Some of us noted that the defense seemed to turn a corner as of late. The numbers here don’t lie.
The best three game stretch hit at season’s end, averaging a tick over 19%. Also peep the three lowest percentages…and to think we were a dropped pass away from beating Alabama the first time, and we’d be facing a Freshwater-less Ole Miss this weekend, instead.
Curious how this is matching up to some former defenses?

Granted, it’s the lowest since Kirby’s taken over, but at least it’s rising the last few games…least we forget the injuries and youth…could be a sign of good things to come.
I like it! Ideally our squad will burn the ships on the beach and let it rip!

The defense looked a ton better beginning with the Mississippi State game. Glad to see the stats support what we are seeing on the field. This improved D carried the day vs GT. It’s amazing what a little QB pressure from the D-line does to improve the LBs and secondary. Sadly, our O-line and QB are trending in the opposite direction. Not sure that we can beat Alabama with a banged up O-line and poor QB play. Saturday could be a very long day for the Dawgs.
Their center, 2 rbs and starting TE are out. They are injured as well. If we swapped injury reports nobody would think we could win this Saturday.
So, the team with the better backup center wins!!!
Don’t forget the long snappah!
The key to this game will be who scores the most points.
“If we score, we may win. If they never score, we’ll never lose”…GO DAWGS!!
No fare peaking at the Tony Barnhart keys to victory report. I checked it too. He’s narrowed it down to either Georgia or Alabama as the likely SEC champion.
He’s amazing.
He also predicted that Georgia or Alabama would be SECC runner up.
I’m going to change the subject. Did any of you guys notice the look on Kirby’s face after he shook Key’s hand at the end of the game last Friday? Kirby looked a bit exasperated to me.
Kirby surprised Key wasn’t looking to cry on his shoulder again.
Kirby doesn’t have time for macho-man, cutoff sweatshirt yellow jacket tough guys bullshit, nor another year of the narrative of the « post game embrace »… it is clean old fashioned hate and we run this mofo state. fuck ‘em.
I didn’t notice..but if Key was talking his macho smack, Kirby will remember.
Defense has really picked it up. I like our chances. Offense struggled against Tech for some reason but I expect them to return to their norm this week. Gunner got his Benz nerves out last weekend.
Gunner was definitely off, but I don’t think it was just nerves. There has been some speculation in some places that he has had an arm problem, but I don’t know that and am not saying that was the reason. I think the biggest thing was that Tech did some things defensively that confused him some. It also didn’t help that Bobo went down. I believe that CKS and CMB will help him this week. The defense keeping up the standard they have played to the last few games will seal the deal imo.
Maybe there was something completely different going on in Gunner’s head. What if he had heard all week how bad the Nerd defense is and went on the field a little over-confident and was to eager to start the scoring show? ..and thus wasn’t careful enough with the ball..and threw the interception. Then he began to be hesitant to throw to his primary unless he was wide open..As a result, he was too quick to give up the pocket and resort to running and of of course GT had practiced containing his runs all year..that’s why Tech lost to bad ACC teams…Key only GAS about trying to beat UGA…which is a waste of his time. He would have been a good fit at Kentucky..a clone of Stoops-id. (I’m not saying Gunner was overconfident ..just that he may have been. All’s well that ends well and it ended well for the 8th time in a row!)
Just find a way to win 4 more games this season. 4 more!
Last 3 game average…19.2…not bad at all. IF we can get 17-18 this time around vs. Alabama…
We need to score more than 20 points.
I want to believe, but I’m not exactly buying it. Granted, the defensive performance against Georgia Tech was better than I expected, but Haynes King seemed hobbled for much of that game. Against two of the better QBs/offenses we’ve played this year (Bama and Ole Miss), havoc rate has been 10% on both. All I’ve heard about Texas since we beat them is how bad their o-line was and how they haven’t helped Arch Manning all year long (I didn’t watch them play aTm, so I have no idea how they pulled off the upset).
All that is to say, I don’t exactly trust those recent numbers as a predictor of what will unfold this weekend. I’d love to be proven wrong though!
