawsuit filed against Sun Belt Billy. I assume Rashada is here to challenge for the 2025 starting job or to hit the portal after spring practice.
QB4 – Ryan Puglisi
I looked forward to seeing the 4-star recruit out of Connecticut at G-Day to see what we have. All we heard leading up to the end of spring practice indicates that Puglisi has a live arm. He consistently said that he was at Georgia for the long term even when Nebraska’s QB was committed. With the 4 game redshirt, I hope we get a chance to see him a couple of times this season.
What to Expect
If Beck remains healthy and plays close to his potential, we will be playing deep into January and may have another championship parade down Lumpkin Street in January. If not, we are going to have to play like we did in 2017 where the QB manages the game, protects the ball and allows the players around him and the defense to win games.
That’s my thought on the QB situation. What do you think? I look forward to your response in the comments.
